One of our favorite seafood restaurants! The fried shrimp poboys are a must have! I counted about 40 shrimp on mine! 9.99 for 1/2 a poboy. A delicious deal! The marinated, seasoned fried chicken (on the buffet Thursdays & Saturday nights) are outstanding. The shrimp etouffee is incredible but almost inedible, too much seasoning. It's fire engine, burn your mouth hot. And I love seasoned food. Customers must send this back frequently. read more

Stopped here for their Sunday lunch buffet on my way to Lake Charles, and overall, we enjoyed it. The food, for the most part, was very good and well-seasoned. The only thing I didn't really care for was the banana pudding, which wasn't sweet at all (did they forget the sugar)? The only reason why I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is because there were a lot of flies. This was my second time here and I was so impressed the first time I decided the next time I was visiting I wanted to take my mother in law here. I ordered the chicken fried steak with baked and gravy she ordered the hamburger steak with gravy. Hers was good and hot mine unfortunately came out barely warm especially the gravy. The waiter did replace it however waiting over 10 mins the second plate came back warm as well. I eventually said just bring me hamburger steak hoping that it was hot. While it was alot hotter than the previous two plates but after the back and forth and my mother in law being finished I just got a box to go. I suggest that they make sure that the gravy stays hot not lukewarm especially when your pouring it over food. Been here a few times but never when they had a buffet. This time was different. Everything on the buffet was flavorful and delicious. The fried chicken was awesome. Best around. They have many cooked vegetables and even a vegetable soup that's as good as grandma's. The place is very clean. A lady tends to the front of the buffer cleaning it all day. This place is special. The buffet is amazing, but I always order the chicken and sausage gumbo with a shrimp po-boy. The gumbo is outstanding; as good as the gold standard gumbo at Bon Creole Lunch Counter in New Iberia. The po-boy shrimp are perfectly cooked. The decore is cute and it's a big place. They did have a buffet, although the waitress did not tell us anything about it, so we ordered from the menu. The food was good. We ordered the "Half and Half" which was fried shrimp and catfish. My thing was that although we were served a salad, the shrimp and catfish were served alone. It just looked and felt weird. The food here is amazing and the portions are very generous. We stopped here on our roadtrip back to TX and their portions are bigger than any other cajun restaurant we've had!! We got fried pickles, crawfish etoufee, fried shrimp poboy, a large chicken and sausage gumbo, and the shrimp dinner all for under $100. Everything we ordered was sooooo good. The shrimp poboy , gumbo , etouffee, shrimp dinner with mashed potatoes , fried pickles are all excellent and the food portion or size are all excellent. We stopped in here on our way from Florida to Texas. We were pleasantly surprised that it was attached to a truck stop so it was a easy in easy out with our 5th wheel trailer. The wait was very quick. The food was hot, large serving sizes and very good. We skipped on the buffet due to the fact that the only meat option on it was pork chops. That's why I did the 4 stars instead of 5 stars. We ordered the whole roast beef po-boy, the crawfish fettuccine and three kid meals. The kids meals were very good sized. My husbands po-boy was massive (and we eat a lot of food). We would definitely go back and highly recommend. It looks a little shady from the outside but inside was clean and had clean bathrooms. read more

We were driving from Houston to Baton Rouge tonight and stopped to get gas in Rayne. We wanted something good and gas station guy said we should go to Rascals to grab a shrimp poboy - only four miles to the Duson exit. It was 8:52 when we got back in the car, looked at Yelp reviews, saw 4.2 stars and it closed at ten. We walked in at 9:05 and the hostess said "sorry. The kitchen just closed". We said "I thought you closed at ten". Nope. It's nine. I showed her the yelp page and she said "I wondered why so many people come in after we're closed". My wife said "can we at least have a PO boy?" She said "no, but let's see what's left in the buffet." Turns out the poboy shrimp was still out and she gave us a huge takeout box of the best popcorn shrimp and tartar sauce ever. And comped it since it wouldn't keep overnight. Oh so delicious. I wish I had grabbed some frog legs, too (it is Rayne Louisiana, the Frog Capital of America, after all). Next time. We're definitely going back BEFORE 9 to get the rest of the meal. Skip Popeyes and churches and eat local. Five stars, will definitely go back. read more

Gumbo was the bomb! Get the seafood one and add crab. The bowls are large and it was filling. The seafood is super fresh. They have a buffet option and they keep it hot and ready. Lacy was our server, ask for her each time! She is so nice and friendly! She took great care of us and she was so personable! I'll be back mainly because of her service along with the quality and taste of the gumbo. It's right off I-10 and next door to the gas station. I've never eaten at any other buffet where absolutely every item, from the mains down to the smallest side, is absolutely delicious. The cooking is very home style, but done at a truly high level. Everything is perfectly seasoned and full of with real homestyle touches like sausage in the black eyed peas, real minced garlic used in the pork grave, just great food period. First time we drove by here over a week ago, we couldn't get in without waiting at least 30 minutes to be seated. We passed up on that chance and ate somewhere else. Today is New Year's Eve and we're driving back from our long road trip. I called every other restaurant and this is about the only restaurant that was still open (until 7:30 pm). We got in and we were immediately seated. There's an overwhelming smell of cigarette smoke. I thought maybe it's just by the entrance so we picked a booth further back. It's even worse. I'm not sure exactly where the smell is coming from as nobody inside the restaurant is smoking. I guess it was from the casino next door. We had to move to a different booth somewhere middle of the restaurant where we can't smell the smoke as bad. I ordered the crawfish fettuccine; hubby got the crawfish ettouffe; older kid got the half size steak poboy; and the youngest one got the Mac n cheese kid's meal. The fettuccine was good. The ettouffe was bad. The rice wasn't fully cooked to begin with! Older kiddo said he loved his poboy and the little one ate half his bowl of mac n cheese. I think this place is overrated. I wouldn't suggest this place for families with small kids. The second hand smoke we all get is ridiculous! Because of the smoke issue alone, I would not recommend this place. Unless of course, if any of you don't mind it, then by all means sniff it out. read more

The fried chicken buffet on Thursday for lunch and dinner is OFF THE CHAIN..... The chicken is always hot and fresh, really nice crust and the spice is just right. A billboard with a high star rank brought it to our attention. Please ignore the billboard and yelp review stars, and go somewhere else. Its has a strong smoke smell as it abutted with the casino. We were expecting good Cajun food. The menu has Cajun items, but the dishes are made like fast food that is bland. I ordered a shrimp po boy, but it was bland fried shrimp, low quality white bread, with no real seasoning to speak of. Basic fries and no seasoning. My son ordered a hamburger, but it was a basic bun, lettuce and tomatoes. If you are looking for good Cajun food, this is not the place. Not sure how they got a high star status. read more

After all the bad culinary experiences we've had in Louisiana I'm happy that we found this place. I think it might be the only restaurant that you can get good food outside of New Orleans. Their overstuffed shrimp poboy is truly overstuffed. The bread is good which is rare for poboys. The breading on both the shrimp and onion rings is very light, but they pack the seasoning in! I have eaten all I've the lower Louisiana area. This place has got the best Gumbo I have every eaten. The only regret I got is I wish I would of gotten the bigger serving. Only went for the cup. Words can't describe how good their fried chicken and rice dressing is. Rice dressing is the same as dirty rice or cajun rice. Their all you can eat fried chicken buffet on Thursday nights is a game changer. They do offer other item besides fried chicken and ricedressing on the buffet, but don't let all that other stuff distract you from what they do best. read more
