This bakery has the kindest, most genuinely friendly staff and the most excellent chai latte I have ever had!. I am from out of town on work and had the pleasure of taking my quiche and muffin (with a complimentary cookie because I couldn't decide if I wanted a cookie or muffin) to dine in. I watched this staff meet each local (15+) by name and not only knew their orders by heart, but had them started as they saw their cars pull up! They are warm, inviting and asked questions about the locals weekend, birthday, special event and worked so seamlessly as a team to get the food and coffee to each patron QUICKLY. The ambiance is top tier with frank Sinatra playing in the background that is easily drowned out by the patrons pleasant chatter and laughter. Will absolutely be making this my go-to while in town and could not recommend enough. PS the quiche and muffin / cookie was amazing! read more

I stopped in the other day and got the best red velvet cake I have had in years. And I can not say enough about their cinnamon rolls!

Good food, great service. Actually I should say great food, because everything we had was hitting. But the service was on another level. Tra'shanna I believe was the name of the woman working the counter when we came in. She was lovely! Had the kindest words for everyone, and went above and beyond to give fantastic service. Someone came in with their sick mother on the phone, and she went through each item in the pastry case until they figured out which exact treats mom wanted. I hope they pay her what she deserves because she made an already good experience ten times better. Back to the food though. We came in for breakfast sandwiches, and on request they made one for me with just egg and cheese. It was delicious. We were trapped by that glorious pastry case as well. I got some bomb sugar cookies and the roast beef po boy. Believe me when I say that sandwich is in the top ten best I've ever had. I also tried a bite of the Sicilian tuna since my sister got that to go; very, very tasty. I can't speak on their coffee, but if you need breakfast or lunch in the Beaumont area, you can't do better than this place. read more

I've moved away from the 409 - Rao's in Old Town Will always be special to me. I always make it a point to pass through and get my frozen Kona Mocha : Starbucks can't even remake a better frozen coffee than this! It's so nostalgic with every sip, I've been drinking them since college in 2004, over 20 years now. Leaving for years and coming back home to it- the recipes never changes much (for the good!) and if they do it's always a slight upgrade. Like the empanadas have a different crust and are bigger now, with the same great filling! I love the apple empanadas- never too sweet, never topped with crazy amounts of cinnamon and sugar. You feel like you're cheating with a bakery breakfast without too much of a sugar over-load! I used to live in old town and I enjoyed the new dishes they would serve like waffles on a stick and the seasonal soups like gumbo! Another staple is their fruit tart and key lime pies. I can't compare the Dowlen Rd locations to the Old Town location. Two totally different places with the same food but different atmospheres. This location tends to keep the same employees. It's busy at times but definitely has many times of the day where you can catch the regulars or have the place to yourself, meet a client for a visit during a quiet half hour, and from my experience they keep the tables clean and floors nice. ( thought it is known that you clean your own table there!) I hope this place never goes away. It's a wonderful gem. read more

The good: drive thru worker. Very sweet and attentive. Their muffins were good. The bad: having already driven off before checking our order (should have known better) we found that one of the items was wrong, supposed to have a bacon egg and cheese croissant instead it was ham. The eggs had a very strange and unappetizing taste and texture. We ordered 4 cinnamon rolls which were very dry. The worst part of the jalapeño sausage kolache. It appeared to have been made hours ago, the sausage was shriveled, dried up, and tough. It shouldn't have been sold, period. This is probably my third time trying this location and will likely be the last. For someone who calls themselves a bakery, it's subpar and the management is obviously not doing its job when items are being sold that should have been trashed. What you sell speaks to your brand and the message isn't a good one. read more

The stars for Rao's Will fluctuate depending on what we are going for, but this morning was just average. My husband ordered the ham and cheese croissant and you have got to see the picture!! Looks just like a ham & cheese croissant except in the hands of a giant! Literally, they need to list it on their menu as The 2bite Mini Ham & Cheese Croissant! And when he ordered it, maybe the employee should say, they're about 2-3" minis. Do you want more than one? And another couple got up to ask for salt & pepper. They were told someone else must have it on their table. Ok, I love a good emoji, but I won't put the 2nd rofl one here as much as i want to! When a staff member laid a gentleman's breakfast wrap in front of him and walked away, it was hilarious to see him look down and around t the table with a question mark in a bubble above his head wondering why flatware and napkins didn't materialize as well. The experience was entertaining. The food decent. We will be back for gelato....probably tonight! (Insert FOURTH laughing emoji here). read more

One of my favorite places to coke for dessert. This is the go to place for cake. They offer such a huge variety of baked goods it so hard to choose. They are known for their sugar cookies and huge cakes. I also love their loaf breads. Super cute store w lots of drinks and desserts to choose from. Reminds me why I like "Cajtex" country. Great choice of pastries and breakfast sandwiches and actual brewed coffee with a choice of beans instead of generic watered down Starbucks espresso. Service was fast and cheerful. Old style interior which means it's been around awhile. Had to get off the I-10 a couple blocks but it was worth the detour. read more

I came in just looking for a great coffee drink, but that was just the beginning. They went all out with decorations for Mardi Gras, and apparently some left over Valentine's. The whole atmosphere felt like one of those places that locals would urge out of towners to visit out of charm. read more

I'm done with this place. In my travels across I-10 I've made a point of frequenting this bakery but the level of service has plummeted to the point where it's simply no longer worth my time, effort or money. To be one of two people in line with two people working and to be ignored for nearly five minutes until it became clear I was leaving is just ridiculous. read more

Another satisfied family! So glad we took a little detour from I-10 for a light lunch and delicious desserts! It was hard to break our gaze at the dessert options when we needed lunch. Fortunately there was pizza squares, sandwiches, soups, and salad for our choosing. We were equally charmed with the decor and friendly staff. The cookies (sugar and chocolate chewy) were pretty darn good along with the petit fors. Even the pizza was worth sneaking a sample from the kids. The only compliant I have is the bathroom facilities. There is one bathroom with a skittishly awkward layout in the kitchen itself. It's a bit inconvenient if you're claustrophobic or have young children, or a crowd. This location is older and smaller than the location off I-10, be we still enjoyed it. also note the hours are different for this location, which closes at 2pm on Saturday. The other location has much longer hours for Saturday. I'd say 4.5 stars, if that were an option. read more

We used to only come for the sugar cookies but today I tried the chocolate mousse mini cake and a blueberry cream cheese muffin and they were both so moist and great! Next time we stop through I'd totally try one of the cheesecakes and one of the other muffin flavors for sure! read more

I just wanted to let someone know about my experience just now at the Rao's bakery on Calder in Beaumont. My son was the winner of the birthday cake giveaway on 101.7 this morning. He was so excited and I was excited to go pick up his cake. The radio station instructions were simply to stop by Rao's on Calder before they closed this afternoon to pick up my cake. The radio station instructions did NOT say anything about calling the radio station or calling Rao's. When I arrived I was greeted kindly and this interaction started off positive. I ordered my lunch and told her I was there to also pick up the free cake that my son had one. She hesitated as if the she had no idea what i was talking about. So the gentleman making coffee start yelling across the counter that I was wrong and should have called the radio station to order my cake. They then both started talking AT me instead of to me. I kept trying to explain what we heard on the radio announcement and even play the video of my son when we heard it..... but they dismissed me. By now, i was starting to get irritated yes. They then proceeded to the back kitchen to retrieved another woman who came out and was extremely rude to me about not calling first. She literally came out of the kitchen annoyed from the second she started speaking to me. She began speaking down to me and spoke to me as if I was mentally handicapped or five years old. I told her that this was the worst service I'd ever had. I walked out without a cake and without the coffee and food I ordered because I was so appalled at the way I was spoken to. I explained three times why I did not call the radio station, because the radio did not instruct me to. I would never employ someone who would ever speak to a customer in such a way. I was respectful the entire time until she spoke to me like a toddler. now my 10-year-old son won't get the cake he was so excited about winning this morning. I then called and spoke with the radio station and they were very apologetic. "Bshaw" (the radio host) himself told me that I was correct and all I had to do was show up and get the cake! He stated that they have NEVER made a winner call in their cake order ahead of time... Ever. He said they give these takes away every single day and this is never been an issue. The "manager" of Rao's did call me later to try and make things right, but he messed up when he tried to blame me for his employee's poor behavior. i'm not sure how I was to blame when my information was correct the entire time... He had three employees in his place of business who did not know what they were doing and when I tried to explain to them what was going on they all three ganged up on me. I will not be returning to a Rao's ever again! read more

Driving back and forth from Houston and Florida a couple times a year on family business, I've seen signs for Rao's Bakery...Oldest Bakery in SE Texas. I finally had to stop and I'm glad I did. There's an amazing selection of breads and baked goods and sandwiches and mini pizzas. And some of the best coffee. I started with a Nitro Cold Brewed coffee. I could drink it all day. I got a turkey, swiss, bacon, with pesto sauce sandwich on focaccia bread. WOW. My wife had a muffaletta. New Orleans style also on focaccia bread. We didn't think it could get any better until we had the chocolate chip cookies. With all the cakes, pies, cheese cakes and sweet breads available, we chose the cookies. And they were good! We'll stop everytime we pass thru Beaumont from now on. read more

It's not bad business in my opinion...more so, it's not business. As a descendant of Rao related families, I was embarrassed to say the least. I walked in and had a young gentleman very kindly direct me where to order. As I walked up to the point of order, there were two men in line; one was on his phone having a conversation while attempting to order which I consider to be poor manners. The second man was texting. There was a voice that stated that she would take the next customer. The second man didn't move. He continued looking at his phone. The cashier ducked around into sight and asked me what I would like. She answered my first question without any problem. When I asked her what coffee she had on drip, I wound up having to repeat myself (this would be due to the people at the register all wearing headsets instead of having someone to focus on just the front end customers). When I asked again, the cashier turned and walked away without a word after looking at me like I said something out of turn. I immediately found the manager who had been standing next to her and expressed my disgust. The manager just gave an auto-response apology which is meaningless though nice. I told her was leaving exactly because of the terrible manner in which I was received. I used to give my money to this business years ago. That will not happen again. read more

This was the first place in Beaumont where I found the glazed sugar cookies that I oh-so-love from my California childhood. This location is the closest one to my mom's house and I still stop by this one and the new one on Dowlen whenever I get the chance. The baristas are competent and all the drinks I've had there are delish. I (obviously) enjoy their glazed sugar cookies and their ginormous cinnamon rolls. I don't eat the small cakes too often... the times that I've tried those, they weren't to my liking. read more

Rao's is a Beaumont icon. The Calder location is my favorite. We just bought my daughter's cake for her 2nd birthday. It looks delicious :) One caveat, the space is small and as a result during the pandemic I wish they would enforce the mask mandate, as several customers did not wear a mask. read more

When I started working close by, I started grabbing lunch occasionally from here. Just recently tried their Spicy Giacomo poboy and I am HOOKED. It is DELICIOUS!!
