You can get whatever condiments you want, I asked for a little mayo on mine--I love it that way along with the other more traditional condiments. They have a little bit of a heavy hand with that so some might want to ask for light amount of condiments so the hot dog doesn't shoot out of the bun! So good with extra raw onions & I never get the celery salt that folks around here traditionally let the establishment put on--celery salt, hello it's salty enuf people! Glad to see people being patient and following mask protocol and social distancing and only 5 people at a time in the lobby, which provides ample room for social distancing. Ordered 4 burgers in the summer of 2022, and two large fries. My oldest son took a bite into his burger, looked down and noticed the bottom bun was green. It was covered in mold. My husband brought the burger back to show the employees. The response he got was "we've been running into this problem a lot lately" they were completely nonchalant about the entire thing and completely brushed it off like it wasn't a big deal. It takes two seconds to check the buns that they're putting on the grill. The employees aren't taking the proper steps in preparing the food properly for customers. So I had my first Rapid Ray's burgers in 1989, some buddies took me their while were were finishing up a night out. I went there for lunch a week later when my perceptions were clearer. It is an old style burger place, the burgers are small, so you can eat more, and made to order. There is only standing room, no seats, and it is popular. They started as a "food truck" in the 1950's. Their hotdogs are almost as popular as their burgers. The sides of fries and onion-rings rock too! This is how it works they take you order for burgers, you pay, and your name. When the meat is cooked they call your name, and they ask you what you want on it (onion, mustard, relish, etc), if you want other fixings you should have ordered the deluxe. They box up your bounty and give it to you. No fuss, no muss! Enjoy! Whenever I pass Saco I try to grab a burger. I send people there for the experience of how-things-used-to-be. This place was alright. Rapid Ray's is your typical old-style fast food burgers and dogs type place. Food was served fairly quickly and tasted decent. Also, the prices seemed fair. There's no indoor seating and a couple benches outside. This place reminds me a lot of Don's Lunch in Westbrook or Joe's Hot Dogs in Joliet. If I lived within walking distance, I'd come more often. But since I'm farther away, I'll likely be taking my business to other Biddeford/Saco food establishments. This place is a 1950s burger shack. Nothing fancy. Not even the burgers are that great, but they are something that I try to get a hold of when I am back in Biddeford. If you are looking for fancy burgers look elsewhere. My aunts and uncles used to drive me here when I was a little kid. We would pile in the 1968 convertible and zoom over to Rapid Rays. Just went to Rapid Ray's for the first time last night. After having moved to Biddeford about 6 months ago, I'm surprised it took me so long. I think it's mainly because I've already established a list of favorites that are within walking distance from my place. Not that across the river in Saco is far. Back to the food, I'll cut to the chase. Rapid Ray's has good simple food for good simple prices. I had a ham (as they call them) and a cheese. After waiting for the cook to ask me what I wanted on them (the works) as they came off the grill I installed myself at a nearby window sill and ate them while still steaming hot. If any of you know Harmon's in Falmouth, they have a lot in common. They use the small (6 oz?) patties, and are a local establishment without a lot of fuss (errr, no fuss at all actually.) The buns were toasted and with the works toppings of mustard, relish and onions, they came in tight, neat little packages you could bit into and polish off with out a big mess. They tasted great, were fresh and were cheap to boot. Both burgers filled me up and cost less than five dollars. Other things on the menu were more "tricked-out" versions of their burgers, fries and chocolate milk (I love that). I'll be back, and I can't wait for the summer to take a nice walk over and eat an early summer evening snack before heading over to the brew pub for a pint. I wouldn't know what the food is like. Their business model appears to be to make it as difficult as possible to get food from them. We went their (five of us) one evening to be told we couldn't eat there due to covid, okay. We attempted to order two nights later and they told us that they didn't take internet orders nor telephone orders. So to get their food, one must go there and find some other place to eat. For a burger joint, you can't get any better than Ray's! This is literally a landmark in downtown Saco, having been there for years. As mentioned in other ratings, there is no place to sit, which is a downside, and they don't have milkshakes, which seems like a major issue with a burger joint. Other than that though, you cannot get a better burger in the area! The buns are toasted, each burger is made when you order it, and the fries are crunchy and delicious. The size of the burgers is small, but so are the prices, so get a bunch! I recommend the Big One with lettuce, tomato, mayo, and ketchup, but if you want the true Ray's experience, just get it loaded. This is a double cheeseburger, and they are truly tough to beat. It takes a couple more minutes to get your food than at McDonald's, but the quality is much better and you're supporting a local business. I heart Rapid Ray's!!! Maybe it's a Maine thing, but when I am heading home and get off that amtrak train in Saco I usually go directly to Rapid Ray's where I get 2 loaded hotdogs and a choc. Alternatively I will get a loaded cheeseburger and a side of onion rings or a clam cake and a choc (that is chocolate milk in Rapid Ray's speak). It's quick, cheap, tasty, and hits the spot. I don't have any complaints about the food, but I will say that I get annoyed when I am at Rapid Ray's late at night and rowdy (read: drunken idiots) people stream out of the bars and come here. This is when I don't love Rapid Ray's -- since these drunk people tend to argue and are just assholes and I've even seen a fight or two. So I'll take my Rapid Ray's before 11pm when the food and atmosphere is great!! read more

After a night of Trivia over at Run-of-the-Mill, I was told I needed to check out Rapid Ray's. I didn't think I was that hungry, but apparently, everyone has room for Rapid Ray's. The menu? Burgers, dogs, corndogs, fries, onion rings, and chocolate milk. Chocolate milk you might ask? Oh yes, chocolate milk. My cousin, a native Mainer, explained that she never has chocolate milk except from Rapid Ray's. Duly noted. It was a chilly night, so I got hot chocolate instead. I was still satisfied. :-) I think french fries are too much a part of my diet. :-). The french fries here were delicous! The dogs are yummy as are the burgers! The cooks are a lot of fun and the service is pretty quick (Rapid Ray's, so one would certainly hope so!). Prices are cheap and great. Rapid Ray's tends to be a late night, after pub stop that is a favorite of UNE students. It's also a local fave. It is now one of mine. Perhaps I should just move to Maine and save myself all the gas I'm spending coming up here to each french fries. :-) read more

Rapid Ray's has, in my mind, only one equal: Mel's, all the way down in Tampa Bay, FL. Together, these two restaurants are the best hotdog vendors I've ever personally tried. Ray's hotdogs are simple and perfect- this is hotdog heaven for any purists out there. Upon first visit, you'll immediately see how the restaurant earned it's "rapid" moniker- your order will be filled within 30 seconds in a blur of relish, ketchup, and mustard. Served on split-top, New England style rolls, Ray's franks are steamed to perfectly cooked perfection. They also make hamburgers which are awesome, too. And this being Maine, what would an eatery be without lobster rolls on it's menu? Ray's variation is much like their hotdogs- simple, delicious, affordable, and prepared within seconds right before your eyes. My mother grew up in Maine, and ever since I was a little kid I've made the journey up there every August, at first with my family and now, over the last six years or so, with friends. No matter who I'm with or when I go, I always make at least one stop at Ray's. I highly recommend everyone else to do the same. read more

The best Burgers in Maine. I make it my priority to eat at Rapid Rays as often as possible when I visit Maine. They make the best burger I have ever had. Fresh meat, not sloppy not greasy. Ask for it "Loaded" which basically means Mustard, diced onions, relish and a tomato slice. I will go through 3 or 4 of these myself. Which isn't too hard the burgers aren't behemoth beef monstrosities like you get at Chilis or Applebees they're normal sized burgers that rely more on TASTE than weight. Rapid Rays is mostly take out, there isn't anywhere to sit, but you could always sit in your car. They also make fantastic crab cakes, hotdogs and other grill style favorites. *Ordering tip* When you go up to the window please tell them how many burgers you want 1st and when they're cooked then tell them how you want them topped. Don't just go up and ask for 7 cheese burgers with onions and relish. The correct protocol would be to ask for 7 cheese burgers or 7 hams, THEN when they're done let the preparer know how you want them done. I would suggest getting them loaded though that seems to be the famous style. Rapid Rays has been family owned and operated since the 60s or 70s, and when you go in to order you'll see all the old black and white photographs on the wall which really gives you a sense of time and how long Rapids has been an anchor in Saco Maine.
