Aguirre Auto Service - Welded clutch fork, "fixed" according to them

    Aguirre Auto Service

    (18 reviews)

This is *the* go-to auto service in Las Cruces…read more We had a 2014 Subaru Outback with some rough steering linkage issues. Aguirre Auto found the problem and had it resolved in a day. What was amazing is the depth of knowledge of your front office person (I missed her name). She is a gold mine! And her baby son is cool, too. Made me laugh. The technicians and staff at Aguirre Auto are amazing but I would tell any customer using their services; please be kind. Auto work and service is not easy but these folks... Awesome!!!

I took my 2008 VW Beetle into Aguirre's auto in mid April of 2026. I took it in to locate and fix a…read moreshort in the engine that was causing the battery to drain every couple of days. Before I go on about Aguirre's auto, I will state taht the quality of work this shop did was totaly horrible. This auto shop never took the time to honestly look for the short. His diagnoses was that the alternator was going bad and the cable that ran from the alternator to the battery would get hot and was drawing amperage from the battery. They replaced the alternator with a re-manufactured alternator, a new power box and new battery and $1800.00 cost. Aguirre's auto told me that this work would fix the problem and that they had eliminated the "short" problem. Two weeks after getting my VW back, the same problem started to occur and the battery would drain from one day to the next. They never addressed the problem of why the battery kept draining. Yea, Aguirre gave me a two- year warranty on it. Aguirre never honored the warranty. I immediately took the car back to them with the same issue I had originally taken the VW to them in the first place. After keeping the VW for two weeks without any word from them, I decided to call to find out the status. When the customer rep answered and found out it was me calling, I immediately sensed that she got nervous and proceeded to tell me that they found the problem which was the comfort control module, but were having a hard time in finding the part for the 2008 VW Beetle that was causing the "short" problem. So I told her to continue looking for the part and that I would search for the part on my own, which was the comfort control module, according to them. We hung up and ten minutes later she call me back and said she had confused my vehicle with another vehicle. She said that they can get the part and if I wanted the job done, she quoted me a price of $1600.00 plus. When she told me that, I brought up my warranty they had given me. She immediately told me that the warranty does not apply because she said it was a different issue. I told her, "negative" that they never found and repaired the "short", which was the original issue. I told her that it was a different "part" but the same issue. I knew I would have to pay for the part, but not for the labor. She kept disagreeing with me until she said, "you can talk to the owner if I want to". First of all, when I took my VW back because they didn't do the work right and spoke to the owner, he had an attitude that he was bothered because I took the car back. Secondly, he charged me $1800.00 plus the first time they said they had repaired the short. I didn't feel like talking to the owner because with his attitude when I took it back, I knew he would not honor the warranty. I won't waste my time with dishonest people who I feel that he did not look for the short, he just started replacing parts and charging for that service. I call these kinds of people, "CROOKS" at it's finest. I finally took it to another mechanic and the VW has been at his shop for two weeks because he's been checking out the electrical system with a fine tooth comb. Very honest, professional and couteous mechanic. So, for anybody who will listen, be aware of Aguirre's auto. He always has a sign by his place of business reading, "Hiring Techs". Mark Aguirre is always looking for tech mechanics. I know of a few mechanics that walked out on the job working for this outfit. This outfit does not care for the customer, but does care immensley for his pocket. I would highly recommend not to go there because believe me, there are far better mechanics in the Las Cruces area, than Aguirre's auto.
