We went to Collegetown Bagels downtown; as I am with the ultimate bagel teenager. And wow - it was good! My only minor complaint is that there is soooo much cream cheese on the bagels - which of course could be a good thing for most people! I went for a rosemary salt bagel with plain cream cheese and it was so very, very, good. Just right. And my granddaughter went for a sesame bagel with veggie cream cheese and couldn't even eat it all! I think the reason I was able to is that I went for water w/the bagel as opposed to a latte. It was quite good - and I'm sorry that I didn't get a pic of the "wheel of bagels" that was over the space where you order! Got a Long Island wheat bagel toasted with jalapeño cream cheese and I was pretty disappointed. The cream cheese was sooo salty. Yes, I may be picky because I'm from NYC but I had to scrape off the cream cheese because of the salt. The bagel itself was solid but I was confused because I had no idea what a Long Island Wheat Bagel was -- so I was surprised to see sesame seeds. It was okay, not dry, but nothing special. I bought a dozen bagels at a discount for "Bagel Tuesday." I've had their bagels for more than 20yrs and for some reason they are now completely bland in flavor. My favorite is sesame and after toasting, it had zero flavor except for the seeds. Even the cinnamon raisin was flavorless! I suspect they stopped using salt in their dough, but I'm not sure. When you first walk into the shop, the crates on the lighting definitely catch your eye. Loved the aesthetic of the place and the chalkboard menu. There was a limited amount of indoor seating, but my friends and I found a table outdoors. I ordered the Sweet Rachel Sandwich. I ordered the same sandwich at Ithaca Bakery (sister company?) and the pumpernickel bread was rock hard, I learned not to make that mistake again. The sandwich had a generous amount of turkey in it and I'm a big fan of the Muenster cheese. The barista in the coffee area gave me the incorrect coffee order, but claimed it was correct. She was not interested in remaking my drink correctly so unfortunately, I just threw the drink out. A couple friends also had errors with their sandwiches and one order came out 20 minutes after the rest of ours. Took an adventure to Ithaca this past Saturday as my partner had never been! I knew Collegetown Bagel was on our must-eat list, and I am glad we headed here for lunch. This location has great outdoor seating for Covid times, and of course the options are plentiful. 30+ sandwich varieties, alcohol, coffees, pastries, grab and go - whatever lunch food you need, this CTB location has it. That being said, if a bagel cafe could be personified as chaotic evil, this is IT. My anxiety was through the roof from the moment I walked in to the moment I was enjoying my bagel sam on the sidewalk with my pup. There's approximately 40 different pieces of signage all vying for your attention. Four different places to order or pay or order coffee drinks or order booze? YES! Unreadable menu? You bet. Panic ordering? Of course. The staff was pretty preoccupied with socializing with one another as opposed to providing direction, but I will say that I enjoyed my tuna melt and everything came out super quick. I wouldn't recommend the rosemary salt bagel with the tuna melt, though the sodium explosion did give me the boost I needed to get through out next planned hike. Overall, a good respite from the more crowded Ithaca commons restaurants and lots of nice shade on a sunny day. read more

As a resident of the downtown part of the city of Ithaca, New York, I have historically frequented both this location and the previous downtown location, more often than the collegetown location. The locations have the exact same quality of food, their bagels are freshly boiled in the early hours of the 24 hour day (I briefly worked for them), and they have reliably friendly service. They are quick to prepare food, but are often overwhelmed with orders, especially for pickup. My favorite way to eat a bagel will perhaps always be toasted with butter, which is easy enough at home, but they also have multiple kinds of cream cheese, and multivarious specialty sandwiches, on bagels and other bread. My favorites of their bagels are the cinnamon raisin bagel and the spicy Italian bagel. My favorite of their bagels are sandwiches is the Brooklyn bagel, which is egg and bacon, with an option for cheese. I also particularly like their pizza bagels and one of the non-bagel sandwiches that has goat cheese. They stock "Dirty" potato chips, and many other high-quality brands. When you buy a dozen bagels they usually remember to provide freezer bags, but it doesn't hurt to make sure. read more

Wanted to cap our trip with a good breakfast bagel sandwich. I'm not usually prone to anxiety but the ordering system has left me with lingering jitters. I won't go into it because others have included the details in their reviews. I ordered the California Sunrise sandwich with a Vanilla Latte and my partner got the Lox. After ordering we had a wait (yes it's busy but we anticipated this). When I received our items I noticed how tiny my packaged sandwich was. I opened it to find the main ingredient (eggs...) missing. I went back in and waited behind 4 parties in the ordering line to notify the girl taking orders. She was nice and confused that such a mistake would happen. She spoke with the sandwich makers and let me know they were fixing this. I noticed they could've just thrown in a fresh egg into my bagel but instead remade the whole thing. I feel like they were mad at me for their own mistake. Not only did I get a worse off sandwich (stale bagel, no flavor, flat overcooked egg), but it had a sizable piece of ham in it. I'm a vegetarian but not as strict as my parents so I didn't go back to address this as the first round of mistakes was unpleasant enough. I loved everything about this, from the friendly staff who drew me a map when I asked where a post office was, to the cool fixtures and ambiance. The ordering system can be a little confusing, but they have good signs pointing out where to go for drinks vs food, and they can ring you up on one ticket even if you go to multiple registers. I had a pizza bagel with pepperoni on a rosemary salt bagel. Woo that bagel! I would have liked there to be a little more cheese to cover the good quantity of sauce on it, but the bagel was delicious and held up well as I ate it about an hour later, during my drive home. I also got a specialty drink there, and while I cannot remember what precisely it was, I remember liking it. The bathrooms are a joy for their inclusive signs and the very instagrammable wall paper. Not that the selfie game is alone a reason to visit. Stopped in for a quick bite on our way up waiting for our campsite to check in. Good but not great. Got the gluten free bagels which are just udi bagels. I was hoping they'd make their own. We got the Zoe which is chicken salad with cheddar, tomato and lettuce (on the lef,t the closed bagel) and a simple tuna melt with Swiss (open faced on the right) Customer service was great and everyone was very friendly. I was looking forward to starting my morning at Collegetown Bagels, but the bagel I had this morning wasn't nearly as good as the ones I used to have here and at the Collegetown location on College Avenue years ago. I ordered the Nova Lox and Cream Cheese on an everything bagel, but the bagel was tough and chewy, without that classic crunch on the outside and soft on the inside texture that every bagel lover craves. I can't remember the last time (which might actually be never) when I actually didn't want to finish a bagel, and that's saying something. As for the toppings, the cream cheese was nice and creamy and the lox was good, but when it was brought to me, I was told that they were out of capers. Now I'll certainly live without capers, but you're a bagel shop, so how do you run out of a classic ingredient and not bother to tell someone when they order? The coffee's good, not particularly strong but it'll get you going. Everyone's tastes are different, but if you're expecting a 'downstate bagel' (or a Bethesda Bagel from DC), I'd suggest ordering something from their pastry case to go with your coffee. read more

I think it's a good place for just for bagels or a healthy wrap, but nothing more. I'm impressed by all of the menu options, lots of bagels and veggie-friendly options. I chose to create my own veggie wrap - hummus, vegan chicken salad, portabella mushroom, avocado, and veggies. The wrap was good, but I couldn't taste the vegan chicken salad. It got lost in the wrap. I know I got a bunch of toppings, but $15 is a tad bit expensive for a wrap in Ithaca. My fiancee got egg and ham on whole wheat, which he was less than impressed with. No idea how fresh the egg patty was, reminds me of the one from Dunkin Donuts. WORST COFFEE I've ever had. I have no idea how old that coffee is, seriously don't get. You've been warned.
