Most other places say their machine for old cars is 'broken right now' because they don't want to do them, but not Raul's. I've needed repairs a few times because it's an old Jeep with old car problems. They're up front about what it needs and they've always fixed whatever needed fixing with no issues. I needed a smog test to register my car and went to their service center as it was just down the road from the Santa Paula DMV. Raul and his team are outstanding. Not only did they get me right in for the test they went above and beyond when I mentioned that the tire light was coming on. They offered to check that out. But that's not all. They asked if I would like help to remove my out of state plates to turn in, and then said to swing back by after I returned to the DMV and they would put my new plates on for me and fill my tires to the right pressure. This is probably the worst smog station I've ever been to, do yourself a favor and avoid this place I was there getting my vehicle smog and a guy came in with the motorhome and some guy out of no we're started yelling to do that vehicle 1995- older it is $150 if it fails you still pay $150... And you have to pay another $150 to get it Tested Again he Said "SMH" I too have a motorhome an 1988 and I cannot believe the price to do a motorhome so I checked around in the area and Ventura they run anywhere from 60 to $70 not including the certificate which is around $25 what a rip off I will not be coming back to this place. read more

I just took my car here this week to do a smog check. It was my first time coming here and I am so glad that I did. The woman behind the counter was nice and funny and Raul came out and met me and talked to me for a bit, we had quite a great conversation while I was paying for my Smog, and all of the customers that were there were also very nice and friendly, and you could tell they were long time customers who loves coming here. I took my 2002 Silverado in for a smog check. He said it failed due to a number on the Cat. He's full of shit. He charged me and said it failed and sent me off. I drove to fillmore to another Ramon check location and it passed. Seems fishy, so "F" this place don't waste your time or money here. If I could give this place negative stars I would. read more

I came in around 11am on a Thursday to do a smog check. I was in and out in 20 minutes with a passing car. The guy at the desk was very friendly. Look for a coupon in the Santa Paula Times too. The only discomfort is that the waiting area inside is very small, but it was bearable as the service was fast. I had no issues with the DMV recognizing this test facility. read more

Rosa, just wanted to say thank you for responding. I probably misheard and got the details wrong from my mechanic because I'm not a car person and don't understand all the lingo, but I do fully trust my mechanic, Concours Motors in Ventura. After it failed a smog test at Raul's they spent a full day looking at my car and running tests on it and couldn't find any smog issues or white smoke. I then took it to the smog center across the street, Thompson Smog Test Center, and it passed no problem. It was also not cheap to have my car evaluated after it failed at Raul's and I also had to pay for another smog at a different center, which is why I felt the need to post my experience in order to let any perspective customers know about my situation before they decided to take their car here. I have taken two previous cars to Rauls in the past and had no issues, so I was a bit disappointed as a returning customer. I was also looking at your recent reviews and it looks like I'm not the only one who has had a negative experience in the past couple months. I understand you are defending your business, but maybe a second look at the negative reviews wouldn't be a bad idea. read more

Stay away from this place and go to a smog only center. I gave this place a try since I was passing through this town.....Big mistake. I went by for a smog check, my car blew clean numbers, but failed due to modified exhaust. My exhaust failed because it was a dual exhaust and did not have a "Y" junction before separating at the ends. Makes sense since its part of California law. So I ask the guy how much to fix it? The cost was $760 just to add the Y-section onto my exhaust system. 760?? What a rip off. Seems like they failed me on purpose just to get me on overpriced repairs (which I walked away from). Oh yeah, I was the first on there when they opened and it took them an hour and ten minutes to test, while I saw two later than me customers finish before me (seems like shady work to me).....pretty much wasted my time. I'm sticking to smog only shops instead of can do repair shops. Don't get fooled into thinking you have to fix what these can do shops say for prices that are way overcharged. Not to mention they don't even give a free re-test after I get my exhaust fixed. Look out for additional fees that get tacked onto their original prices posted on their shop sign. Don't fall for their repair costs, they are too high. read more

I have always had a positive experience at Raul's Smog. My whole family has been taking their cars there for years. We pull up without an appointment and they take our cars in within 10 minutes and I am on my way in about 20 minutes. I would never go anywhere else. We are always treated in such a friendly way. I cannot understand why anyone would have a negative review of Raul's Smog. I wish all their customers would give a review so that people considering getting their smog done at Raul's Smog would see that most customers rate Raul's Smog highly..:) read more

I went in to get a smog check on my Ford Mustang today and the process was relatively quick. The issue occurred after the smog check was already completed. When it came time to pay, I used my fiancée's card. The woman who rang me up said that I couldn't do that unless I showed her his drivers license. Therefore, I proceeded to call him in front of her and he texted me a picture of his drivers license. I showed her and she told me that she would not accept it because his address on the drivers license did not match the address that I wrote down on the paperwork she gave me. Mind you, the address I wrote down wasn't from my drivers license or anything like that. I told her that I could give her my card number (I had mine at home since my fiancée and I share a bank account and I thought no big deal). She said no and that I could get cash from an ATM at the liquor store across the street. It was a super busy street with a crosswalk pretty far away. I had to walk about 15 minutes to get there only to be told they didn't have an ATM. So I had to walk another 5-10 minutes to go to a gas station which did. I was harassed by some guy in his car on the way, which isn't their fault, but just added to the experience. I completely understand wanting to ensure that I'm not stealing someone's card, but it seemed like she was just making up what would/would not be acceptable to use his card. And it just made for an unnecessarily awful experience. Not to mention, the car is in my dad's name and that didn't seem to be an issue. read more

I took in my '94 Camry and when it failed the first time Raul checked out the facts and figures and determined what the issue was and let the car run longer and tested it again--no charge. They are expensive and do not work on fixing isssues, just replaceing part's. Very little logical deduction at the lab. Had 3 oxegen sensrs and an EGR valve all fail over the week-end. They charged, or wanted to charge in excess of $800 for this work. I ran a can of seafoam throught the engine and clened the carbon out and all the issues disaperred. This was the secound vehicle they screwed me on. NEVER AGAIN! read more

I needed a smog test on a 2000 Lincoln and on the way to DMV I saw this location. I had to have a smog completed and instead of coming all the way back to Ventura, I stopped here. Boy, am I glad I did!! The staff was quick, very friendly and knowledgable. Raul the owner, once the mechanic spotted a cracked hose and pointed it out, had the hose replaced at a very low price as a customer service enhancement. I would reccommend Raul's for any work as they are honest and to find a smog location and car repair business that is up front and that wants to create good will for the city of Santa Paula, they are the best!! read more

My first test failed so I had my son do some repairs and replace parts and when I returned for a retest, the technician asked me who had done the repairs and he asked me for the receipt of what had been done. I told him my son did them and he refused to retest. He said, and I quote, "repairs have to be done by a certified mechanic." He went on to say that the Bureau of Automotive Repair wants to get old cars off the road so a receipt is required. I believed him and left. It was obvious he just didn't want to bother or perhaps because the cost to retest is lower. When I repeated what they had told me to friends and family, I was told that was incorrect information. I phoned the Bureau of Automotive Repairs to get the official requirements. I was told that ANYONE can make the repairs, that if the vehicle passes that is the key. I filed a complaint with the Bureau of Automotive Repair as the technician obviously lied and gave untrue statements, harrassed me about the receipts, which were not required, and in addition attempted to intimidate me. read more
