If you are using RARE for moving, I found them fine. BUT, since we were moving out of state we thought it was a good idea to store our items with them until we found a home in our new state. The actual move was fine. Nothing broken, the guys were on time and very professional. However, a third of the items we stored with them were lost and never to be seen again. My sister also using RARE made the same move at the same time and again, about a 1/3rd of her items were missing and never to been seen again. Kamaul paid us for our missing items, but that is not the point you want your stuff, or you would have never packed and stored them and oh yes, paid for storage monthly which there was no deduction for lost items. Also, it is very hard to figure out all the items that are missing until you go to reach for an item you need, and it's gone months later. I am still finding things that are missing that I had not thought to put on the reimbursement list. Soooo, if you are using them to move, ok DON'T STORE ANYTHING. Keep in mind that many items cannot really be replaced. They have sentimental value, they mean a lot to you or you would not have packed stored and intended to have them in your new home. JUST DON'T STORE ANYTHING WITH THEM IF YOU WANT IT. You are better off having it moved and put into storage in your new city. Good luck with your move. read more

A few weeks ago, I used this company to assist in packing a storage cube and the team (Brooks & Mike) were fantastic! Not only were they early and quick, but very efficient in getting my things moved from a storage facility and into a storage cube for future moving needs. The team was also extremely friendly and super careful with my belongings. While my experience was largely very positive, I have a personal preference for the use of shrink wrap (as opposed to tape). Since my items are being stored long-term, I wish my mattress was shrink wrapped shut as opposed to tapped shut in the mattress bag. I tried to rectify this with the team beforehand but more tape was applied. This is my only regret from the day. Other than this is one issue, I really appreciated the team and will definitely recommend RARE Movers to others. read more

Where oh where do I begin? This team is incredible. I can't explain how many quotes I got before deciding on rare moving and for most I found quite a few skeletons in the closet upon doing further research. This is the only moving company that I found where they were exactly who they presented to be. I was doing an interstate move for the first time in a decade with significantly more stuff than the first time I did it and they made my experience seamless. This time we hired them for both packing the moving services (packing is impossible with a toddler under foot.) I used this company for a move from Cambridge, MA to Worcester, MA. The owner, Kamaul Reid was a pleasure to work with over the phone and in person. He was professional, polite, courteous, and accommodating. He responds literally right away (called me back as I was leaving a message) and takes the time to answer any questions you might have. He also was helpful in anticipating my moving needs and organizing the appropriate supplies I needed. The move itself went seamlessly. I hired two men for the labor who were efficient, polite, competent, careful, and excellent at planing ahead...clearly experienced movers! I can't say how pleased with them I was. One of them even found an old sports-bra under my bed and were nothing if not discreet in mentioning it and tucking it away in the mattress bag. As a testament to their efficiency, they estimated it would take about 2-3 hours to move me out of my one bedroom and they finished closer to 1.5 hours. Additionally, they were the most affordable company I could find. I feel fortunate to have found a company that provided a cost-conscious move without compromising on quality. Truly a "RARE" find. The worst mover we have ever used (and we've moved a lot - cross country, around the block, overseas). 1. They forget stuff - yup nothing like watching the moving van pull away when you notice they forgot an entire closet of stuff and a computer. And you've pointed it out multiple times 2. They break things - breaks happen when you move, sometimes. But breaking a soldered metal table leg and then trying to tell me it had already been broken when it was brand new? #loserandliar 3. They show up unsupervised - the owner/manager was basically doing 2 jobs on the day they were moving us and disappeared for hours at a time. He puts one of his guys "in charge" who doesn't know it so the whole crew ambles around for a while. 4. They're unsafe - we had to use a crane to get some of the furniture out of our 6th story back bay home. This meant taking out a window. Now imagine walking in and seeing one guy in the open window, no one spotting him, no harness, no restraint, centimeters from slipping out the window and the attitude is "yeah, I do this". Maybe. But my homeowners insurance does not. 5. They're gross - someone decided to use a bathroom, drop a huuuuuuge deuce, flush, jam the toilet so it overflowed then shut the door and walked away. Only found when I checked to see if they had packed that room. So in summary? Just don't. read more

Saviors!!! In one word, that would explain it all. I had a very heavy new refridgerator with "free shipping" that was unsuccessfully delivered twice by JB Hunt and Final Mile Services. Owner Kamaul called immediately the same day, said he loved a challenge when I said we'd probably have to crane it into my 3rd story window after the failures. He sent one of his best men the next morning for a free in-person estimate and measurement. They came two days later when it worked with my schedule with two guys and deftly navigated the behemoth up the tight New England stairwell to my place. Returning it was not an option and they made my day! Very reasonable prices with two hour minimum -- much cheaper than a crane! I will be a repeat customer--Very impressed. read more

The name is accurate; these guys are indeed Rare! Everyone is great to deal with whether on email or phone. They are super-well organized and trained. Seriously -- trained. They use a team lead who is like a squad leader directing and coordinating the action while ticking off everything on an inventory, and providing OJT for the crew on specialty pieces and techniques. All the while, the whole team was super nice, cracking jokes every now and then, keeping it light. They have a good vibe going and everyone stays in good spirits through the hard work. Now, the extra credit portion. We moved from Boston to a fire station in Holyoke, MA., with storage for two months between a move out and a move in. Our situation was crazy for a while and Rare was totally flexible, accommodating our needs. We have a ton of unique interesting, weird pieces of furniture (code for "heavy and fragile") and over 9,000 books. Both move out and move in were challenging, and these guys were solid. I found RARE moving on Yelp based on the great reviews. They are also located in Dorchester, so I figured they would know the area well. A couple month's before I planned to move I scheduled to use RARE moving on Sept 1st, knowing it would be a busy day. They were quick to provide me with what I felt was a very reasonable quote of $700 to move about 3/4 of a mile away. I was very detailed in explaining everything I had, a large refrigerator, a sectional couch, a chair, side table, large flat screen, dining room table, chairs and about 5 boxes. They asked for a $100 deposit, which I paid and that was that. About a week before the move I called to update the items on the list, he recommended that I change from 2 to 3 guys because it would move faster. I also scheduled the time window of 1-3pm. On Sept 1st, they called at 2pm, quickly loaded up the truck and got over to my new place around the corner. It took longer to move into the new place because they had to use the stairs. But it was overall an organized quick process. I had a few issues which were brought to the owners attention and he made it right. For me that's the most important part. I've moved twice with RARE now. Once within the Boston area and then another from Boston to Texas. I've been really happy both times. My most recent move to Texas went really smoothly - RARE was able to come pick up and deliver on specific days (instead of having like a 15 day delivery window that some companies will give you when the move is out-of-state). And Kamaul went out of his way to make sure that they'd be able to handle my move. They sent 3 guys to do the load up and 1 to unload (I was worried about this but he was able to handle it just fine). The team who packed everything in the truck actually helped me shovel snow out of the way so the truck could easily park, was really nice of them! Everything was wrapped for protection and identified on a manifest - they were very thorough. The cost was also super affordable, which gave me room to tip all the guys better - they did a great job. And Kamual was very easy to reach when I had questions. All in all, great experience. Really recommend them. read more

This company is excellent. I had a long distance move from boston to vegas. The movers arrived on time at 8am and finished promptly. They took care of my belongings and assured me it would arrive in Vegas within 10 days. It arrived a lot faster than that. The only downside was when my stuff arrived in Vegas they only had one mover. In a 110 degree weather that was a lot of stuff to move so my fiancé helped him out. A small filing cabinet got damaged but they quickly replaced and refunded me. Truly exceptional service and are there for the customer. They are not some major corporation trying to screw the little guy. Also, my move was very affordable. At least 6,000 dollars less than the competitors. read more

We used RARE to move from Marshfield to Duxbury in Oct 2012. We had a lot of boxes as well as many, many large pieces of furniture to move that needed TLC. Plus a 800 lb wood burning stove that was still attached to the chimney. After 4 guys in 2 26' trucks spent 7 hours tirelessly dedicated to getting us packed, the trucks were packed and ready to be parked for 2 nights until the unload. The guys made it look easy though and they were on top of whatever needed to be done without much direction from us. The drop off was a separate day, and again, the 4 man crew diligently did their duties. And not only were they kind with our stuff, they were also really nice guys who you could share a laugh with...although they were always professional and would not slow up the process during side talk. And kudos to owner Kamaul Reid who I had contacted post-move about some minor bush damage that the big trucks did while maneuvering through our driveway. His response was incredibly speedy and he reimbursed us for the damages instantly. I can't say enough about this crew. We found them through Angie's list (where they received top honors) and we would certainly use them again! (only hopefully our next move is six feet under...because boy packing/unpacking stinks!) PS. I recommend all people hiring movers make sure you have drinks and food ready for the guys. Just pad your estimate to include it because it's important to keep the guys fueled. read more

I've used Rare moving & trucking on two separate occasions and was extremely happy with their services on both moves. To begin with, the owner, Kamaul Reid is as gracious and friendly as they get. On my first move he was more than willing to work with my landlord's ever shifting move-in date. The movers, on both occasions, were friendly and efficient. They asked how I might like things set up and even advised me against putting my bed near the window as it would be a problem for my air conditioner. Friendly and upbeat they provided boxes and tape (for a small fee) to help me get together some last minute items. The movers were early on one occasion and on time for the other. Absolutely amazing service. My daughter hired RARE to move from Brookline to Somerville. This move would require overnight storage as well as some furniture disassembly and assembly. I was first planning to move my things out of my apartment on one day, store them overnight, and move them to the new place the following day, which was quite daunting. RARE was one of the few moving companies that was able to accommodate this request (it was during the busiest moving time of the year) and give me a very reasonable price. At the last minute, I was told that I could move into my new apartment a day early, which meant that I could move everything from my old apartment to my new one on the same day. I was nervous moving from a tiny north end studio (up a VERY narrow flight of steps) to large place outside of Boston. From day 1, Kamaul and his team were a class act, making sure that they promptly answered whatever questions I had and alleviated any of my (ridiculous) concerns. On the day of the move, everything went off without a hitch, from rearranging the furniture multiple times to unpacking items for me, except for one thing - the base of my TV broke off.
