The storefront is small so definitely go slow when trying to look for it. You can schedule an appointment on their website or just walk in. Walked in at about 8:30 am midweek and Joe was behind the counter. No one else was there. He did our smog right away, and we were out by 8:50. I went to Smog 805 because Smogies down the road said that my Catalytic converter was failing and they don't do any work other than smog tests. Joe, at smog 805 did the test and was showing the same thing. New converters are $1500. When Joe starting working on it, he noticed that the problem was an Intake manifold gasket and a Oxygen sensor, not the Catalytic converter. My bill at the end was just over $500. Joe, with his honesty, saved me $1000. It is hard to find honest mechanics these days. I highly recommend him. I'm definitely going back to him. read more

Was pleasantly surprised by Joe at Smog 805. Went out of his way to find me a great deal on twin catalytic converters, then installed them at a very fair price. I was dreading repair costs of multiple thousands. My check engine light was on for the longest time and he fixed the issue as well. Highly recommend Joe and his shop. Didn't know what to expect with this establishment and I mainly chose them because they were the first one that responded to my yelp inquiry. My son's car keeps alarming at very random times, and I was at the very least annoyed as heck! The first fix was to adjust the sensitivity of the alarm and I was only charged a minimum (much lower than originally quoted), which I thought was very fair in accordance to the service rendered. It didn't totally fix the issue... I brought the car back and they removed the aftermarket addition to the alarm to see if it solves the issue. I was pleasantly surprised again that I was only charged an additional fee for services rendered. But... again, the issue was not resolved, so brought it back. In the end, they were able to diagnosed that the driver side latch is faulty and the fix is to replace it. The cost is much more than I anticipated and was bummed. They were able to make some minor adjustments to temporarily fix the issue, tighten the latch and I also sprayed it with wd-40 so it's not so sticky. That seemed to help a lot. The car still alarms once in a while but only about 3 or 4 times since! I still plan on getting the latch fixed by Smog805 once I get the budget to properly fix it. All in all, my experience with this shop was very positive and would recommend them to anyone looking for an honest shop that won't take advantage of you. read more

I made an appointment for a Saturday morning and I was in and out in less than 30 minutes. Great service all around. This will be my go to smog place. Also, was told to take my dmv paperwork to the Vons Kiosk to pay for my registration and get my tags. I went right after the smog and it didn't work. You have to wait 24 hours for the smog to upload to the dmv website. Went the next day and no issue! It was a great suggestion. Thanks smog 805! read more

A great experience! Unfortunately, I did not get the name of the technician, I should have. My car did not pass the first time, there was a cracked hose. The technician told me exactly what the problem was, and gave me a part number. I was able to procure the part, get it installed, and retest almost immediately. The car passed the second test. This was a welcomed change from other past experiences, where I was told "you didn't pass, I don't know why". I would totally recommend Smog 805... I've already recommended them to someone. Thanks to the young man who took care of me! One note... I did forget to mention that there is a $15 discount, if you tell them when you get there that you read about it. When I normally think of smog shops, I think of very dirty tiny places to go and wait on my feet while some strange person sticks different probes in my car. On the polar side of the smog universe is AUTO MASTERS SMOG. Yes there is a choice. I Choose to work with friendly, professional, very welcoming & clean professionals. I appreciate this smog location which has a clean comfortable waiting room with Pandora playing the hits & a clean restroom to use if I need it. I Choose to smog with them since they have over 14 years experience to handle ANY vehicle. Large or small, they smog them all. And yes, I gladly drive over 40 min from Simi to Ventura to have this experience. Great reason for me to also visit the Ventura harbor area. I especially enjoy working with Matt. He's very professional and explains things very well. He teaches you how to improve the chances of passing the test. It's optional to take your renewal form with you to the test. He knows how to log in the results even w/o it. They are very efficient too. Depending on the year of your car, the time is a lil different to complete test: 2000 or newer cars: 5-10 min 1996 to 1999: 10-15min 1995 or earlier: 20 to 30min RVs: 30 min Even if your car fails the test, you can go back within 30 days for a FREE RE-TEST. I had a catalytic converter failure and Joe gave me a lot of free advice, even though I was not using him for the repair job. He made sure that I had enough information to know that the repairs I was being quoted were fair. He only gets a small amount of money for his Smog certification, so I consider this use of his time giving me willing and free advice as a sign of customer service and good business practice. This is my 1st yelp review. In March of 2001 my catalytic converter on my 2006 honda accord was stolen. I had to find a replacement asap. I was referred to a muffler shop in oxnard. The shop replaced my converter for $2400. My smog check was due in Aug 2002. It failed the smog check. I took it back to the muffler shop and I was told it was not the converter. I took it to Auto Williams in Ventura and the mechanic did a cycle drive. Fortunately, it passed. Since my smog check was due this year i went to get it smog test and it failed. I did a drive cycle and smog test failed again. I went on yelp and saw the reviews on Smog 805. Joe did a diagnosis of my car and said it was my converter and perhaps my obdII sensors as well. I was expecting as much if not more for the cost and labor to replace the converter. I was surprised it was less. Smog 805 is the best and I would recommend it to anyone who wants a great service and cost for car repairs. I appreciate Smog 805 for helping me. Thank you Joe. read more
