First time, stopped for late lunch. Let the kid at the register order for me. He was confident and picked something I wouldn't have ordered, the Reuben with a side of potato salad. Sandwich was ridiculously good. Griddle toasted premium rye, sliced just thick enough to hold things together. Sauerkraut was just right to balance the pastrami brisket that was off the chain. Potato salad was mustard based with fresh onion. Smaller portion, single scoop, perfect for lunch. Refreshing, not over filling. Potatoes must be blended, ice cold. Very good. Crowd was light, staff was cleaning and serving well. Chill music low enough for conversation. Will be back. read more

Right at a decade since I last ate here I decided to give this place and try and specially since in your ownership. I ended up getting the barbecue chicken plate. Which cost a little over $13. In my opinion definitely not work for $13. Average tasting chicken, and the sweet potato was better than average. The service was decent at best. It may not be another decade before I eat here again. Ordered a couple of plate lunches on a Friday here at work. They have really friendly staff and make sure to accommodate anyone with special requests or substitutions. Decided to come try this place since I was in the area. Once you get into the establishment, you get greeted by these nice people behind the counter, and the environment takes you back to the better days. We had the following: -Boudin - the boudin was flavorful, and had a good kick to it -Boudin Ball - the boudin ball was okay, felt a little too soggy and oily -Crawfish étouffée w/ corn maque choux & potato salad - delicious, but can use a little more seasoning -High School Spaghetti w/smothered cabbage & potato salad - this was the highlight of our trip, this is nostalgia at its finest. Took me back to elementary days, chowing down on the simplest, delicious spaghetti that I knew! Overall, it was a successful visit, we would come back to try their other dishes. read more

So I found out about this place at the poboy festival. The Rueben was one of the best I've ever had. I've wanted to try out the actual restaurant ever since. This weekend I had the chance and I was not disappointed.The porchetta poboy is fantastic!! My wife had the shrimp poboy and it was amazing! The flavor of the shrimp was great. I went to this establishment this morning after having tuned into multiple Instagram postings over the last couple of weeks. I was excited. In picture, the boudin looked amazing and that is really what I was going for. When I arrived I was greeted by a sign on the door that read "Free Town Boudin". Sounded catchy! I was quickly disappointed when I learned that they were out of boudin and wouldn't be serving any for the rest of the day. How does that even happen? Saturday morning at 11 AM, in the heart of Lafayette, and no boudin? This is what they have been advertising.. is it not? I still remain confused.. Long story short, I settled for a mushy, tangy boudin ball that was left under a heat lamp. It had a funnel cake-like breading, which offered little textural balance (average at best). With regard to the specialty meats.. they were non-existent. Not a cut of meat to be had. No Butcher's counter. No frozen cuts.. nothing. Again.. disappointed and not consistent with the advertisement. I decided to salvage the trip by ordering a cheese burger and onion rings, which were quite tasty. The patty was well seasoned, good burger to bun ratio, and the shredded cabbage on top added a nice touch. In summary, I walked in expecting an old fashioned superette/specialty meats experience, and walked out with a cheese burger and onion rings.. Perhaps I caught them on a bad day? read more

I'm going to gush here y'all. Recently, while in Lafayette, I was in a car accident. I won't go into too many details but it was bad. It happened right in front of this place. I pulled my car in because the lady who owns the place walked out and waved us in. I had my seven year old little girl with me and when we were hit it was on her side. She was obviously devastated. She was screaming and crying and I was shaking. The woman who owns this store comes out, hugs us, ushers us into her store and gave my daughter a water bottle and called the police for me. Her husband asked if we wanted him to cook us anything. We didn't :) My vehicle was not drive-able so we had to stay the night, which lucky for us...we have family in the area. I don't remember their names but as they were closing up their store and going home the police and tow truck were still there and she simply said to me as I apologized for my car still being there said "you can leave your car here as long as you need to, baby" Just when you've sort of lost your faith in humanity the kindness of strangers will make you believe otherwise. read more

Tried a plate lunch and it was delicious. Seven steak rice and gravy, smothered cabbage and white beans. The seven steak was fall apart tender and every thing was seasoned to coonass perfection. They have burgers and breakfast all day I will have to give it a try. read more

Cashier was very unprofessional. She gave me a wait time of ten minutes which ultimately ended up being 30 minutes. Then when I asked for my refund she didn't know if I paid cash or card. She also didn't remember what amount I paid. It looks like a very nice establishment but unfortunately I was unable to try the food because of piss poor service. I also observed other patrons ordering after I got there and received there orders. Would hate to think it's a racist establishment but my first impression wasn't good. read more

What an awesome spot for lunch, and a great staple of the community. The folks behind the counter are welcoming and friendly, and they have a ton of great lunch options. I came close to closing time when they were out of most of the other lunch plates, so I had the burger and it was phenomenal. They knocked it out of the park. Y'all, this place is amazing. The food is the real deal. Ask for Toby, he's just about the best guy you'll ever meet and is somehow an even better cook. They made all the food for our Wedding Celebration at the Blue Moon Saloon. The wedding was weeks ago and our guests are STILL talking about the food. The marinated pork, sweet potato hash and gato pecan dessert was RIDICULOUS. The night of the event it rained (like serious rain), we had a power outage, conditions were not ideal. Amazing place. It's so homey, but they have a bigger menu than you'd expect. I always get simple things, like breakfast sandwiches and grits, but i'm excited to try some of their lunch options next time I go. They have plate lunches, which makes me happy (and they always smell so good). The staff is as friendly as can be. Make sure you bring cash, cause last time i went their usual register was broken and i had no way to tip with my card. I ended up running home to get some tip money cause i felt bad leaving them without a tip. I would eat breakfast here every day if I could. read more

It's been a couple months since my last visit, my how things have changed. Tried the Boudin Balls, Disappointed! They were mushy and had a flavor I couldn't identify. Never found a whole grain of rice. Red pepper covers a lot of mistakes. Ordered a cheeseburger,"it ain't what it used to be." Burgers are now about 1/3 smaller then they used to be, and the price went up. My burger had a fair amount of gristle in it. Was cooked well done, was not asked how I wanted it; it would not have been well done. The main flavor was the seasoning not the beef. NOT worth $8.00! Observed that the price for a 2 piece dark fried chicken with 2 side is $10.00. That had better be the best fried chicken in the state for that price. This unassuming little place packs a punch. It looks like a little store with average plate lunches, but there's nothing average about this place. I got the hamburger, which was good, but after tasting my dad's pork rice and gravy I had to order a second lunch. The owner was dishing out the food, and he was very friendly. I ordered two pieces of Fried chicken and fries and if it weren't the WORST fried chicken I ever had In my life then may God himself strike me down right now. It didn't even resemble fried chicken and it smelled terrible. It was covered in seasoning maybe in attempt to hide the quality of the chicken. I've never had chicken with skin that just fell off and wasn't attached to the meat. I couldn't even finish my meal and have no appetite after biting down on that atrocious piece of chicken.
