This place is so neat inside! We decided to sit outside for a cocktail since the weather was great and we had great service to match the weather. I had the Dixie Sparkler and my hubby had an old fashioned. We'll definitely be back during a date night since the indoor space is so unique. They have pool tables, funky decor with warm light table lamps, a large bar and more tables in the back with upstairs seating too and lots of light from big windows on the side since it's on a corner lot within the downtown mall. The location was great, but that was all. The waiter was attentive and seemed friendly but he became less cordial more condescending. There was a lot of talk about a special, 15 bean soup, which I ordered but it was never served. My wife ordered the fish and chips, it was really greasy. Like the cooking oil wasn't hot when it was cooked, the fries were soggy too. I had also asked for coffee at the end of the meal, the waiter said he Shenandoah Joe's brewing, but that wasn't served either. We weren't given a check, just asked who was paying? I gave him my card and he brought me the bill, $119 plus change bill. A little high for lunch for four and two only drank water and no dessert- it wasn't offered. I didn't even get a receipt, so I don't know if I was paying for the soup and coffee that I ordered but didn't receive. We dined there for brunch and ordered the the fried brussel sprouts for the appetizer and I ordered the veggie omelet for my entree. The fried brussel sprouts were different than I expected but they tasted really good! It came with a "spicy tomato sauce" and white sauce that I really liked. Although the sauce is labeled as spicy it did not taste spicy to me and that is coming from someone who does not enjoy spicy foods. My veggie omelet was good but nothing to write home about. While it tasted fine I would probably try something else the next time that I go. My boyfriend ordered a burger and it looked really good and he said he liked it. Both were good: the hamburger was cooked to the right temperature and had a fresh flavor, topped with well-flavored bacon. Only complaint was that the bacon was not as crispy as I would have liked. Took some company out to dinner tonight and had a bad experience. Both of the orders of Gumbo was like tomato soup with no shrimp, a little sausage and little chicken, hardly any meat at all. Heat level was ok but was way too tomato-y. More like tomato soup. Two of us ordered the ribeye, one of which was cooked a good bit past the medium per the order. Both were unusually fatty. We were too hungry to deal with delays so ate it regardless, but with much disappointment. Also didn't care for the attitude /personality of the waiter who was initially a bit cold and snippy. 2nd bad experience here. Got there about 4:30p on a Saturday. Wanted to sit outside. Was told to wait by the host stand and someone will seat us. We waited 5 mins with nobody recognizing us and left. My husband and I have had lunch here several times. The food has always been amazing. We both ordered steak. I had the filet rare and he ordered the ribeye medium rare. I had a really great meal here. Rapture is widely known as a nightclub at nighttime, but its food menu during the days can't be overlooked. We ordered a bunch of appetizers in tapas style. The sweet potato poutine was wonderful, especially with the creaminess of the goat cheese. I was slightly underwhelmed with the hush puppies, as I'd been anticipating them being a bit bigger. But my absolutely favorite was the pimento cheese croquettes that were so cheesy and melty inside of a crisp breaded exterior and served with a spicy mustard dipping sauce. i definitely don't recommend this at all because of the bartender NATALIE. she ignored us for an hour. acted like she put our food order in at 11pm. once it hit 12:30 we asked about where our food was and she said "that's not my job ask the cooks" i am also a bartender and i would never speak to my guests like that. completely unacceptable we didn't receive our 8 ct wings until 2 HOURS LATER. while the people that orders 30 seconds in front of us received their order 2 hours before us. damon and the cooks made sure to get our order out when they realized we were upset, the cook also told me he never received the order from her... i will be following up and calling in the morning because i've never been treated like this in a bar and this was completely unacceptable. SEXUALLY HARASSED BY STAFF!! DONT EAT HERE!! While the food was subpar... the wait staff was incredibly rude. I'm a younger woman and was wearing a tshirt with a funny slogan on it. One of the waiters (a bald man, probably early 50's) felt the need to aggressively explain to me that the slogan on my shirt meant sex and that the entire kitchen staff was "discussing the implications of me wearing that shirt". Definitely the first time I've dined somewhere just to be told that the restaurant staff was discussing if I was fuckable or not and felt the need to let me know. The man also noted that he thought I was a student, and "just wanted to let me know what men thought of me when I wore my shirt". I'm from out of town and am not a student at UVA but I would really warn girls not to eat here. If I hadn't had two friends with me to jump to my aid, I'm worried what else would have been said. I'm a big fan of rapture! It's got tons of personality for a bar/restaurant on the mall. First, I absolutely love their Tuesday night karaoke. It's a great, diverse fun loving crowd. Drinks are cheap and there's plenty of room in the back. I haven't tried their regular food but I'm inclined to after having two great Sunday brunches at rapture. Their biscuit and gravy is made from scratch and legit good. I recommend getting a side of some kind, methinks bacon is a solid choice. I also had their totchos which are tators tots in hollandaise. These were tasty but pretty small so won't fill anyone up whose really hungry. Their mimosa and bloody Mary's aren't mindblowing but will certainly scratch that brunch itch.
