Admittedly, the salon is a little more upscale than what I'm accustomed to (I'm usually a bargain-hunter when it comes to my hair) but I really wanted a high-quality shag haircut and I loved Val's work that I had seen on her Instagram page, so I decided to pay the slightly higher rate than I am used to-- and I am SO glad I did! I have long been looking to find a stylist in Austin, and have tried out many salons and stylists, but never seemed to find the right person...until now! I found Raven Row Salon on Yelp and, more specifically, Valarie. First off, coming into the salon is so relaxing. Everyone there is friendly, the atmosphere is bright and open, and there's always fruit-infused water (a tasty plus) available. The first appointment I made with Valarie was a haircut, and the next two were coloring treatments. I've never gotten my hair professionally colored and was apprehensive about it since I have dark Asian hair that is hard to deal with and easily turns red/orange/brassy, but decided to get it done after talking to Valarie about what I would like done, how many sessions it would take, etc. She went way above and beyond what I wanted/expected. Toni Bish has been my hair stylist for the last 1.5-2 years, and she is truly amazing at what she does. I would give her ten stars if I could. I've been seeing her for all over highlights and cuts on my straight, super-fine, hair. First of all, she is warm, friendly, easy to talk to, funny, and puts you at ease right away. Second, and most importantly, she really listened to my concerns and showed care for the integrity of my hair. I have super-fine, thin, fragile hair and while I always want to be super-blonde, I worry about the harsh chemicals and processing. Toni has always been receptive to this - she handles my hair with care, recommending steps we can take to achieve the look I'm going for while still treating my hair carefully and delicately. Plus, she's able to execute! My hair looks bomb, all thanks to Toni! Lastly, Raven Row is a gorgeous salon that will seriously make you want to drive straight to a plant nursery and buy all of the plants after your hair appointment! I've been with Toni for 3 years (followed her from another salon) and I'm slightly afraid to tell the Yelp world just how incredible she is at her craft. Toni is a coloring genius and has consistently given my hair the lift it needs with an expert balayage or baby lights. List of why Toni rocks: She intuitively understands my hair texture (wavy) and her cuts continue to keep my long bob looking fresh and full of movement. She has done more precision cuts when I ask for it. She even took beautiful care of my longer hair when I had it. Ok so this review is long overdue. Toni has been doing my hair for years. She's taken me from a TERRIBLE BLONDE (pic shown) to brown and slowly back to blonde in the healthiest way possible. Literally that picture was taken before her and my hair was so sad. I put my full trust in her as a colorist and she suggested I go darker to give my hair time. Now I am almost back blonde with so many baby lights AND my naturally curly frizzy hair has never looked better (the picture lighting does not give this hair justice). She's taken me through pretty much all the shades of blondes and always gives me an amazing outcome. I've had so many bad blonde jobs from pee yellow hair or even people who told me I could not be blonde (what?). Toni takes her time to 1. Keep your hairs integrity, aka keep it healthy. And 2. Give you an amazing color. So if you're someone who wants to go lighter or blonder she is literally the BEST at baby lights. Also she is the only person to actually give my crazy frizzy hair a nice blowout. I recommend x100000 and I don't think I can trust anyone else with my hair. read more

Absolutely beautiful salon and everyone there is so nice! Definitely a bit expensive which I can usually appreciate. My hairstylist was great, I just feel like it wasn't worth what I spent. The first time I went I left with wet hair which was super weird to me that's never happened to me at a salon regardless if I get it colored Its always styled for me or at least blown out. I went twice because I thought maybe the color was naturally tough to maintain however it faded super quick both times which was disheartening to spend so much money and not get what you want. read more

Idk what sorcery this girl does on my hair, but I swear I leave Raven Row with more hair than I had before. She's amazing! She is super patient and gives me product/styling tips every time. I went in for a haircut with Rae for the first time and came out with a strange, uneven, chopped up cut that's hard to describe....I think the photos say it all. I emailed Raven immediately when I got home and she could not have been nicer and more apologetic. She offered to personally fix my hair for me and was just all around fantastic. I unfortunately am super busy and was not able to keep my appt. with her and eventually just decided to suck it up and live with it. I went over all my all the problems that I've had with previous stylist, paid all of this money to walk out with my hair color looking just about the same that I came in with, wasn't close at all with what I was wanting!! I'm a big fan of Raven's work and I was super excited to check out her new spot. The salon is gorgeous and the front desk staff were helpful and sweet. Unfortunately, my actual appointment was tense, uncomfortable and disappointing and I'm not happy. I don't know where the constant miscommunication with Rae (my stylist) was coming from, but I legitimately thought about stopping the service a few times. I brought pictures for inspiration but she kept insisting the asymmetrical boy cut I was looking for was really just a bob tucked behind the ears. Okkkkkk. She was also pretty insulting about my hair color and although I made it clear I needed to cut off some majorly damaged ends; she basically made my frayed ends the focal point of the service. It only needs to be said once, if you keep repeating how damaged my hair is I'm going to assume you're having a go at me. There were two other stylists having lovely interactions with their clients which made the tension coming from my chair even more noticeable. The cut pretty much had to be done twice and I gave up in trying to get what I wanted. I was just focused on getting out of there with enough hair for someone else to fix. And honestly? Even if it was the most amazing haircut in the world, no one should ever, ever make you feel ugly during a beauty appt. I've gotten both cut and color from Toni twice now. She's seriously a hair wizard. She was able to take me to white blonde then back to my natural (I'm indecisive) better than anyone else who has done my hair previously. She's really good at understanding what I want from inspiration pictures and working with it while taking into consideration my low maintenance levels. I have straight hair and her cuts actually give more volume to my hair. Toni is the best! The salon as a whole has taken COVID precautions very seriously. Raven Row gave me a lecture on my partial balayage and how my dark hair could not be done in one session. I've been getting balayages done for five years. I'm 33 years old I don't need a lecture. I am paying for services. The color I want. As soon as I sat down, even in the dryer, shampoo chair, and then end. I told her I did not want brass/copper/orange. She said oh I'm putting in something to give it the ash look you wanted. I said how are you going to do that without bleaching it again and telling me (in the shampoo chair) you see brass, before I even see it. .I want my money back bc you say you can't do dark hair with a partial balayage timeline. But if she'd listen From before and during the process, it wouldn't take much longer rather than her trying to fix it in with shampoo in the shampoo chair and then after again in the actual chair. This is what hair color looks like when I do my moms hair from a box! I do not need more visits it usually only takes one and done. Dark hair you have to pull all the copper out and bleach longer then tone. I usually have to go to Washington to get my hair done, and the only reason I came back here is Bc they have done it before, bc it can be done. Clearly you're not dark hair friendly. It barely looks like I dyed my hair and when I do notice in the light it's brassy orange. Not an ash Carmel. You know what I just want my money back so I can fly back to wa and get it redone for 117 for both a cut and perfect balayage color as well. You've already said and proven you can't do dark hair balayage partials with your timeline. I drove an hour away for this madness and paid 198 almost in tears. The lady at the desk asked do you want to talk to the manager I said I already did she won't do anything but lecture me. And for the hair dresser to tell me I'd have to bleach it longer while in the chair still and I say yes do it.. she goes back and gets the manager and right then we are wasting time with a lecture. Just do what I'm paying for?! Why waste my time lecturing me about something that I know can be done. 198$! To walk out pissed off and not wanting to look at the brass in the morning! I should have just walked out as soon as she told me I'd have to keep coming back to get the color I want. read more

Stylist Rae Allen did my re-touched and unfortunately I was not satisfied. I did mention to her that my main concern was my gray hair and when she was washing my hair she was like it's all gone. Well it wasn't, right after my appointment I was able to see that my gray hair was not properly colored. On the positive side I did liked the color that she used on my hair.
