Don't go here for brunch... the food was cold and service was slow. Not impressed!

This place was pretty bad. I ordered jerk chicken and she says "okay that's pretty spicy" which would have been the way I like it but it ended up being SUPER BLAND!! yuk! As was my wife's pasta . And to add insult to injury the staff was rude and they didn't validate parking. Save your money. read more

We were extremely impressed by the quality and price of Rapture's menu items. Their fried chicken thighs were generously portioned with a succulent crust, and the shrimp and grits were scrumptious! I can't tell you about the food and I can barely mention the drinks since I waited over an hour before I approached the waitress who seemed annoyed that I spoke to her. I don't think she was a horrible waitress because I watched her service the other patrons quickly and duteously. I am sure they are highly rated but I truly did not feel welcome. No one greeted me or my coworker. We were not asked if we wanted a menu, wanted a drink... we were basically ignored. My coworker asked for pool balls and we shot pool for over an. Hour. I finally asked the waitress after saying excuse me twice (while she changed the tv) for a drink. She took my order with such discuss I had to ask her if I was in someone else's section. She said no you were playing pool. :-). By the looks of the table, I was not the first person to have a drink while shooting pool. Horrible service. Kind of a random menu -- just a hodgepodge of different foods though none were too exotic. However, a menu like that is perfect when you're traveling with family and there's a picky kid involved. My father-in-law wasn't up for anything out of the ordinary so Rapture seemed a safe choice. He was very pleased with his grilled pork chops and spinach (the chops were thin-cut and looked delicious). I had the fish and chips and the fish was definitely some of the best I've had -- really light, good-quality fish (it could have been cod but I'm thinking something else, maybe grouper) thinly battered and lightly fried. It also wasn't a ridiculous portion so I was able to clean my plate. Fries were decent but forgettable. Others were pleased with their burger, chicken Caesar and chicken fingers. Everyone was happy and satisfied with their meals and we had a very sweet and friendly server who did great on her second day on the job. read more

I don't normally eat here but I had family show up on a Saturday late in the afternoon that wanted brunch. We settled on Rapture because the menu outside sounded good and they were open till 3 and not too crowded. Even better, we went in and the staff was super friendly. Normally Rapture's is a great experience for me. I dine their occasionally and the food is super tasty quick to the table and affordable. My weekends Rapture's will offer music and dance. Well this weekend I was shocked and dismayed when I was turned away by a obviously power thirsty security guard. At 1:35 am while the whole party was off the chain and getting good I was told that I could not enter. They allegedly were wrapping things up. Well I wanted to see if this was true so I sat in the outside dining area and watched for the next few minutes as not only were guest allowed to re-enter, two ladies were allowed to enter as well as another guest that the security team member charged for entry. I was appalled because I had been turned away minutes before so I approched the bouncer and asked why he admitted two woman and his answer to me was "main words two woman " indicated to me he had a preference for them over me. The clearly made me feel rejected and hurt. I pray this establishment learns to appreciate everyone in the community as being welcome when good clean fun is to be had. read more

Outstanding local spot! Has that local pub feel and an outstanding farm to table fare. This is our "always solid" choice of restaurants.

Excellent & thoughtful service. Delicious & tasty food from the starters all the way to dessert! Even the kids menu had an amazing four cheese mac n cheese from scratch that tasted like fondu! The local craft brews were a real treat as well. Decently priced. I had the fortune of living in the ville from 1999 until 2003 and I considered Rapture a 2nd home. During the day I would say it's even a great place for kids. My son used to get off the school bus here and walk to Rapture to meet his sitter, if they were still working he would shoot pool (he was 6-8 yrs old). The owner has children that hang out here and so do many of the wait staff. I'm not sure what it's like now but back then it had almost a 'Cheers' kind of feel-only better. I really felt welcomed and at home. If you live in c-ville and can hang out on a regular basis then I highly recommend this as your 'watering hole'. The food is pretty good and generally consistent. It's not 'designer' food but it is REALLY good for 'bar' food. The cooks care about their art. (Please don't order off menu unless you really have to and then consider slipping the cook a 5 and a thank you). The owner is a really great person. He made a clear choice to go into this business because he loves it and he's an extremely smart fellow-was getting his Ph.D at UVA and decided to do this! If you get a chance to meet/talk with him I suggest taking advantage of it-he's able to talk with anyone about anything and really likes meeting new people. The drinks are great and poured well if you know what I mean. Later in the evening (post 10ish) it's NOT a place for kids, it's a bar and has a great night life scene (Or at least it did). It has something for everyone....outside seating where you can run into friends, inside seating where you can have a more private meal, bar seating to facilitate meeting new friends and a pool table area to pass the time and have some fun. And if there's one thing my time in the ville taught me, it's important to get the right seat to the show, you'll enjoy it far more if you do so. In summary, Rapture is a great place with friendly, intelligent, non-judgemental folks and plenty to do to keep you entertained. read more

June 19th 20014 Dear Management, I wish to write you this letter to express how deeply offended I was, by a bar tender who worked While I was there, yesterday. The hour was between 4:30-5:15 on June 19th. Initially there were only Three others at the bar and then it was just myself. I am learning disabled and Gay. My disability Began after a brain injury to the left temporal lobe. My vision is weaker and I am a lot slower, now. While, I sat at the bar, I began to work on some spelling skills, for a class for learning disabled. In the Process, I asked the bar tender, if he could help me spell a word, since my spelling skills are so poor. The bar tender ignored me and I felt it was so awkward, since I was the only one there. I politely Asked him again, after he wanted to know if I was serious. Then he continued to say- Even a five year Old would know how to spell that word and he was not nice about it. The world is attitude and I told Him I was learning disabled and I did not see why he had to be so unwelcoming and unfriendly. He then gave me my bill and here I realized this guy had some serious issues, he was bringing on the job. I politely told him my mother just died and I wanted to have another beer and he begrudgingly poured Me another. I left, after paying my bill-with a wrench in my heart. Not only was I debased for my Intelligence but my integrity was slamed, just for seeking some help. He even claimed that my hygiene Was not good....in a condescending tone. I think he exaggerated everything. And because he represents Your restaurant, I think he should be spoken too and learn how to be friendly and mindfull of his manner. I was the only one in the bar briefly and it upset me that someone would have the lack of social skills And treat me in a derogatory fashion. By nature I am warm , CLEAN and friendly man and because my Pant had some soil on them, does not make me unclean. Regardless, I filed a complaint with disability Services and the GLBT organization, as form of support. If you address this guy, which you should- A somewhat stocky male with facial hair and at the time a stern look on his face- he probably will Obfuscate from the subject and make false allegations. I hope you will see the value of my offense and Appreciate that customer service is very essential to the well being of clients. My case worker typed this For me. Had a great experience there on Thanksgiving night! The music was awesome, the bartender was professional with some wonderful flair and the atmosphere was beautiful. But, what was truly amazing was that I left my wallet there on accident and when I came in the next day it was sitting in the office with all my cash and everything still intact. We actually came twice in one day as we were in town for a concert. Came in for happy hour for drinks and apps then again for drinks/snacks while our concert was postponed. Both times the food, service and drinks were on point. The nachos with the mooinshine cheese sauce were very good. Would also recommend the chicken wings and loaded fries. read more

Ive only been here for latin dance nights which used to be on Sunday evenings. Actually for a sunday it was a fun thing to do! There is a bar in the front and a decent dance floor with a second smaller bar in the back. Not sure how goos the drinks are. Tended to be an older crowd. Ok dj. Not the greatest lighting. Overall ok. But maybe a lot different on others nights. read more

It is such a shame...Rapture has such a good location but clearly there is a lack of good management. Start with basic common sense &position the umbrellas outside so patrons have shady tables & you'll keep them consistently full. We started with the ceviche which was delicious but about a 1/2 cup portion with 2 tortilla crisps (stale ones) stuck in it, not enough to scoop up the ceviche with. Tasty but they can do better. We were told the nachos had a mix of goat cheese & Vermont white cheddar mixed together..I could taste neither and usually with goat cheese there's a distinctive taste. The burger was absolutely delicious. Wings looked good too as did the chocolate mousse we saw a nearby diner eating. Drinks were good. So why only 2 stars??? SERVICE was horrible...decent initially but got worse as the evening progressed. At the end we figured out why it may have gotten worse (at first my husband and I were dining alone then one couple joined us..still good service but when an additional couple joined us we were now a table of 6...boom..they add on 20% automatic gratuity = giving our server no reason to give us good service anymore. It really kills the entire experience for me if service is bad and inattentive. It makes my evening out stressful not enjoyable. Sorry Rapture but our party of 6 won't be returning anytime soon..hope you can get it together. read more

We have been loyal customers of Rapture for 10 years and have stuck with it through several price hikes and simultaneous portion shrinking. We loved to come here for a burger and beer or fish and chips and it was a great $9 burger. When domestic drafts went up to $5.50, we were bummed, but switched to still reasonable $8 PBR pitchers. Tonight was the final straw though, when we went down for our usual burger and found that the price had gone up to $13 AND the tomato slice was a la carte for 50 cents!!!! Are you kidding me? I rebelled and ordered the salad which promised golden beets, black-eyed peas and asparagus on arugula. I am not exaggerating when I say that there were six 1/2" pieces of asparagus, 8 black-eyed peas, and a few miniscule diced beets. We will now switch to nearby Positively 4th St. as our regular burger place, where there is a generosity of spirit and the burgers are better. read more

Incredibly slow service, and rude servers. I had gone to brunch here a year ago and was pleased with the food. Although it took a while, it came out hot and was decent. We even went back with family to try again and again thought the menu had options that offered our group enough that everyone could find something. The building is neat, and the decor is pleasant. The last time we tried to go, we were 10 minutes before brunch service started and wanted to sit on the patio to wait for it to be open. I never imagined this would be a problem. As a curtesy, I asked a server if we could sit down and grab one of the many tables that were open. To my surprise, I got a VERY rude "no", as if we were inconveniencing them by wanting to give them business. We didn't expect to be served until they opened in 10 minutes, and I explained that and again got an incredibly rude response. This was the last time we tried to go there, and my suggestion is that it's not a pleasant place to try. The walking mall has more friendlier, better service options. Worst restaurant experience of my life. My friends and I decided on brunch at rapture for the morning after my bachelorette party. We wanted to eat somewhere outside so it appeared appealing, however when we asked our waiter if we could move an umbrella (that no other table was using) to give us a little shade in the 90+ degree weather his response was "not much I can do about that." Strike one. Strike two: our food took insanely long to arrive. Strike three: my friends order was completely wrong, but since we'd already been there an hour waiting for our food she was too hungry so chose to eat what the server had brought her. Strike four: when we asked to pay separately the waiter told us they could only split the check three ways (there were six of us and we each only had 20's to pay with, he then sends a manager out to reiterate the fact that they are just "too busy" to split a check but not busy enough that she stood out there for over 5minutes as we were trying to figure out how the heck we were gonna work that out (if she had the time to stand there and let us figure it out she clearly wasn't too busy to split a check). Finally, we decided we'd split our own check bc apparently they don't know how, we wrote on the back of the receipt exactly how much change each of us should get back out of all our 20's. After doing this, my friend stands up behind her chair to stand until we got our change back another waitress walks right into her pushing her forward against her chair and keeps walking. No "excuse me" no "are you alright?" Nothing. I am very hurt that the end of my bachelorette party went down like this. I was expecting a relaxing brunch with friends I had not seen in months and what I got was a story I won't hesitate to tell anyone considering doing ANY business with Rapture. Rude, rude, rude!!!!! Someone get this place a calculator and replace the jerks that work there asap. read more
