I visited the Ravenna Dental Clinic three times. -The first time was with Dr. Siew which I would rate as a 5-star experience because Dr. Siew was my dental hygenist who cleaned my teeth and my examining dentist. When he cleaned my teeth and talked to me, he was gentle, attentive, and caring. I asked him if he regularly cleaned teeth in the dental hygenist role and he said yes. -The second time I had Dr. Kim as my dental hygienist and examining dentist Dr. Kim was really rough on my gums as she rushed through cleaning my teeth. I'd rate this as a 1-star experience. But since I had such a fantastic experience with Dr. Siew, I asked for my next appointment to be with Dr. Siew as the dental hygienist and examining dentist. -The third time my dental hygienist was a UW graduate. The way he talked and worked felt he had just graduated college and had zero experience being a dental hygienist. After moving to the Eastside and having kids, it was difficult to find time to come over to Seattle on Saturday mornings to see Dr Siew and Dr Kim. I've been to their clinic for the last 15 years and it was great every time. They're both very patient and pleasant to work with. I like that Dr Siew is very conservative in his dentistry and does not push for any unnecessary procedures. I've been to many dental clinics over the years due to frequent relocations, and this is by far the best one I've experienced. Dr. Kim took the time to clearly explain how to care for my bridges--something no dentist had done before. He is kind, patient, and very reasonable with treatment costs. Honest. Very Conservative. They are watching a couple small cavities that haven't changed in a year on Xrays. They have not up-sold me on any treatments. They told me their goal is to conserve enamel. I think the negative review below is not characteristic of the care I received over the last 5-10 years. I have been with Ravenna Dental for over 3 years, and I am sticking with this wonderful dental office as long as I am in the King county area. List of highlights I love about Ravenna Dental: - Great team, from the attentive front desk receptionist, friendly and detail oriented technicians, to the wonderful two dentists (Dr. Diew and Dr. Kim). I really never had any problem or complain - I had my wisdom teeth removed by Dr. Siew and had a fast recovery. Also, they were super nice to fit me in for a quick check up on the same day when I had questions post surgery. - They never try to sell you services you don't need, and always give you honest opinions if you inquiry about a particular treatment. - Dr. Diew is fluent in Chinese, Dr. Kim is fluent in Korean. If you have friends or family who prefer communicating in either language, this is the dental office to consider getting their teeth taken care of. If I really have to pick out something, it would be parking. On a busy day, you won't be able to find parking in the front of the office or in the reserved dental office parking area. WORST DENTIST - LIED AND GAVE UNNECESSARY FILLINGS. ALWAYS GET A SECOND OPINION - DO NOT BELIEVE THIS DENTIST WHEN THEY SAY YOU NEED A LOT OF FILLINGS. On my first exam here after moving to the city, they told me I needed fillings on SEVERAL molars. They did one filling the same day. After drilling out my tooth, they held up a mirror to show me the hollow tooth in my face (first horror movie scene) Unnecessary and utterly traumatic even to someone who didn't have a pre-existing anxiety about dentists. After the filling I went to the bathroom and there were drops of blood on the bathroom mirror (second horror movie scene). They told me to come back as soon as possible for several more fillings. Thank god I went to a different dentist for a second opinion. The second dentist said I don't need any more fillings and I probably didn't even need the first one. They also pointed out that this dentist had given me metal fillings which no one really uses anymore. A decade later and I still have not needed a single more filling of the several they insisted I needed. They wanted to drill out several of my molars! The filling they gave me is the ONLY one I've ever gotten, and I go to the dentist every 6-12 months for exams. I cannot believe how completely shitty it was to scam someone into getting fillings they didn't need. Fast forward to ten years later, the one tooth I did let them touch got a giant cavity INSIDE, under their filling, I ended up needing to get it extracted so now I have a $6000 dental surgery because of this shitty dentist who lied and scammed and gave me a filling I didn't need. Frankly I feel like I could sue them for malpractice. What a terrible terrible experience, I had perfectly good teeth and they ruined one and were going to ruin a bunch more. ALWAYS GET A SECOND OPINION - DO NOT BELIEVE THIS DENTIST WHEN THEY SAY YOU NEED A LOT OF FILLINGS. I am honestly shocked at all the positive reviews for this dentist. A recent High School graduate, I was told by my childhood dentist to get my wisdom teeth pulled. I knew that this was a necessary and common procedure and that it would be smart to have it done right away. However, I am also a complete idiot. I put it off for 4 years until, by order of girlfriend, I looked for a dentist nearby. Pure geography caused me to select Dr. Siew: I live 3 blocks away. His good reviews on yelp reassured me and so I made an appointment. The reviewers were right, in Dr. Siew I found a caring and thoughtful dentist in whom I had 100% faith. He explained everything and treated me like an intelligent person. Since there wasn't enough room in my jaw, I had to have my wisdom teeth removed. However, he said that he could do it in house and without full anesthetics. This was so different from my original dentist who referred me to an oral surgeon. Dr. Siew prescribed me Halcyon (a sleepy drug) to calm and reduce anxiety, and used local anesthetics. Thus, the recovery was so much shorter and easier. Furthermore, he prescribed Vikadin but since the surgery was so good, I've been surviving on normal Ibuprofen, pain free. Lastly, Dr. Siew made a follow up call, on Sunday, while on VACATION. He made sure I was doing okay and knew what to do moving forward. If only all doctors could be like Dr. Siew... read more

Small family clinic that I have deemed my official dentist. They are really nice and very helpful. Despite it being a small office, the wait wasn't any more than you can expect at a larger place. My dentist was truthful, which was wonderful. I have a ton of cavities between my teeth that don't bother me at all and are very small. At my old dentist they wanted to charge me a lot of money to have each and every one drilled and filled. At the Ravenna Clinic he told me that they weren't bad enough to drill, and that he had seen similar cases where the person went on for years and years with out ever having to drill. So, I'm taking my chances that this guy knows what he's talking about and taking better care of my teeth! :) I did have a filling done on one of my old fillings that was chipped. Again, I found out that my old dentist had done a crappy job and the filling should have lasted a lot longer than it did. I'm confident that now I have a competent dentist and it will stick. I also liked this place because they have later appointments, so if you don't want to take a lot of time off of work, you're set. read more

This is the best dentist I've been to hands down! I have only gotten work done by Dr. Siew, and he is amazing! I have never before had a filling done where I haven't felt the shot before hand, but some how when Dr. Siew gives me a shot, I can't feel a thing. He is super gentle and will definitely pay attention to any pain you may have or if you look uncomfortable. He genuinely cares about his patients, and I love that! I have really sensitive teeth and usually can still feel the drilling when I have fillings, so the second Dr. Siew felt me flinch, he stopped immediately to make sure I was okay, AND gave me another shot. We figured out that I just have really sensitive teeth, so 3 shots later, I still felt it because I had a "really deep" cavity. My previous dentist had messed up and put the filling over a cavity that kept growing and basically caused me a year of pain. Dr. Siew had to take out my old filling and put in a new one, and he did it all by causing me minimal pain and gained my trust! His assistants/ students he has working there are also very friendly and do a great job. It is a bit nerve wracking to have a student working on your teeth (just the polishing part) but, I haven't had issues and i've been to see them 3 times now. I love that they are open on weekends and are very flexible if you need to reschedule. I will definitely be recommending him to all my friends and family! read more

I would give it a 6 stars if I could. Dr Siew and Dr Kim have taken care of my and my family for a good number of years. We trust them a lot. They are very experienced and they also care for their patients genuinely. The office and the equipments are very clean and well kept. On a typical check up, I call to schedule an appointment about a couple weeks in advance. I go in and wait for a minute or so. An assistant will welcome me and get started with the cleaning and X ray. Dr will explain the conditions of my teeth and suggest how I can do better. They will explain what needs to be fixed. They do a very thorough job of cleaning, and I leave feeling refreshed. I had a very good experience with my wisdom extraction with Dr. Siew. They gave me a sleeping pill before the surgery. No laughing gas, no weird iv thing, just a sleeping pill. I don't remember much about the surgery. I don't remember any pain or complication. The recovery was easy. My cheeks didn't swell up. Dr. Siew called me a couple times after the surgery to check up on me. The stitches came out as expected. I followed the doctor's instructions and recovered perfectly. One major reason that keeps me and my family going back to the office is the doctors' heart of compassion. They charge us the very minimum. They are really not in it for the money. read more

Dr. Siew is an excellent dentist. He is extremely diligent, conscientious, and careful to explain exactly what he thinks is going on. He will also take the time to explain and demonstrate good dental hygiene habits, and he uses helpful analogies and examples so that anybody can understand what he is talking about. He is also conservative, in that he does not seem to recommend unnecessary procedures, but he is also very good about explaining all the possible outcomes and what might be necessary down the road. There is nothing flashy about the clinic, although I was given an MP3 player and noise-canceling headphones during a particularly grueling procedure. Maybe that's impressive, maybe it's not. Either way, he offers good, responsible care, and what could be more important? Of course, if you're looking for a dentist's appointment that is like a pit stop in the Daytona 500, this is not the place for you. Dr. Siew is careful, responsible, and very serious about explaining things, and those things take time. I'm no dentist, but I'm pretty sure the few extra minutes are totally made up for by fewer appointment and procedures down the road. This is also not the place to go if you need to watch SportsCenter or The View during your cleaning. Just bring an iPod or something. read more

Review done in no particular order: - The reception area is "ok." I've been there a few times now and the area doesn't change too much. The magazine selection is pretty typical. They do, however, play some nice calming music for those who might be a little anxious. Unfortunately, the music is usually mix of classical and miscellaneous piano music. - Generally, your waiting times will be short, though that depends on the day as well. Saturdays tend to be the busiest so it is reasonable that you'll have to wait a little longer (for me, it's never longer than 15 minutes before someone "seats" me). - The assistants are very nice and courteous. In general, they have a good idea of what they are doing. They're also kind enough to tell you what they will be doing and how. Aside from the typical "do you floss" and such, they'll actually take the time to properly (and I do mean properly, though without the lecturing type of attitude ; more of a friendly tone) teach you how to floss, brush, etc. If the assistant is fairly new, one of the dentists will oversea the work. So you're in good hands. - The dentists are great as well. Like I mentioned above, the dentists really do care about your oral hygiene. They'll take the time to walk you through how to proper do this and that. They will go further in-depth if you show the interest and if they have the time to do so. During the cleaning, they'll also hand you a mirror to let you check out the work that they are doing. I don't know about you but none of my past dentists have done this. For the technology-inclined (if that's how you say it): - I feel like they are using some tools that are more advanced than other dentistries. They use mobile computing systems (i.e. tablets that aren't iPad) for each patient chair. That's for checking x-rays and etc. Their main computers are pretty sleek as well! - Some of their tools use fiber optics, thus eliminating the need for the huge lamp up top. However, they still use that lamp for general cleaning (e.g. polishing). They also provide sunglasses for those bright lamps and as a splash guard!! I've only been to a few offices that actually provide sun glasses!! I just wanted to mention that they do have better tools compared to other places. - The bathroom has motion activated lights and trash can. I know, it sounds a little dumb of me to mention that but when was the last time you were in a bathroom with motion activated lights? - Parking: a few spots in the back, though you'll probably end up parking on the streets since that's where most of the spots will be at. Street parking is free, so far. Overall, great place, excellent dentist-patient relationships. They take the time to explain things carefully, though not in a lecturing type of way. I hate going to dentist... but since I have dental insurance, it would be a shame not to use it. I went to Dr. Siew because he was highly recommended by my mom. I went in for my first visit, which was a routine cleaning. The cleaning went well and Dr. Siew showed me what areas needed to be worked on. Translation: I need a filling or two. The next time I went back for a filling, I was surprised at how painless and quick it was. Dr. Siew makes it a point to explain everything before he does it and ask if I'm feeling uncomfortable in any way. He always has time to talk to me and is very patient with all my questions. I started seeing Dr. Siew when I was in college. I had no dental insurance at that time. He was very willing to help as I hadn't had any checkup or cleaning for a few years. I could see Dr. Siew's passion rather than doing business although dentists in the country could make a lot of money. My wisdom teeth were pushing out and waited until after graduation, got a job and had dental insurance. Dr. Siew did the surgery for me. I was already 23 yrs old while people are suggested to have this surgery when they're young. It took about a week to recover, face was a bit swollen but the recovery process was easy. He would call a couple times after the surgery, on a weekend, and some time at night, to just check if I was doing alright. I'm sure he does this to all his patients. I introduced all my family members and a lot of friends to see Dr. Siew. He's been very helpful and attentive to everyone. For a few years I relocated to overseas, he still remembered me and asked how I was doing whenever any of my family members visited. I've returned to the country and I still visit him regularly. Twice a year for checkups and cleanings. Scheduling and all processes have been easy and smooth. Sometimes Dr. Kim would help clean my teeth when Dr. Siew has to help other patients who don't speak English. They're both very very nice. I am going to see them for the rest of my life unless they close their clinic. One downside about their clinic is I don't like street parking. It shouldn't be a problem tho if you schedule early morning appointments. read more

I've had nothing but great experience with Dr. Siew and his staff. Everyone is always friendly and welcoming. Conversation during exams doesn't feel forced at all like I have felt at other places. I also appreciate that Dr. Siew takes the time to review my x-rays with me and show me exactly what is going on. My mom and I have been coming here for, gosh, it has to be 10+ years. Dentist is the one doctor that I've always hated visiting. This is why I'm still seeing Dr. Siew and Dr. Kim after moving to California more than 7 years ago, which I do when I'm in town visiting the fam. They are both super friendly and patient. They explain everything very clearly and let you know what to expect. Dr. Siew actually extracted my wisdom teeth back in the days. And while my mouth and throat were in excruciating pain immediately after, I had no other complications and the healing process was very smooth. None of that horror stories I've heard from other folks. I was literally eating chicken 3 or 4 days after my operations (went to a bridal shower and there weren't a whole lot of mashed potatoes).
