To the salon owner of studio, 787 in Newburgh New York. I am sure by now you've seen this review coming. I wonder though, if you knew or even cared about why it has taken me almost a week to write it. Let me explain. When I came into your salon last Wednesday, I was so excited. You see I have been in a really dark place for months now. I haven't been able to leave my home or go places in public by myself. Coming into your salon by myself was a huge step for me. I had been binge watching the Fab Five on Queer Eye doing makeovers and inspiring people. It was just the inspiration I needed, to make a change for myself. One that would allow me to feel beautiful on the outside. When I walked into your salon and sat down in your chair, you immediately started a conversation where you were judging another person. That should have been my first red flag to get out of there, but instead I stayed. I redirected the conversation, hoping that maybe you would see something from a kinder point of view and before I knew it, you and I got on a conversation of autism and I disclosed to you that I was autistic. As an autistic person, it is very hard for me to speak up for myself. However, at least twice I spoke up showing you the picture of what I had asked for and what didn't look right on my head. Never once did you explain to me why you did not think the cut would work, nor did you offer ideas on how we could get it as close to what I wanted as possible. Once the cut was done, I paid for your service, unhappy, but terrified to start a confrontation with you. I convinced myself instead, that some product and some hair dye would at least help me style my hair, and make it look somewhat presentable. Unfortunately, nothing I did made the cut you gave me look anything close to what I had asked for. I was devastated. After speaking to my daughter, she convinced me to allow her to call you. See, I had no intentions of taking this any further. If you knew anything about me, you would know that I am the most polite and kindest person you will ever meet. I don't like to start confrontation and I always worry about making other people feel bad. So I had all intentions of letting this go, but it was my daughter who stood up for me and said mom let me do this for you, because you did not deserve what you got. I agreed and allowed her to call you in attempt to simply get the money back that I had spent on this horrible cut. To my shock, when she called you, she tried to politely speak to you. However you started yelling at her and you stated that you were not going to give me the cut I asked for because you thought it would look silly and like a Karen cut. I don't know why you thought it was OK to cut someone's hair in a way that they had not asked for, simply based on your opinion of what they wanted. I do not understand why you thought it was your place to make a decision for me, especially without consulting me first. I have spent the better part of the last week in tears. Unable to go out in public, and unable to look in the mirror without breaking down all over again. If the cut I wanted was silly, then the cut that you provided for me is clearly beyond unacceptable. I would have liked to explain to you all that you have put me through, and all that you took away from me. My pride, my dignity, my ability to feel good about myself. However, when I arrived in your salon to pick up my refund, you would not even provide me one moment to ask questions, and to speak with you in a calm, kind and polite manner. Instead you chose to yell at me, speak over top of me, and leave me with so much anxiety and fear as I walked out of your store. This is not how a business owner should behave. I want everyone to know that this is a salon owner, who does not value their clients. This is a salon, owner, who thinks it is appropriate to take a pair of scissors, and violate the people in their chairs. This is a salon owner, who thinks too highly of their ability, to ever hold themselves accountable when they make mistakes. Above all, this salon is not a safe place for vulnerable people to feel heard and seen. Take it from me, go to another salon and let the pictures I've provided speak for themselves. This is a salon owner, who should not have a license to do hair, because it is clear that she believes she also has a license to do harm. For those of you reading this on Google or Yelp, please note that if I could, I would share the full audio recording of the way this salon owner yelled at me when I went to pick up my refund, because I made sure to cover all my bases. This salon is not a safe space, and coincidentally, this is not the only review that this salon has like this. Do your research and go somewhere else. read more

Worst hair experience I've ever had. First I get half a bad haircut... then she tries to fix it saying I said layers instead of face framing for the front. Then she continues to "fix" the side she missed by face framing me with a staircase looking type inch difference "framing". I had to leave before I ended up with a bad pixie cut. I used the same inspiration photo I've been using for years and never got this horrible result. Still looking for a good salon. read more

If you are looking for a great place to get your hair done then look no further!! It has been a while since I have found a good hair salon and I have finally found it!! Studio 787 has the best online appointment scheduled first of all. It tells you how much it will cost, let's you choose your stylist and gives you and estimated time frame as to how long you will be there... and it's pretty spot on!! So easy! I loved that! You walk into a clean, well light parlor with (my favorite part) a plethora of beautiful plants all over the salon! Since we had an appointment we went right in! After a little bit of conversation Ms Kelly knew exactly what I was looking for. It's not easy to find someone who can cut curly hair but with Ms Kelly's years of experience and her talent with scissors she gave me the healthiest cut I have had in years!! It was a special trip for my daughter to get her hair colored for her birthday and Ms Wanda went above and beyond with the purple highlights!! It's dark it's light there is even some pinks in there!! It was the icing on her cake!! The conversation flowed so nicely and the time went so fast! She took the time to talk through what I wanted, was cautious not to cut too short (which I appreciated) and she coached me through styling in detail. If you want a low cost curly haircut Irene is it! She's attentive and really listens to what you want and can actually cut curly hair the way it needs to be cut! They also will use devacurl products if you follow the curly girl method and I've even brought in my own products for her to use and she was completely fine with that! I really had high hopes for this location since I love supporting local people. However from the minute I walked in it was a huge sign I should have walked out. The hair stylist had no idea what to do with my hair. She shampooed my hair way too long and did little conditioning. Did not even brush the knots out of my thick textured hair. The energy was high with this stylist did not know what she was doing and did not follow directions of the owner. As the customer, I started to feel uncomfortable with my treatment and also felt insecure about my hair. The attitude of the owner made me feel like it was my fault I had textured hair. The environment was chaotic and not well managed. I was also shocked at the cost of the service and I left a tip for the original hairstylist and owner. I am hoping that they understood that although I didn't receive good service, my reasoning for leaving a tip was my way of saying enjoy it, I am not coming back. I was hesitant of writing this review because I also have a small business and know that YELP can make or break a business. However for those that have thick textured hair, it is best to stay away and go elsewhere. read more

I went in, asked for a medium fade skin with a quarter inch off the top. Well, I definitely got my quarter inch off the top with the cost of my fade being absolutely destroyed. It looks like I didn't even get a fade whatsoever. Overall I paid $17 when I really shouldn't have paid jack for that awful cut. I understand that it may not be a common cut that might be asked for in that store, but if that's the case then don't attempt to give the haircut anyway for an outrageous price. I received exceptional treatment from the owner and the staff. Initial Phone call to make an appointment was pleasant and accommodating to schedule a time. When I went there the next day my stylist Regina corrected my hair color and style. She cared and took the time to fix my hair. I was working in Newburgh for a few days and needed my roots done, this salon was close to my hotel and was convenient to book an appointment online. I lucked out and was able to schedule a 4:00pm appointment with Irene, who is the owner. Irene is an extremely talented colorist and a very skilled stylist. I was incredibly pleased with the way my hair turned out and especially happy for the affordable pricing. Irene is a kind and caring person and I noticed the way she treated me, her staff and other customers was very professional and considerate. Even though the store closes at 6:00pm Irene took her time to do a meticulous job and didn't rush me out. If you haven't been here before you should visit them, you won't be disappointed. In town for a West Point event, and I was able to get a same day hair style appointment. The stylist did a terrific job giving me a fancy event hair do. I was also able to get my makeup done. The makeup was airbrushed and looked really natural. The only issue was the attachment of the eyelashes, which could have been a little more secure. But the whole effect was lovely. Next time I'm visiting West Point, I'll definitely stop by for a shampoo and style. read more

Went in to get a style done for prom and was told it would take 45 minutes max if i came in with my hair washed and dried. I came in and she said she was just going to wet my hair and rewashed it completely and took 20 minutes diffusing it. By the time I left it was an hour and 20 minutes later, making me late to my makeup appointment and pictures. Bobby pins were falling out of my hair and I had to fix it myself. I don't usually write reviews but this time I really feel like I need to. I was looking for salons to get a hair cut, I really needed one but I was scared to go just anywhere. Once I saw the Coquí and the 787 area code in the name I was sold. Having curly hair it's hard to find people who know how to cut and handle it but, Irene did an amazing job!! She told me exactly what she was doing and even put me onto some new products. On top of the great haircut, the prices are very affordable, the salon was very comfortable and everyone was kind and welcoming. i wish i had waited for my salon to open for a much needed hair cut. i walked into this salon with medium long hair, the hairdresser must have been on something. christy cut my hair to my scalp and finished with shavin g the back of my head. my dog groomer could have done a better job. the position of the chair was not facing the mirror. i was in shock when i saw myself. she stated when asked for a short haircut by a customer. she can really go short. i never asked her for a short haircut. i asked for long layers to below the neck line. i have worn my hair long to semi- long all my life. my husband loves long hair on me. when i got home i called studio 787 for a credit of $25.00 to my card. the charge for a no wash, no blow-out. the owner took the telephone from a male recetionist and started a screamming conversation on the request. she was yelling so loud, i had to end the call. if you want to have a man haircut. this salon is for you. if you like cazy this salon is for you. if you want to have your hair cut and shaved, see chisty. she really loves to gi ve her customers a one year hairstyle. i hope my hair grows back in a year. i knew when her conversation to me was a little off. i should have left before the cut. beware! of this salon if you like your hair. best. judy I stand by my account of what happened at this salon.
