My GMC truck had had a crank no-start condition since December. I had already changed the fuel filter, had the fuel pump replaced, I replaced the fuel pressure regulator. It would still only start with starting fluid. After several recommendations, I decided B&G sounded worth a try. I went in and spoke with the guy at the front desk (Warren?). He seemed reasonable. He said bring the truck in whenever you can and they'd do a 'diagnostic' for $60, so I did. Warren called the next day. He said they hooked the truck up to a code reader and there was a "stuck EGR valve" and they unstuck it; the mass air flow sensor was bad and there was a vacuum leak that they fixed (all true, I believe). He also said "someone" didn't tighten two of the spark plugs enough; (yup, that was me). I expressed suspicion that any of this was related to the no-start condition. He said, "Oh, it may not be. We just have to start here and hope that's all it is. I don't have a crystal ball." Huh? He further said that "the truck started right up this morning" so they couldn't investigate the no-start. Well, if the truck started right up, what they SHOULD have done is call and say, 'We haven't been able to duplicate the no-start condition. We did hook it up to a code reader and we found ___. We don't know if that's related to the no-start, but we do think it should be taken care of. It will cost ____; would you like us to proceed?' Instead, they just started working on the truck. Now Warren wanted me to give them the green light to fix the mass air flow sensor. I told him I'm not paying for an hour of labor for something I could do myself that's not related to the reason I brought the truck there. He said I was free to come and pick my truck up and that I owed $100 for the stuck EGR valve and the vacuum leak and the spark plug tightening. I reminded him we said $60 for 'diagnostic;' I thought he was going to call before they did anything beyond that. He then claimed the $60 was an 'estimate.' I was less than pleased but I did agree to pay. About twenty minutes later Warren called back and said they had "got the truck back together and it's not starting." He had no idea what was causing the no start but "you might want to bring a can of starting fluid with you when you come to pick it up." Oh, really? When I got there I frankly stated that I wasn't too happy because I didn't think we were any closer to solving the no-start issue than $100 ago. I reiterated my understanding of the fee arrangement. Warren showed some understanding though he didn't modify the charge. I was about to chalk it up to a lesson learned. Then the technician who had worked on the truck came into the lobby. He repeated that the truck "started right up" for him, that EGR valve was stuck, and that the spark plugs were loose and (okay, I get it, I'm ashamed of my shoddy amatuer workmanship :( ) and how it causes misfiring (it wasn't misfiring, it was idling rough, and I was blaming the MAF sensor and vacuum leak, my bad). The tech asked me why I suspected the MAF sensor; I advised (whether or not this is right) it was because the sensor next to the mass air flow sensor (which i didn't know the name of) kicked the truck into a high idle when plugged in. I asked the tech if I could show him. He grudgingly walked four feet over to my truck, told me that's the temperature sensor, and then told me that there was 'oil and soot' inside the air intake housing near the MAF and temp sensors, implying that I caused the sensors to malfunction with my poor quality work habits (again, I should be ashamed of myself). I told him I cleaned the housing out with a t-shirt and rubbing alcohol before I put it back on, so I wasn't sure why there would be oil and soot inside. His response was to snicker at me to my face. I made a remark that they would be getting a wonderful review online (not my usual M.O. by the way). He said, 'Ma'am, there's no need to be rude when I'm coming out here on my own time to help you.' Now, I admit I lost it then (though I didn't use any profanity, except the word 'jerk.') I have never lost my temper with a mechanic before. Even if I was less-than-impressed with the result or suspicious of the quality of work or price I recognize it's a hard job, not always straightforward, it's dirty, nasty, and physically draining. I know many customers underestimate the difficulty of making a correct diagnosis; I try not to be "that guy." But they have to respect the customer, communicate appropriately, and explain reasonably. They were the most disrespectful mechanics (by an order of magnitude) that I have ever encoutered -- EVER! Someone who tells a paying customer, who already feels they got screwed into paying for work they didn't want done, that he's "on his own time" when it's the middle of the work day at his place of employment, needs a boot in his ass (metaphorically, obviously). I highly DO NOT recommend these cockroaches. read more

If you are female looking for help on vehicles this is not the place to go!! They are awful!! I took in my f150 for a rebuilt transmission. They lowered my front end to the point where my front tires were worping out! When I pointed this out to the old man Warren he told me I just needed an aligment. I got an aligment done and they told me (different company) that my torson bar was not placed back right. A few others mechanically inclined have all said the same thing. When I found I had a transmission leak,(2 months after it was put in) I was told yet again the front end wasn't right. B&G have refused to fix it saying they put it at factory standard and it was brought in that way. Warren is rude, talks down to you and has told me they don't want my truck back in shop even for warranty work. I'll have to find someone else for the transmission warranty. My car broke, the transmission completely quit working. It's an old car and they couldn't fix the transmission but they found a used one and replaced it. It took a couple of weeks but I was very happy, I just can't afford a new car right now. read more
