I 3 kids and have been with Dr. Fernandez for 11 years. I travel from Los Alamitos to Torrance just to have her as my kids pediatrician. My 8 year old son was seen for his yearly physical and just by doing a visual inspection of his body, she had concerns for a potential hernia in his testicle due to a size difference between the two testicle. Sure enough, it was a hernia. She takes all concerns seriously and makes sure she connects us to the right specialist. I'd like to start by acknowledging that Dr. Fernandez is extremely compassionate and over the last 16 months she has been my son's pediatrician, I have always felt heard and respected by her...which is why I am very disappointed to be leaving this review. My complaint is with the front office staff. My husband and I have experienced several instances where they have completely disregarded us and our concern for our son's health. They have no sense of urgency and completely lack empathy. Rather than taking a moment to see what they can do to help, they immediately turn patients away (I say patients bc I have heard from other parents they have shared the same experience on multiple occasions) and do so in a rude manner. They refuse to leave messages for the doctor and act like you're a nuisance when you ask them to do so...I am concerned that not only have I and multiple coworkers experienced unacceptable treatment, but staff at a different pediatrician's office shared that they've heard similar complaints from several parents. We have finally decided to receive treatment elsewhere, due to our final encounter being that our son was turned away (by Sabrina) and later diagnosed with PNEUMONIA. After multiple attempts to speak to a manager (I still have not received a call back) I am extremely disheartened. I truly hope Dr. Fernandez finds an office or staff that better suits her character. read more

As a first time parent, nothing is scarier than when your child is sick. Thankfully, Dr. Fernandez makes it less scary! I'll never forget how anxious I felt to be giving birth during the start of Covid lockdown, as well as having a baby diagnosed as IUGR. I reached out to Dr. Fernandez during my 3rd trimester and I immediately felt at ease knowing our daughter would be under her care. I still remember meeting Dr. Fernandez at the hospital the very first morning after our daughter was born. She has such a warm and welcoming personality. Talking to her felt like we were talking to a good friend. Being a mommy herself, you could tell she loves her job and takes pride in caring for her patients. I've never had a doctor who was responsive afterhours and on weekends. She has also never failed to check-in on my daughter after a visit with her. Over the last 3.5 years, we've experienced quite a number of scares: high fevers, all the respiratory viruses, HFM, and even a hospital stay. I'm going to miss Dr. Fernandez as my child's pediatrician but I cannot continue with this new office that she moved to due to their terrible flexibility. Review is not reflection of the doctor as she is amazing but her new office she moved to. I will not be taking my daughter to see her anymore. Her new office is extremely unaccommodating and expect you and your child to be on time and give no grace period. My mother with my 2 year old daughter drove an hour from Irvine to her appointment and was a few minutes late because of an accident and was denied being seen after being 7 min late. This is terrible for parents as things don't go always as planned and more so because you have to wait so long for an appointment date. She is attentive, kind and will never make you feel rushed. She supports formula if you decide breastfeeding isn't for you and will send you home with boxes of it! In the past 4 years, I have referred 5 friends to her and they'd all say the same about Dr. Fernandez. When my second son lost more than 10% of his weight in the first week, I felt discouraged. She is knowledgeable, attentive, empathetic, committed, thorough, and LOVES kids (and no, not all of them seem to love kids...I know, right?!). Dr. Fernandez knows her patients by name and makes them feel comfortable...their parents too! My children welcome visiting her office. She offers same day sick appointments, returns messages within the day, and prioritizes any issue she deems urgent. My son recently had quite a scare. I called Dr. Fernandez immediately and we had an in-office appointment that same day, labs and scans in the afternoon and a specialist appointment, via her network of amazing doctors, the next day. She either called or messaged me daily to see how he was doing and if he was improving. She was vigilant with tests and scan results and called me immediately to share what she was learning every step of the way, eliminating possible concerns. Thankfully everything turned out ok. Dr. Raquel is the best pediatrician for my toddler. We've been going to her since the birth of my daughter three years ago and I have no regrets. She has three boys of her own, so she's very realistic about what parenting looks like outside of a textbook. She has an open attitude to different styles of parenting, sleep schedule, pacifiers, dietary choices, etc but offers suggestions when you ask her for help. I wish I could give Dr Fernandez 10 stars ;) She has seen my kids since birth. (Daughter is 6 and son is 20 months) She is so sweet, kind and knowledgeable! Makes your kids really feel comfortable and takes the time to know her patients. She always goes the extra mile. When my son was 2 weeks old she noticed right away signs of torticollis.. my thought was torti what what!? I was so scared but she gave me sooo much knowledge and really educated me. She referred us to a physical therapist to get starting asap. Then at 4 months had us get an ultrasound to rule out hip dysplacia which usually goes hand in hand with torticollis. Also at 4 months we noticed he had sever plagiochephaly, I was Devastated!!! I cried thinking of my baby in a helmet I always thought it was horrible but she was so caring and made me feel good with our decision. My son finished physical therapy early at 10 months and only had to wear the helmet 3 months. because Dr Fernandez noticed signs early! Now I laugh because I miss that stinky helmet and love my babies perfectly round head. A few times, my kids have been sick and I got in quickly with an appt. She then called and checked in days later. She really cares about her patients!
