We love Rashida Sawyer Bakery's treats! The carrot cake is their classic and SOOO good. The ingredients are top-shelf and the flavor and moistness are excellent. Of course I'm biased ... Rashida baked my wedding carrot cake in 1990! We're still going strong and so is her recipe. Everything I've tried from the bakery is delicious (don't forget the morning muffins!). I ordered a cake and cupcake bouquet. The aesthetics were very pleasing. The cake had. macarons, strawberries and drip design as requested. The only thing "wrong" was that a baking chocolate square instead of a dark or milk chocolate piece was used as a decoration. It was completely bitter as it was not meant to be eaten. My relatives took a bite and promptly spit it out. The cupcake bouquet came out cute in shades of pink. The birthday celebrant loved it. They just need to make sure they don't confuse a baking chocolate square with milk or dark chocolate square next time. Thank you! read more

My partner brought home a cake for my birthday and it was one of the best cakes I've eaten in my life. And I LOVE cake. I love baking cake. I love eating cake. I have tried SO many cakes. We're not from Ithaca and he went out to get me a cake and chose this bakery at random, unplanned, just because he knew how much I love cake. It was a cheesecake with a thick walnut crust and fresh cherries in syrup on top. To be honest, I have never even liked cherries in any cake or pie because of how artificial it usually tastes. (He chose this one because he came in late in the day, when there weren't that many whole cakes left.) But this was ungodly delicious, with each part of the cake complimenting one another. It was absolute perfection. Not too sweet, not too heavy. It sliced up into perfect triangles. The crust didn't fall apart. It was the perfect end to a great birthday. A horrible experience with Rashida Bakery. I ordered a dozen cupcakes a month in advance for my son on his birthday. They called 48 hours before his birthday to tell me they could not deliver on a Sunday. They are closed and they can deliver on Saturday. No apology at all. After expressing my disappointment, they said they would see if someone could deliver and call me back. The dozen cupcakes were costing $67, which was already ridiculous. I called another bakery in Ithaca who was not only willing to make the cupcakes and deliver them on Sunday but they also provided two dozen cupcakes for what Rashida was charging me for one dozen. They did eventually call back and said they could deliver on a Sunday - JUST THIS ONE TIME and I told them that I found someone else to do it. Keep in mind - this was their error scheduling a delivery on a day they are not open, yet I was made to feel like I made the error. I was fully charged for the cupcakes anyway and when I recently called to be reimbursed they said they would not reimburse me because they had offered to deliver them. Yes - they did - hours after they told me that they would not deliver on a Sunday with 48 hours until my son's birthday. This bakery is rude, overpriced, and dishonest. I was charged for cupcakes I never received after being told they could not deliver them on the date I had set weeks before. I will NEVER order anything from this bakery again and I will ensure that everyone at my son's university on social media who looks to order something from a bakery for their child hears this story. -------- Following up to the comment from Rashida Sawyer Bakery, the individuals who were rude and disgusting were you and your employees. Your bakery made an error and refused to apologize for it and offered no other fix than to deliver it on the wrong day. Only after I expressed my disappointment did someone look into having them delivered on a Sunday. If you want to cover up your bad business practices, rude customer service, and dishonest transactions by name-calling your customers, lying about the incident, and blaming them for your errors, well, then I do not need to say anymore. You have underscored my horrible review of your bakery and staff. I will be reaching out to the Better Business Bureau about my interactions with your bakery, including the fact that your response below is full of lies and is defamation. I had a wonderful slice of truly southern pound cake. I grew up in the south and it is rare that I find a food item that represents food or dessert that I remember from my childhood especially in Ithaca, NY. The pound cake was moist and sweet on the inside with a crispy crust around the outside. The flavor was perfect and brought back many memories. I found this bakery at what appears to be a new location for this store. Plenty of parking, COVID safety measures in place and when I called to see if I could pick up a slice of cake at 10:30 am they accommodated me due to my schedule and having to get to another meeting. I was very grateful. Also, I know this could quickly become a bad habit for me. :) Usually, I am a savory kinda gal but I do have a few "sweet" shortcomings and one of them in true southern pound cake. I wish I had a taken a picture of the cake but I ate it too quickly. I am thinking about ordering a whole cake to share with family and friends for the Christmas holiday. My fear is that I won't want to share the cake. I highly recommend supporting this new business in Ithaca, NY and I look forward to sampling their other treats. read more

I bought a red velvet birthday cake for my son and it was absolutely delicious. I'm from NYC so I don't consider the prices here high at all. I'm always confused by anyone who gripes about the price of things that are well made and that take a lot of time to create from scratch. The cake I had made was well worth it. It was moist, tasty and the cream cheese frosting was smooth and delicious. It was obviously made with love and care. I had a group of children taste tasting it and it got a huge thumbs up from all of them. I've also brought their brownies to college-age students and they're still asking about them, wondering where I got them. I also stopped by and had their cheesecake and my daughter and I agreed it was the best cheesecake we ever had. So this makes three occasions I've stopped by and it never disappoints. It's always great to support a local business and this is one I'll keep going back to. I hope everyone stops in to make sure this business continues to get the attention it deserves. read more
