I had dinner plans with friends to go to a Nicaraguan restaurant but that restaurant's hours were different than expected and we had a last minute change of plans to Rasoi. I've never had Indian food and I was super hungry and also reluctant to try cuisine that I never had. My friends suggested I get the chicken tikka masala and the garlic naan. Holy smokes, it was so good! The portions were very generous, and enough for me to eat both the tikka masala and the naan the next day. The flavors were strong, but delicious. The masala was a little spicy, and this coming from someone who eats spicy food regularly, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. The table also ordered tandoori chicken and samosas. Things I love: Lamb Rogen (sp?) Josh Chicken Tikka Masala Garlic Naan Chai Masala (mmm!) I have only been here maybe three times tops so I can't really comment on anything other than those times. Oh and it was voted one of the most romantic restaurants in St. Louis, I think. I can see why. The interior consists of reds, oranges, purples, and other warm-hued color variations. The lighting is just right. The decor is modern but not too wacky. And of course the food. In the wintertime slightly spicy Indian food is like comfort food to me. We stumbled across Rasoi while walking down Euclid one evening. We thought it looked interesting after peaking in and seeing the vibrant decor. Since we had not had Indian since we moved here, we decided to take a chance. We typically enjoyed Indian cuisine about once a month when we lived on the east coast. I had the Chicken Tikka Masala, the wife the Lamb Rogan, with a samosa appetizer. I thought the Masala was pretty decent and well balanced. However, my wife did not care for her entree. She felt it was overly spiced, to the point it completely overpowered any presence of the Lamb. This, and the fact it didn't settle well over the course of the evening, made her believe the meat was of poor quality. I can't say I enjoyed the service. Our waiter was rather surly and seemed like he didn't give a crap about his job. Really, if you don't like being a freaking waiter, get another job. Don't take it out on your customers. I would give it four stars, but cut it down to three for the service. My wife recommends only two. read more

I come here all the time for their weekend buffet, and have never been disappointed. It's usually a rotation of a variety of foods, but most of the options are delicious. Their naan is fresh, hot, and soft, perfect with their creamy chicken tikka marsala. I especially like their kheer, which is sweet and creamy and a perfect end to the meal. Price is reasonable for the food you're getting, and you can always go to Forest Park afterwards to walk off the meal. read more

Found a couple of classmates that love Indian food as much as I do. After hours of clinicals, we came here and made it just in time for their buffet. What I hate about CWE is their parking, it's annoying as hell! But ok, back to the review... Ranoi is super chic with its vibrant colors and beautiful decor. You walk in and the smell just makes its way up into your nasal cavity stimulating those neurons that trigger those happy good feelings. Me and my husband had previously enjoyed an evening meal at Rasoi and it was the best. So we decided to invite our family to enjoy the experience yesterday evening July 13, 2019. Everybody enjoyed themselves and the food was great. The servers are so friendly and give really good suggestions with the menu. Another good find in the CWE. I'm not really a connoisseur of Indian food. I've had a buffet and Rasoi's food a couple times. That said, this p;ace is very good. Indian food can be overwhelming with spices for sure, but from what I've tried at Rasoi, I've been satisfied. Many people rave about their dessert pudding, I didn't find it particularly good, but to be fair I haven't found many that share that opinion. I think to enjoy Rasoi you have to A: like Indian food and B: have a lot of money. I don't and don't. Rasoi is a gorgeously decorated, swanky little spot in the Central West End, where you can experiment with Indian food at their ever changing lunch buffet. Both times I have been to this place, someone else picked up the bill before I even had a chance to look at the price. I wish I could say how much it costs to eat there, but I have no idea. What I do know is that the last time I went I didn't care much for the buffet. So, this time around, I had a look at the menu to find a less adventurous option. Turns out, at Rasoi an order of Chicken Tikka Marsala was going to run me FOURTEEN DOLLARS. Ridonk. It shouldn't come as a shock that I opted for the buffet again. This time around I actually enjoyed the curry chicken and fried vegetable thing (see, I know nothing about Indian food). They have an incredibly fresh mixed green salad which is also enjoyable, but everything was pretty forgettable and I kept thinking "I would kill someone for a burger right now." People keep telling me I need to go to House of India before I close the door on this type of cuisine...but I've gotta be honest...it'll be a long time before I decide to brave it again. read more

Rasoi is a sit-down restaurant, yet it seems like everybody on here has gripes about to-go orders. I didn't have any complaints. Our server was a charming, pleasant indian guy with a heavy accent... sort of added to the experience I think! We had a lot of fun, the food was delicious and the atmosphere was nice. I guess if you're questioning what type of Indian cuisine is offered, they try to cover all their bases... you'll get traditional Indian food, plus a few dishes that are more specific to particular parts of India. I went there for lunch. I ordered online. The food was horrible!!! Chicken tikka Marsala was stale, watered down, and tasteless. The chicken curry was watered down. There was one small scoop of each in the container. The weight of the entree came from the half pound of rice in the container. Both scoops had watered down , gross food. The food is ok. I'm not a buffet person, but for those that do, it has your standard required Indian dishes... You know the ones. I ordered the Vindaloo, and had to send it back because it wasn't spicy!!!! Also, it wasnt the normal Vindaloo sauce that you usually get, but isn't a negative, just different than expected. For those in the know, you know that's a no go. I also ordeted Keema Naan which man Indian places don't have, so that was a nice treat. That it tasted good was also nice. The service was ok, but a bit slow. Nothing egregeous though. The biggest issue that I think it suffers from is image. It tries to position itself as a 'upscale/trendy' place and it isnt. Places like that usually charge a bit more than family style places. Overall, if you"re in the area, it's an ok place to go. Pros: food is pretty good here, and I'd say if you're looking for a good Indian spot, this is not a bad one to try. I've had the Buffett and dinner and they both are good food quality wise. Cons: poor customer service here, they take a long time to get your order, don't refill water timely and move fairly slow. The food also here is slightly overpriced considering the small portions you get. Bottom line: good Indian food but don't expect stellar service or the best deal money wise. I've been here 4 times and probably will come here once a month, would come more often if it was a little more affordable. read more

It's 2021 and we have to do our part to protect our planet... especially with COVID and the increase of takeout. Rasoi really blew me away. Literally the best chicken tikka masala I have ever had [and believe you me, I've had a lot of chicken tikka masala]. Perfectly cooked chicken, not too dry, well spiced creamy sauce... I'm drooling just thinking about it and sopping it up with well-done basmati rice and flaky, buttery naan. Mmmmm... If it was just ctm and naan maybe it'd be five stars (food cart, anyone?). But the saag paneer was lacking in flavor, and there were random beef meatballs that weren't too good. I did have a delicious vegetable curry dish (can't remember the name) and tasty pakora. Could've used baigan bharta in place of the beef (???) or something lentil-y. Hostess took several minutes to greet (or even acknowledge) us. Service overall wasn't bad; it was well meaning but just a little clueless. Decor was kinda weird. Modern-ish, but a little like somebody was trying too hard to be trendy. I'm used to my Indian restaurants with older and more traditional decor, and I prefer them that way when compared to what Rasoi is doing. My lady had the chicken tikka masala, and she really liked it. You can't really screw up CTM, though, not anywhere I've ever been. I tried a lentil dish and I didn't like it. That probably wasn't their fault. Lentils are hit or miss for me... I keep giving them more chances because of how healthy they are. The server asked why I didn't finish when he picked up my half-eaten, and I told him it wasn't terrible, but that I had just made a bad choice. I made a point to say that I wasn't unhappy, but he insisted on making things right. He went into the back and came out with a mango Crème Brulée for us, on the house. That was a nice gesture, and was pushed this review from 3 stars to 4 stars. We will go back. It won't be our first choice for Indian food, but it was good enough. read more

Actually, it should get 3.5 stars. 4 stars for service! And 3 stars for food. The waitstaff were really great....a rare find in Indian restaurants. Mango lassi was good. Veggie samosas were really excellent! My friends said the meat-samosa was as good as well. A bunch of us tried the vegetarian combination platter (like a Thali). It came with palak paneer, daal, and a couple of other things. There was plenty of naan to go with the meal. Most of the food was pretty good in taste. The plate included a little kheer for dessert (mediocre taste). Other friends tried: shrimp with yogurt sauce (great), tandoori chicken (great). The alcoholic cocktails were supposedly awesome. There was apparently generous amounts of alcohol in the drinks!! We had a very good experience as a group of six people at Rasoi. highly recommended. read more

I'm going to start out by admitting that Indian food is very much a mood food for me. Because of this, I have adjusted my rating accordingly since I wasn't exactly in the mood for Indian when I came here. I went to Rasoi a year ago with my family, who are vegetarians, for a special celebration. The food was good but it wasn't very memorable. We ended up ordering too much food because my aunt asked the waiter about the portion sizes and he somewhat misled us, claiming that the portions were smaller than they actually were. Therefore, we ended up ordering more than we wanted. Other than that, service was good and our waiter was pleasant, refilling water in a timely manner. Considering the ambiance, Rasoi would be good for couples - dim lighting and everything. Their naan - oh lord help me. Despite my absence of lust for Indian food on a regular basis, I'm a sucker for good naan any day! And Rasoi has some good naan! We got the garlic and plain naan. Both were very good - especially the texture. Crispy and chewy. How good naan should be! Their vegetable samosas was just okay - I remember them being a bit smaller and less filled than I would have liked. Needless to say, I've had better. Rasoi has really good Indian food for STL, but if you've been spoiled like me and have had Indian food elsewhere as I've had in California, then Rasoi is okay. I feel like they're a bit overpriced for the food they serve in terms of amount and quality. The biryani I ordered was completely oily and tasteless. I had to throw it out there was that much oil in every bite. And I'm Indian and ordered multiple times from here before because I liked the food. I have been eating here for a while there is a significant dip in food quality. significant. The person I spoke with (male) during the evening -Took no accountability for the food and refused to take accountability for it. Incredibly rude over the phone and tried to blame door dash for the food the restaurant made. Has no basic understanding of door dash at all. this is very unprofessional and not ok. I do NOT recommend this place. try going to turmeric instead. better customer service and more accountability. im apalled by the way im being treated as a customer. The guy I spoke with ought to be fired for his unprofessional behavior this is not the way to speak to customers. so rude, no restaurant in the area would talk/treat customers this way. If they call and politely tell you that the food wasn't good ....a restaurant with accountability can apologize, either refund the money and/or give another menu item. If FAST FOOD places can do this, and other restaurants can do this, they can too. I've never been more aggravated before. I can't believe the sheer rudeness of the person I spoke with. This is one of the best restaurants I've tried in STL...not only for the food but everyone is so kind and personable. I'm not a huge fan of Indian cuisine but this was a birthday dinner request so.... but, it was fantastic. I told the waiter I was not a fan of spicy or heavy curry and he assured me he could make me happy. We started with a vegetable and meat samosas. Fried dough stuffed with veggies and the other had a spiced ground meat. Very tasty with very little heat but came with some head blowing sauces. My dinner mates both got the Rasoi vegetarian platter which included navratan korma, palak paneer, peas pualo and dal makhani ( you will have to look them up). According to the consumers of these meals "fantastic". The Naan (soft flat fluffy bread) was like a warm cloud, I could make a meal of it. I had the Tikka Masala shrimp, the sauce was heavenly, I dunked the Naan in it until I sopped up every drop. The shrimp were cooked perfectly. The service was excellent, the food was reasonably priced, I was shocked to see that there were only 3 other people in on a Saturday night at 6:30. Maybe it's a later crowed but if you like indian or you are not sure, try this place!! read more

This place is swanky. If I could, I'd decorate my living room in the bright, poppy colors like they have and be completely set. I will agree that this place is pricey, but it's worth it. Update! Okay, so a year later we went back to try Rasoi again. This time my boyfriend and I were taking his parents. Last time my boyfriend and I went on our own we were forgotten and didn't get our food for quite a long time. This time, we were hoping for better. Well, that didn't happen. After waiting about 5 minutes for a hostess to even come greet us (too long if you ask me considering we were the only people waiting to sit down) we were given a table. After 10 minutes, yes 10 minutes ( we counted) of not having a single person come offer us water or take our drink orders we gave up and left. Yes, a couple of times we attempted to get the attention of the waiter who was helping the table next to us to see if he could find out who our waiter/waitress was but he pretty much ignored us. I mean, we were just short of standing up and waving our arms around to be noticed, so I don't know where this waiter's mind was. Now, I don't know why we were treated this way quite honestly. My boyfriend and I look young, both almost 24 but we look 20, so maybe that's why we were just forgotten the 1st time? Didn't look like important enough customers? I'm not sure about the 2nd time though. We were all appropriately dressed (casual evening clothes) and we even saw a girl walk out in ripped up jean shorts as we walked in so I don't think it was our dress. We were polite despite waiting too long to be given a table. Honestly, I've completely given up on this place. I've never simply walked out of a restaurant like that before, and I wouldn't have, except it was the second chance we were giving them to impress us, because yes, a customer/client should be impressed by a business they are giving money to, especially such a "nice" restaurant.
