Haven't been here in a while. Felt like having a burger, so I stopped in Thursday evening. Sat at the bar, this bartender is always friendly; tasted a few beers because I wanted a Smithwicks but they don't carry it. Disappointed because she pulled samples without 1st letting the warm beer in the tap flow, so not impressed because the beer was warm. Settled on a Stella. I love my beer cold, it was not. Ordered a mushroom, onion Swiss medium rare. They changed their fries and they were GREAT! This is why I choose Cow Bell over The Mill because the Mills fries are soggy and often just warm. The burger at Cow Bell was over cooked at medium well and the mushroom onion topping was not only Luke warm, looked and tasted like it was leftover from the previous day. I had another beer, and Allagash White; again not as cold as I think a beer should be. I've had the steak tips with veg and mashed potatoes here before and they're always good - think I'll stick with that next time. Ambiance like most bars, sports on the TVs. BBQ Burger and Buffalo Chicken salad were excellent. Traveling for a vacation found this great sports bar. Slow Thursday afternoon so we were the only ones here for about 20 min. Two other couples came in later. Steve the server and I am guessing manager was awesome. Sometimes when things are slow servers are way to friendly. The atmosphere and music were excellent, got our food quick, the burger was cooked perfectly and the BBQ sauce and bacon were delicious. The salad was fresh, tomatoes very solid and tasty. The steak and cheese was very tasty! I like most places in Maine they use red and orange peppers instead of the typical green pepper, which I think tastes much better. The sweet potato tots are the best! I've stopped by a few times just to order them. I ordered an Iced Tea, which comes unsweetened. It was ok but not great. We had just started to eat when the vacuuming started, at one point moving the chairs at our table. I asked if we were in the way and they said, oh no. You're fine. I am still traumatized thinking about the takeout salad I ordered. When I got home, it was just a patty thrown onto a rotting salad mix. The associate said they use bagged premixed salad. Really??? Did no one notice the mold on it?? I was mortified that they could feel ok about serving a "Super Salad" that looked like this one did. It was empty at 6:30pm on a nice Friday night, that was kind of different for this restaurant. The space was empty except one couple and we were seated directly next to them. Then later they seated another party back to back with us. Empty restaurant but seating people on top of eachother is uncomfortable. The soda tasted funky, our appetizer was so stale we had it send it back. The rest of the food was just mass produced Applebees type stuff. We took most of it home because it wasn't great. We came in at a time when there was only two tables, and one was leaving. The waitress failed to check up on the food and didn't even apologize at all for the lack of service. My husband and I placed an order for pick up. What should've taken 20-25 minutes wait time ended up taking over an hour to receive our food. The waitress apologized multiple times for the long wait and explained that they are currently very understaffed. Only one waitress, one bartender and two cooks on staff. Although Covid has eased up a bit you'd think it would be back to business as usual but it's becoming more and more apparent that Covid has taken a long lasting hit to some local businesses. We are compassionate folks and understand that the restaurant industry has really taken a major blow these past couple of years and now to top things off we're dealing with food shortages and inflation. While my husband waited for our order he sat at the bar and had a beer. After an hour our food came out and we took the 15 minute drive back to our camp site, the entire time praying that our food was going to at least be tasty. Thankfully our burgers were made to order. While the fries were a bit dry, the tater tots were very good. We ordered the bone-in maple bbq wings and they were delicious! Highly recommend the wings. We also ordered the peanut butter pie which was ok. We wouldn't exactly say that the burgers were the best we've ever had but they weren't entirely disappointing either. Are they worth waiting over an hour for? No.... but again keeping in mind that the restaurant is dealing with a major staff shortage perhaps once they are able to run the restaurant more efficiently the quality will pick up as well. Our order with a 10% tip as this was a pick-up order came to $71.00 quite pricey for just 2 burgers with tater tots, an order of bbq wings, kids hot dog and a small slice of peanut butter cheese cake. Again that darn inflation. After reading some previous reviews it looks like this place is a hit or miss. I'd say we fell somewhere in between. We'd be willing to give this place another shot only next time we'll most likely dine in should we run into any issues. After hearing from many people to visit this location, we finally gave it a chance. The food was decent and I was impressed by the ease of ordering over the phone. The reason why I'm rating them a 3/5 is because our order came out to over $46 and we had no idea why. Upon further investigation we realized that there were two menus with varying prices. The items we had originally ordered were actually $2-4 dollars more on this other menu. This may not seem like a big difference, but once you factor in a couple different menu items things begin to stack up. Overall we did enjoy our food and thought the service was fine, we were just unimpressed by the hidden charges. Came here during our trip to Maine. The fries were hand cut and delicious. Like the make your own burger. I got the fried chicken sandwich instead of a burger and it was crunchy and delightful. My super picky daughter loved her kids menu burger. Our other daughter got the Mac and cheese and it was pretty good. My husband got the steak tips and he said they were really good and tender. Stopped in for the first time last night to have a quick beer with my partner on Cowbell's back deck. We were pleasantly surprised at how cool the inside space was and how nice they keep the back deck. The staff was nice and the beers were affordable. Fast forward to this evening, I was looking on UberEats to have dinner delivered and decided to give Cowbell a shot. I ordered the prime rib burger, which is supposed to come with au jus on the side and horseradish spread on the burger itself. Well, it arrived at my door without any au jus on the side and I literally could not taste the horseradish spread if there was any on there. Quite disappointing- I was so excited to try this burger! Overall, I see that they have great happy hour specials and some cool events (trivia, live music, etc.). This will probably end up being a place that I drink at more than eat at. read more

Having grown up in Biddeford my whole life, it's amazing to see the amount of growth and progress it has made throughout the years. Main Street is now the home to many local businesses, and it makes me proud to call Biddeford my old stomping grounds. One of those local businesses on Main Street is Cowbell Burger Bar. Looking for a place to eat one night with a friend, we decided to try it out. When walking into Cowbell, you are presented with a rustic aesthetic with wooden walls and southern decor. There are some modern touches, such as the phone booth...which may not seem like it works, but for some reason it just does. When we walked in, we were quickly greeted by a hostess who allowed us to sit where we wanted. It was surprisingly quiet with it being around 6pm on a weeknight, so we opted for a table for two by the bar. There are various tables, including some high top tables, throughout the venue. As we walked to our table, I also quickly noticed the advertisements of events that they provide throughout the week, mostly highlighting local musicians and bands, which I appreciate. Looking at the menu, Cowbell has a great deal of options to choose from ranging from salads, to sandwiches, and obviously burgers. There is a specific section on the menu to "build your own" burger, or there are quite a few options to choose from as far as burgers they have created. Either way, you have the option of substituting beef for any other kind of protein! Grass-fed beef, turkey, chicken, salmon, etc. You can also make any burger into a lettuce-wrapped burger. I ended up ordering the bacon bleu burger in a lettuce-wrap and instead of fries, I opted for a side salad. The portion of the burger and the cook were perfect. I liked the taste of the burger, as it actually had a "charred" taste...not burnt, but it had a somewhat smokiness to it. As far as topping, they don't shy away from those either! The side salad was also large and was a perfect accompaniment to the burger. In general, I was impressed with the service, the food, and the way that Cowbell supports locals. It takes a lot for me to add a bad review or complain these days - I know everyone is trying their best, but I also feel badly for folks who waste their hard earned money trying to treat themselves and their family to a meal out, like we did this past week. Just cannot recommend this place. I've been to a lot of similar burger joints, and never been disappointed like this. The prices are really high for what you are served - portion sizes of the appetizers versus price were just outrageous. Spending $14 on "nacho fries" is the most ripped off I have ever felt in a restaurant in my life. It was a very small toaster oven size tray with a single layer of stale fries sprinkled with maybe 2 oz of shredded cheese, six tiny slivers of jalapeño, a few bacon bits, and a thimbleful of diced tomato (the few tiny bites of tomato were the best thing we had because in the entire meal it was the only thing that tasted fresh). I thought it was a joke or that I read the menu price wrong. They were gross and I can't believe when someone is spending that price for fries they just used the ends and broken bits from the end of a stale batch. The fries we got with our burgers were better - but even though these were super hot (had to let them cool a minute even) they still tasted stale on the outside. They have a good base but they just don't cook their signature fries in timely manner (I think they double cook them but wait too long in between). I could go on about the rest, but can sum up that everything else was either mediocre or just not good. Burgers and toppings were all straight out of a bottle or can, it felt like the kitchen was just a bunch of premade stuff tossed into toaster ovens. I don't mind paying these kinds of prices for a good burger and fresh food, but the portion sizes and overall stale taste of just about everything is just highway robbery at these prices. A friend and I came here last week for some apps and beers, and we both had such a great time we stayed here for like 2.5 hours! I had heard about this place from another friend, but hadn't gotten in to check it out. I'm glad I finally made it in! My friend and I took a seat at the bar, and were pleasantly surprised to see that it was karaoke night (however, no one actually ever got up to sing the entire time we were there, but the DJ played some good tunes overall). Our bartender was sweet and attentive. We ordered a few appetizers, one of which being the fried pickles, which though tasty, were not my favorite because they were bread and butter not dill, like you'd find at most places. The dipping sauce that came with them was really tasty! We got chicken tenders with a variety of sauces on the side, which was fun because we got to check out a bunch of different flavored sauces on our own. This was the highlight of the food items we tried that night. The Brussel sprouts app fell flat for me, they tasted like frozen Brussel sprouts they tossed in some spicy sauce. It was rather disappointing (I can make better Brussel sprouts that those at home). The beer selection is great here! They have so many different types of ales on tap, from IPAs to stouts to double IPAs to sours, etc. We were able to sample whichever beer we wanted and there was no limit to the amount of tasting, which was great, because there were a lot of draft beers here I hadn't tried, so I branched out and got a stout I had never had before. Turns out the keg kicked during my poor so I got the beer for free, and it was almost completely full! Bonus! Also, since we came here on a Thursday night, we were able to get "talls for smalls," which was nice. The location is in the old Bebe's Burritos in Biddeford, and there is plenty of seating within the restaurant; at the bar, at tables in the bar area, as well as tables off to the side of the bar. There are various specialty nights throughout the week (Ladies Night, Talls for Smalls/Karaoke Night, live music, etc). And they have a running electronic trivia game that you can easily log into with a smart phone and play other people in the restaurant. Overall, this place is very fun, and I will be back. I arrived 15 minutes before the rest of my party. And I sat at a table for six. Not one person stopped by to ask me if I wanted a beverage the entire time. Once the drinks order was taken, I had to ask twice to have my drink corrected. The waiter was annoyed, and very brusque. I also noticed on the bill that they charged me $8 for well vodka and $2 for a martini that was a new one for me. I ordered the stuffed avocados, an appetizer as my main meal. My food came out and then the rest of my table wasn't served for another 10 minutes. Sadly, the avocados were as firm as an apple and tasteless. Not a good buy for $13.98 . So disappointing. (1avocado split). I have to admit the pineapple, salsa and feta on top of it was the only good part . . This was my second attempt at this restaurant, as the first was also disappointing.
