We really enjoy the Boro and used to go there often since we live nearby. Unfortunately, the prices have gotten absurd and increased by 30-40+% in just a few months (I should mention the original prices were high at baseline). I reviewed some of my old receipts to confirm my suspicions. Here are a few examples: Seasonal Tart: $7 to $10 (From 11/2025 to now) Vegetarian Quiche: $14 to $16 (From 3/2026 to now) Danish: $9 to $12 (From 3/2026 to now) Cruffin: $10 to $12 (From 11/2025 to now) Then there is a 3% "Sustainability Surcharge" These extreme price increases over such a short time period cannot be explained by inflation / cost of living etc. Unfortunately, we can no longer support The Boro and their business practices. read more

We had several overnight guests for Father's Day weekend! I wanted to surprise the crew with something special to start our day! I made a little trip to the Boro for their amazing pastries! I just love this cute little place attached to the Dixboro Project. You must get here early because they run out very quickly! They offer such unique options. My favorite is the cream cheese garlic croissant, but everything is fantastic! They also have such a cute little space for enjoying your delicious treat in their park nearby. I wasn't really sure what to expect at The Boro, but just know that it is a tiny walk up ordering counter with no inside seating. I was looking for a place to get some work done, but that's okay. The Boro is attached to the Dixboro House, which is a sit down restaurant. The Boro counter sells coffee drinks, pastries, to-go drinks, pizzas, and a few entree items. They have a lot of outdoor space for picnics. I was a little flustered because there was a small line forming and basically zero space to wait for your order. I got an iced latte and a spiral croissant, and kind of wedged myself into a corner to try to wait. As I was leaving, the line was stretching out the door - I'd highly recommend placing an order online for pickup! I got a picnic table all to myself and enjoyed the sounds of birds while I ate my croissant (delicious, although a little tougher than I was expecting) and enjoyed my latte (very creamy and smooth). I had no idea we needed reservations for lunch, so next time I'm in town and want to take my team out, I will call the restaurant beforehand. We would have to wait for a table for 35 minutes, so we opted to sit at the bar. Service was quick and quaint. We ended up ordering an order of fries with their delicious and thick garlic aioli, 2 pasta Bolognese, 2 burgers, and a mushroom pizza. The food came out impressing-ly fast given how crowded they were. Everyone on my team enjoyed their selections, my mushroom pizza was exquisite - earthy, but the chili oil that came with the pizza made the dish more flavorful. The gentleman at the bar on 12/16 that served us was excellent. I wished I got his name so I can call him out in this review. He knew the menu inside and out, gave us suggestions, and helped make our lunch out relatively quick. read more

Hi Boro Team, My Wife and I typically come for brunch every other Sunday. We got to know Rob, Lilly, and Abby (server). and most recently, Cassidy (kind person). As ex-bartenders when we were in our youth, we know turnover in restaurants is high but you should know they made us feel so special. Our last experience (11/16) was fine....food and bar service wise. New bar staff will find their way. The quiche with the mushrooms - excellent. The new burger variation - awesome. However, I have been stewing for two weeks about this visit. We waited at the high-top area for bar seats. The manager (we think) with fun hair color noticed I was waiting at the patrons bar service area and offered us the high-top table and asked us if we wanted to stay in that area. They took our order but within minutes, two bar seats opened up. I asked said manager if it would be a problem for us to move to the bar with the response of "No problem at all." The waitress in that high-top area didn't take our drink order (gave us water and menus). I had to tell the bar runner those drinks dying on the service bar window were ours...which caused a little staff confusion. The hostess approached us when we got settled at the bar and asked us to pay for the drinks from the high-top area. Not a problem. But $27 for an Aperol Spritz and $20 for a Negroni? GET OUT OF TOWN!!! We've never paid that much for drinks at your establishment. We dine out every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to various 3 to 5 star reviewed Metro Detroit area restaurants. Drove by the DP all the time and finally decided to make reservations for brunch. The restaurant is absolutely gorgeous and a bit breathtaking. We were seated in the room, farthest to the main entrance, and could see the lake from our table. Service from the moment we walked in, till we walked out, was outstanding. We ordered a ham and cheese croissant, duck hash, side of fruit and cappuccinos. Everything was delicious but the dish that blew me away was the duck hash. It was like an explosion of flavors! This time Wagyu meat loaf was too salty to consume,overly mashed pesto potatoes were gummy,beans so so,cranberry bars delicious. I figured that my review needs an update as I've been back for lunch, dinner and the Dixboro house. Also the Maldonados have moved on! To keep their menu fresh - they've been bringing in local Chefs like Max of Pizza Replicator to help revamp the pizza menu and collabing with pastry chef Lena Sareini for the holiday pie/sampler offering. They always have great seasonal lattes, made with house-made syrups, as well. Most recently, I tried their juniper latte which was fantastic! Apparently they use juniper berries. Their croissants are still fire, but no morning buns anymore! It's still a great spot for a nice lunch or dinner or quick snack! I can't wait until it's summer again so I can sit out on the lawn and enjoy live music. read more

When we got our bill, we were charged for a margarita when we didn't order one. On top of that we were charged 3% "sustainably tax". This is essentially to cover what they pay the credit card company. We were charged this even though we paid cash. This is the LAST time we will be dining at the Boro. I LOVE the aesthetic and rustic vibe of this place. The Dixboro Project really did amazing job restoring the century-old barn while keeping certain elements from the original structure, such as the exposed 140-year-old timbers, gambrel vaulted ceiling, and original stone fireplace. The menu is simple but tasteful. The wood-fired pizzas and bakery items are SO delicious, you'll want to take some to-go for the next day! This is my favorite pizza place! I've been hooked on their mushroom pizza ever since the first bite. I love the thin, slightly charred crust, slightly sweet cheese and cream sauce, and savory mushroom and mushroom topping. This pizza also comes with chili oil on the side to sprinkle over your slice and give it a little kick! I didn't realize this till after a few visits, but there are actually three 'restaurants' in this location. The Dixboro Project is specifically for their tasting menu, the Boro is a little more casual, you can order things like pizza, steak, pasta, etc., and there's a pick up spot where you can quickly pick up delicious pastries (made by a Michelin star chef!), coffee drinks, and takeout orders. You can't go wrong with any of their pastries. My favorite is the nutter butter sandwich and almond croissant. Their drinks are also fantastic. During my last visit, I ordered the grapefruit spritz mock tail which was delicious and refreshing! The location is so gorgeous. It feels like a green retreat space outside the hustle bustle of Ann Arbor. The patio is beautiful and overlooking hammocks and a small dock next to a stream behind the building. I appreciated the picnic tables strewn around for those who want to eat their pastries or takeout outside in a quieter location and don't necessarily need service. Love this place. I've been wanting to try this place for a long time and finally got around to it. They have a large deck with umbrellas and heaters plus a more remote area with picnic tables. We ordered coffee and pastries at the small area with the To Go sign. There's only room for about 3 people in this area so they offered to bring my latte to my car if I was parked in a numbered parking spot along the building or they would give me a number and I could wait at a table on the deck. We got an almond croissant and a chocolate croissant and they were both very good and HUGE. It was a bit slow for us to get our drinks (a latte and a hot chocolate) but they do use Roos Roast coffee in their cafe drinks so they were good. Others in our party got a margarita pizza that was a bit slow to arrive but looked and smelled great. They have an accessible ramp near the handicapped parking space. Unfortunately, they have a hay bale and pumpkins blocking the last part of the ramp so it really isn't accessible to people using walkers and wheel chairs. read more

TLDR: beautiful restaurant with a great concept, great eats, great drinks, and great service for a high price tag I loved the ambiance of The Boro. It truly was beautiful and everyone from the valet driver to the server was so welcoming. The food was also amazing and you could tell they had thought out the flavors of every dish. Drinks: I no longer remember the name, but I got an apricot honey drink that was light and sweet (but not too sweet). I enjoyed it! (4/5) Appetizer: Bluefin Tuna Tartar was good, nothing too spectacular but I really enjoyed the sesame cracker (3.5/5) Pizza: The Mushroom pizza is a must-get. The crust is slightly charred too much but the rest of the crust is amazing and the mushrooms are roasted to perfection! (4.5/5) Scallops: the scallops themselves were so tender and paired perfectly with the sauce. The kale and risotto was a nice touch! I would say there are a bit too many pistachios though. Price is a bit steep at $40 for 3 scallops (4.5/5) Burger: Not mine but from what I had, it was good, but nothing outstanding. I quite liked the bun (3.5/5) Pasta: The verde was aesthetically beautiful and had a great mix of flavors. It's great to share or to get as your own entree! My husband and I went to the Dixboro Farmers Market the other night and decided to check out The Boro for dinner in their outdoor seating. I knew that the outdoor seating was technically part of their "online ordering" system (so you order online and they bring it to you outside) and, since it was Friday, it would probably be a little busy so I ordered before we got to the restaurant to save time. It was about a 50-60 minute wait so we decided we'd head over anyway and sit by the water and enjoy a drink while waiting. There are picnic tables in the field behind the restaurant and a few over by the creek that runs behind the building. The picnic tables are the folding kind so they're a little on the smaller size but you can pull a few together if you have a larger group and it's the perfect place to catch up with friends or have a date night. Since our order wasn't ready we went inside and got a few beverages to go and waited at a table by the water while getting some fresh air. It was lovely! They were definitely slammed that night and, while getting seating wasn't an issue, our order definitely took a little longer than planned and at that point it was getting dark and I was starting to get eaten by mosquitos, so we decided to take our pizzas to go once they were ready. We had had enough outdoor time waiting so it wasn't a problem although next time I'll be sure to time it better to enjoy the full meal there. Although the pizzas held up great during the ride home. Their outdoor/carryout menu is a more streamlined version of their full, indoor only menu so we ordered a couple of pizzas and dessert. My husband did the sausage and I did the mushroom and they were both delicious! The mushroom in particular was really unique, with a smoked gouda cheese and a drizzle of maple. It was a nice sweet contrast to the salty cheese. And the woodfired crust was excellent! I had a slice of my husband's sausage it was also quite tasty but the mushroom was my fave. For dessert he got the tiramisu and I got banana cake. I took a bite of his and immediately was jealous. It was so good! Creamy, a hint of chocolate and coffee. YUM. The banana cake was great but the tiramisu was the winner for both of us. We'll definitely be back (I've been dreaming about that pizza since I finished it!) but I think we'll skip a weekend visit to cut down on a bit of the wait time. read more

After seeing much social media hype, my partner in crime and I finally made our inaugural trip to The Boro recently. Located conveniently on Plymouth Rd in the small town of Dixboro, it inhabits a historic barn that has been on the property since the 1880s, and used as a restaurant since 1934. I love seeing the fusion of the older structure and space but with an open and modern feel, blending the unique history of the property with a modern interior. We debated on where to eat (inside vs out) and decided on inside when we learned we could order from a longer menu. Once seated with the friendly and prompt service, we ended up choosing pizza (available outside to sit at any of the many picnic tables situated around the exterior of the barn). It's truly hard to go wrong with pizza in my book, and I'm always game to try one at a new restaurant when I visit. Within short order, our pizzas had arrived - mushroom for me and prosciutto for him. True to form, we shared with each other (the better to Yelp about, my dear!) and both decided that the mushroom pizza was the winner there. Savory and hearty mushrooms in a cheesy sauce covered a homemade, bubbling crust - all which made for one satisfying slice of pizza pie. Limited parking. Spacious dining area, indoors and outdoors. The wait at 7pm on a rainy Tuesday was 45-60 min and they do not allow customers to call ahead or make a reservation. If you are willing to wait, the food is worth it. If there's room in the bar area, they will allow you to get a drink while you wait for your table. Food was high quality, fresh, and worth the price. Portions, however, were small, not generous so don't go intending to share an entree unless you order a pizza. There is a friendly sommelier on staff that will make wine recommendations and a friendly bartender that makes craft cocktails. The acoustics indoors are awful. Lots of distracting chatter bouncing off the walls and ceiling. It was difficult to hear people at my own table of four yet I felt like I could hear conversations at tables across the room. read more

After a recent visit, I was so enchanted with the bakery/sandwich/pizza shop that I just had to do additional research. I did not realize that the owner of this shop also owns Sava and Aventura, two of my favorite places in downtown Ann Arbor. Nor did I know that this was a long-planned project. It is no wonder that the food I tasted was simply outstanding. On the day of the visit, it was cloudy and cool. Only two guests were allowed in the shop at a time (or one group). As such, all of us waited in a line down the wood steps, into the parking area. When it was my turn, I was lucky to be behind someone else so that I had time to scope out the pastry case and baking area directly behind. The case was filled with cakes, cookies, muffins, croissants, and desserts. Yelp reviewers had suggested the morning buns, so that was on the top of my list. As well, I ordered the chocolate croissant, two delicious items for breakfast. The person behind me recommended the almond croissant so I ordered that as well. I'm usually not a fan so I was curious. The sugary morning bun was a contrast of textures, tender and crunchy, reminding me of a hybrid of a cinnamon roll and a kouign amann. It was even better than expected. The almond croissant was flaky with a liberal amount of almond cream filling, topped with slivered almonds and powdered sugar. No wonder almond croissants are my sister's go-to and so highly recommended. The chocolate croissant was excellent, as well. If I could have a product wish, it would be for them to offer pain aux raisins. It has been a long while since I had a good one. Along with that, I ordered the orange roll and banana cream pie. I expected the orange roll to have a more pronounced orange-y flavor, and along with the cream, to taste like a creamsicle. While it was good, it was not spectacular. What was spectacular was the banana cream pie. Perhaps spectacular was too tame of a word for this dessert. The dark chocolate shortbread crust was sensational, complementing the marvelous sweet caramel and banana filling, whipped cream topping, and chocolate shavings. I would have exhausted a thesaurus to come up with the right descriptors for this dessert. Toques off to the chef for this creation. I was, however, less successful with the savory aspects of the menu. The breakfast croissant (egg/bacon) was incredibly greasy and the quiche was just okay. Service was warm and attentive. read more

I really wanted to love this place. After coming a couple of times, this place is beautiful. Love the location and how amazing the interior design is. There are two places in one here - The Dixboro Project and The Boro. The Boro is the coffee shop located on the right when you're looking at the restaurant. Cute coffee spot with outdoor seating. Be prepared for long waits. I have encountered this every single time I have come here. During our last visit, we got two lattes and the salmon bagel. It took about 30 mins. I have gotten the bagel with smoked salmon before. This time, it was cold. The salmon should be cold, but not the bagel. After patiently waiting and receiving the cold bagel, I went inside to let the staff know. They told me it probably sat for more than 10 mins or so and that's why it's cold. Someone must have not seen and that's why it's cold. Pretty disappointing that's the response I got when I mentioned that I get the same thing every time I come and it's warm. Thanks for the cold bagel and lack of customer service. Unfortunately, we spent $40 for two lattes and breakfast sandwiches for that customer service. Since it's been hit or miss coming here, I'll probably give this place another try for ambience alone. read more

Our waiter, Jacob, really knew the menu and bent over backwards to check on us, fix things that didn't meet our expectations (the Bloody Mary was too spicy for my Dad and my Mom wanted a fork instead of a spoon for dessert), and refill our water glasses before they ever got empty. I love how the owners modernized the interior from the Lord Fox...the floor to ceiling windows afford a spectacular view of the trees. First time dining in as it is right around the corner from home. The parking lot always appears to be full, which is a great sign. Very elegant space with lots of clean lines - overall, very pleasing to the eye! The host staff is very synchronized, execution of seating and coordination with waitstaff was perfect. The entire team is very organized, helpful and knowledgeable. This alone made the entire experience so much more. The food was perfect. The pumpkin soup was piping hot and so satisfying. If my review was based solely on the mushroom pizza the way they used to make it, I'd give them 10 stars if I could. (Note to chef, PLEASE bring back the black garlic on this pizza! It is divine!) For gourmet pizza I'm not sure you can get a better pizza than here. For the restaurant experience, I'd give them 3-3 1/2 stars based on service and the flavor of the dishes being served. My husband has been a huge fan of everything we have eaten here, all of which are pictured with this review. I, on the other hand, have only really enjoyed the pizza and the pork belly. Don't get me wrong, the food is cooked perfectly! However, in my opinion, most menu items lack a special something. I read one review that said everything was too salty. Perhaps the cook went overboard after reading that and reduced the amount of sodium content too much? We had to ask for a salt shaker and apply liberally when we are at the Boro. My daughters both ordered truffle pasta bolognese, and my daughter likened it to an expensive Hamburger Helper. After tasting it, I couldn't agree more, though after adding more salt, the flavor improved dramatically. My husband loved this dish, by the way, as well as his scallops, which he said were some of the best scallops he's had since we were in Charleston and they were fresh caught that day. Anyway, we all agreed that my cod was visually appealing, was cooked perfectly, but was in desperate need of more flavor, and not just from salt. I can't put my finger on what was missing besides flavor. The potato puffs got mixed reviews. I thought they were ok with the sauce from the pork belly. My daughter liked them with the hollandaise sauce they were served with, and my husband thought that they were "interesting" and liked them plain, but thought they would have been better had they been served with a different type of dipping sauce. The pork belly was the superstar of the night and was exceptional. I made sure to get a little of everything that was on the plate with each bite, and the combination of flavors was exquisite. As far as eating in the restaurant goes, the ambience is nice, though quite loud. Service was decent. I wouldn't mind coming in just for dessert and a drink, and perhaps enjoying them on the wraparound porch on a beautiful evening. We had a really nice pizza meal here using the order for outside picnic area dining. The full venue is also known as the Dixboro Project which is the inside farm to table fine dining portion of the business. We ordered a few pizzas to share among a 3 generation group and it worked well. Space for the youngest to play on a tree swing and picnic tables spread out on the rural lawn area, near the trees for shade if you need it and comfortably far from the parking and arrival area for the main restaurant. They do bring your food out to your picnic table for you but you clean up with a trash station before leaving. It seems to work well as the yard with tables were all quite clean, when we arrived as well as how we left it. Wow. What an amazing night! We decided to just order from the 'to share' and 'dessert' menu and we LOVED everything! The Oysters were incredible fresh and delicious. The pickled veg was so refreshing and made my tastebuds come alive. The Bluefin Tuna Tartar was unbelievable. I can't rave enough! Our desserts were the best I've ever had in my life. The passion fruit curd was so tangy and sweet a perfect blend! The chocolate tart knocked it out of the park. Not too sweet and just right! The service was impeccable!
