I wonder though, if you knew or even cared about why it has taken me almost a week to write it. Let me explain. When I came into your salon last Wednesday, I was so excited. You see I have been in a really dark place for months now. I haven't been able to leave my home or go places in public by myself. Coming into your salon by myself was a huge step for me. I had been binge watching the Fab Five on Queer Eye doing makeovers and inspiring people. It was just the inspiration I needed, to make a change for myself. One that would allow me to feel beautiful on the outside. When I walked into your salon and sat down in your chair, you immediately started a conversation where you were judging another person. That should have been my first red flag to get out of there, but instead I stayed. I redirected the conversation, hoping that maybe you would see something from a kinder point of view and before I knew it, you and I got on a conversation of autism and I disclosed to you that I was autistic. As an autistic person, it is very hard for me to speak up for myself. However, at least twice I spoke up showing you the picture of what I had asked for and what didn't look right on my head. Never once did you explain to me why you did not think the cut would work, nor did you offer ideas on how we could get it as close to what I wanted as possible. Once the cut was done, I paid for your service, unhappy, but terrified to start a confrontation with you. I convinced myself instead, that some product and some hair dye would at least help me style my hair, and make it look somewhat presentable. Unfortunately, nothing I did made the cut you gave me look anything close to what I had asked for. I was devastated. After speaking to my daughter, she convinced me to allow her to call you. See, I had no intentions of taking this any further. If you knew anything about me, you would know that I am the most polite and kindest person you will ever meet. I don't like to start confrontation and I always worry about making other people feel bad. So I had all intentions of letting this go, but it was my daughter who stood up for me and said mom let me do this for you, because you did not deserve what you got. I agreed and allowed her to call you in attempt to simply get the money back that I had spent on this horrible cut. To my shock, when she called you, she tried to politely speak to you. However you started yelling at her and you stated that you were not going to give me the cut I asked for because you thought it would look silly and like a Karen cut. I don't know why you thought it was OK to cut someone's hair in a way that they had not asked for, simply based on your opinion of what they wanted. I do not understand why you thought it was your place to make a decision for me, especially without consulting me first. I have spent the better part of the last week in tears. Unable to go out in public, and unable to look in the mirror without breaking down all over again. If the cut I wanted was silly, then the cut that you provided for me is clearly beyond unacceptable. I would have liked to explain to you all that you have put me through, and all that you took away from me. My pride, my dignity, my ability to feel good about myself. However, when I arrived in your salon to pick up my refund, you would not even provide me one moment to ask questions, and to speak with you in a calm, kind and polite manner. Instead you chose to yell at me, speak over top of me, and leave me with so much anxiety and fear as I walked out of your store. This is not how a business owner should behave. I want everyone to know that this is a salon owner, who does not value their clients. This is a salon, owner, who thinks it is appropriate to take a pair of scissors, and violate the people in their chairs. This is a salon owner, who thinks too highly of their ability, to ever hold themselves accountable when they make mistakes. Above all, this salon is not a safe place for vulnerable people to feel heard and seen. Take it from me, go to another salon and let the pictures I've provided speak for themselves. This is a salon owner, who should not have a license to do hair, because it is clear that she believes she also has a license to do harm. For those of you reading this on Google or Yelp, please note that if I could, I would share the full audio recording of the way this salon owner yelled at me when I went to pick up my refund, because I made sure to cover all my bases. This salon is not a safe space, and coincidentally, this is not the only review that this salon has like this. Do your research and go somewhere else.

This was the first time in 32 yrs that a hairdresser listened, heard me and followed what I wanted. Gwen is THE BEST!!! I got my hair done before going on vacation in October and it came out PERFECT! Gwen was so kind, conversation was easy and she SLAYED! With over 20 years experience, she is an expert color mix artist, she knew exactly how to get the color I was looking for (which was unavailable via book) I cut over 10 inches off so I was pretty nervous about it but it came out great!!! I didn't even cry, which usually always happens when I sacrifice any real length. The salon is right on the main strip of Goshen so easy to find, lots of parking nearby and very comfortable.

Jess is a good listener, and did a wonderful job making my desired look into reality. I showed her some photos, she proposed a few options, I selected one, and she took the lead. I got permanent hair dye (originally had virgin hair) and hair cut for about $120 including tip. I consider this a fair price when compared with NYC salon prices. When I got there I was super impressed. The studio has a great decor and a cozy charm. Upon arriving I was greeted by the owner Tina who welcomed me in, introduced herself and offered me a cup of coffee. I knew instantly that I was going to have a good experience there. I was right. Donna did an excellent job on my color and cut and was great to chat with. The prices are reasonable, the atmosphere is inviting and the owner and staff make you feel right at home. I had been growing out my hair for 3 yrs and decided it was now too long. during this time I've had consistent trims/shape, but since moving I didn't think I could physically make the 1+ hr drive to my old salon bc I'm also physically disabled. I now regret this completely as it would have been less physically painful for me to endure the longer trip than to be going through what I am now. first, she took another client DURING MY APPT. WOW. as for the length, I asked for asymmetry (longer to the front). I warned her that my shrinkage is A LOT & she assured me she understood what I wanted, yet my hair is completely blunt, with no face framing layers. I showed her a reference photo of MYSELF, my own curls, from a little less than 2 yrs ago as a point I wanted to return to. I should have run screaming when she started using a comb on my dry hair, then began twisting tight sections which she would then cut into at an angle in multiple points to "create texture". SHE NEVER HAD MY PERMISSION OR CONSENT to completely change my hair texture, which she did. I even specified the way I style my hair is for DEFINITION, and the way she cut into it has completely destroyed my once perfect spiral curl pattern. I used to get asked if my hair was done by a curling iron or if it was a wig, now it looks absolutely horrible. you can see the after pics as well as a pic of my hair from 3 wks ago. I am completely traumatized by this experience and on my way home I ordered hair clips and even shears to try and salvage this atrocity, but there's no way to go backwards to before she completely chopped at my hair WITHOUT EVEN ASKING ME if that was what I wanted. when I left the salon, I did act like everything was fine, mostly because I still didn't know just how bad it was until I styled it myself, because SHE didn't style it. I was hoping it was just these products my hair disliked, or the humidity today, or my anxiety... I wanted to be wrong. I also thought she seemed genuinely nice and I didn't want to jump to the conclusion I already knew in my gut. when I told her how much I hated it, she eventually offered me a refund after saying I should just let it "grow out". she texted me confirmation of the refund, at which point I sent her the included photos of my hair after styling it normally (). I pressed further about the "added texture", why she would do that, and how can I fix it? she then proceeded to severely gaslight me, claiming my hair texture had probably just changed due to new products or diet, even though I covered both those topics when I was explaining what I wanted from this haircut. it was at this point I let her know what I really thought about her as a stylist and a person after she showed her true colors. the way I was treated was unbelievably horrible and I unfortunately won't soon forget it. I can usually only afford a 2x/yr cut, so for me it's always a big deal that I look forward to, after this I will never again visit a new salon, and I may never go to ANY hairdresser ever again. Cynthia truly did not listen to ANYTHING I said, and I was so nervous and focusing so hard on trying to "act normal" (which she of COURSE brought up to shame me further), that I didn't speak up or just leave when I should have. at first I thought this was just a mistake or a bad day, but after her response via text & lying response, I KNOW she maliciously chopped my hair & is hiding behind having "excellent reviews" as a way to escape the accountability, bc apparently I'm the only one to EVER be unhappy, ever. I am literally so completely devastated over this entire experience, I already know her response will just be more humiliation & deflection, as if a refund could fix it. DON'T MAKE THE MISTAKE I DID by trusting this salon. I can see Yelp has the ACCURATE records of this salon and from now on I will ALWAYS check Yelp too! I plan to follow up by suing Cynthia, she deserves it!

I think that should have been communicated before they started working on my hair. Otherwise, it's a lapse in communication and not a good way to treat clients you want to keep coming back.
