I came in for my haircut and style appointment on the first with Rachael. She was so friendly and made me feel so beautiful! The vibe of the shop was very lovely! Clean, welcoming and inclusive. There's a small boutique with lots of local business products and art all over. We weren't sure how the cut would look with my old grown out dye job but she absolutely slayed! As a matter of fact, I've told folks who recommended this place to me and they said they won't be returning. My daughter was having a bad allergy experience so was sniffling. They told her she couldn't wait inside for me to pick her up. When I got there to get her, she was sitting on the sidewalk outside on that busy intersection and I wanted to cry. You DO NOT treat ANYONE that way. It was the receptionist mainly but in general it was a bad experience and mediocre haircut that was over priced. I came in looking for a simple men's haircut and was helped by Tanya. I showed her a picture (see attached image) and explained what I was after in regard to my hair cut. I began responding to messages on my phone for work, and by the time I looked up the damage was irreversible. I am so, so disappointed in the quality of service. I ended up shaving my head down to about 1/8 of an inch because there was no other way. I had a big ass line in the middle of my head. It was wayyyy too thick, and the line didn't even remotely follow the contour of my head. Then, she tries to tell me it's the type of hair I had and that the photo I showed her was a model (with different hair type). Umm, no.. that is a picture of me a year ago. Same hair. You just F'd up. She proceeded to offer me hair fiber spray to "cover it up". What a joke. I walked in with 6-7 inches of hair on my head, and left bald. This review is not for Raw Hair Society, but for Lacey Reed Specifically, who works out of this salon. I found Lacey on IG in my search for a new stylist after relocating last summer. We chatted on the phone about my desires and per her request of what I wanted done, sent her photos of my hair 9 months ago. Lacey spoke very confidently about my desires.l and her ability to achieve it. Price and her rates were NEVER discussed at any time but I did view her prices on the Salon site and figured around $200 for what I asked for. What I asked for: A trim (my hair is long and layered), my roots dyed a shade darker than my natural color, and the color pulled down mid face, a small amount of highlights added in the length of my hair and it toned to correct the brass in my current hair. What I got: A haircut- straight across at the bottom- with some layering, half of my roots dyed a shade darker than my natural color and barely pulled through even to the grow out line, and thick chunky "highlights" throughout all of my hair starting at the root- especially around my face but ugly yellow streaks though out everything. The whole ordeal took over 5 hours. This is over twice as long as ANY other stylist in the last 3 years completing the exact same request. It left me completely speechless and in shock, afraid of confrontation about the disaster and to top this mess off; Lacey charged me twice as much ($400) as it should have been. Judging by her pricing listed on Raw Hair Society's website, what I asked of her should have been in the $200 range. In complete disbelief and desperation to get out of her salon and bawl, I paid her. I reached out a day later about hating it and she offered to "blend it down". I agreed but almost immediately regretted that as I doubted her competency in correcting my destroyed hair- and questioned how damaged my hair would be after her second attempt. I sent her a message explaining that I wouldn't be returning for a correction and requested a refund of the money I paid that was in excess of her listed prices. Lacey denied. I feel taken advantage of financially, and that my desires were completely dismissed. This is not Lacey's first time doing this as you will see in other reviews, and it was of my lack of research of other reviews that I went to her in the first place I do not recommend that anyone that likes their hair, go to Lacey. But if you like a stylist that charges a fortune to do the opposite of what you ask, she's your girl. read more

Sara listened as I explained at length what I didn't like about my hair and what I was hoping for. My curls still behave after over a month since the cut. I'm thrilled with that! The salon is a joy to visit. It supports local artists and sells their creations. They have clothes, cards, soaps and lots more. We did all these crazy colors the year of my wedding and somehow she still managed to get my hair back to a beautiful blonde for my wedding day without any weird stages of color in between.. she is a magician I swear! I recently received a beautiful haircut and color from Shylene. Shylene was great in explaining every step and checking to make sure I was comfortable with everything. She is a new graduate of a beauty school, but already has a great touch with her clients. The salon is bright and beautiful with lots of modern equipment. I love the first rate hair dryers! I went in to get my straight across hair cut into a V-shape. The stylist handed me a mirror to look at the back of my hair and I remember thinking that something looked off. It didn't look too bad in the moment so I paid close to $60 (including a 20% tip) and left. It wasn't until I got home that I noticed that my hair was extremely choppy and uneven. I called the salon and spoke to someone (I didn't get their name) about getting a refund and getting my hair fixed. The person on the phone said they don't usually do refunds, but either she could try to fix my hair or I could get in contact with the owner of the salon. The owner reached out exactly 24 hours after the incident and we scheduled a time to get my hair fixed. I was initially satisfied with my hair cut . My hair was straightened and styled so it looked good. After washing my hair I noticed that the ends of my hair were so thin you could see through them. I also had a lot of breakage for weeks afterwards (I'm assuming from the straightening. She got my thick hair pin straight in 5 minutes -- the heat was too high?). Months later I finally got the courage to get another haircut at HairMasters. The stylist asked me if I had cut my hair at home because it was so uneven. Honestly should have expected this because it is Corvallis, but it was a little overwhelming to walk into a place that has white dreads hanging out to be purchased. I'm talking a display of blonde only extensions, and some orange and platinum dreads. Like very obviously offering a bastardization of a Black hairstyle catering to only white people since they don't have a single photo or indication that they work with any hairstyles that aren't white. and they literally just had chunks of matted white hair for sale. This review is from a while ago but somehow never got posted and was accidentally in my drafts so better late than never. I have done my sister's hair most of her life but no longer live by her and wanted her to have a day of a little pampering and a proper salon haircut because she never does anything like this for herself. She's a total outdoorsy tomgirl and will never spend money on herself nor does she know the first thing about the beauty/hair care world. I'm the opposite so I told her I would do the research on all the salons close to her and pick what I thought would be a good one. I even contacted the owner on IG (since my sister is old school and isn't on social media) and sent her the hair inspo pics my sister wanted. I loved her vibe and she was so sweet. I was super excited for my sister to go and have a day that was about her. My sister said she was really nice during the appointment and was excited to get her hair done. I will preface by saying i don't think this is the norm and my sister unfortunately happened to get booked on a bad day. There was some kind of hair show going on in the store so she was being consistently pulled away from my sister and her attention was completely focused on the event. She was nice about it and saying oh sorry I'll be right back I have to help with this. Look, I totally understand that with a hair event the owner is going to be completely involved and focused on that. What I don't agree with is that she would have booked client appointments during this time when you know the focus is not going to be on the client sitting in the chair. If there's an event going on like this, her appointments should've been blocked out for the duration of this event. She was completely distracted and walking back-and-forth throughout my sister's appointment. As this was my sister's first experience at a salon in yearss I was so sad and disappointed for her. She wasn't the priority with the hair event going on and I didn't understand why they would book her during this. Under these circumstances the client is not getting the attention or time she is paying for. And with the constant interruptions you're not going to feel like you're getting a seamless haircut either. She styled her with beachy waves and thought her hair looked pretty good overall. Our cousin was at her house when she got back and noticed right away a big chunk of hair behind her ear had been chopped off. I have no doubt that this happened because she was distracted and regularly looking over at the hair event and walking away to check/work on that. There's no way she couldn't have noticed her mistake unless she was THAT distracted. Her hand probably closed down while she was looking away and the scissors just caught this chunk. My sister and I have super fine thin hair so this was especially upsetting bc my sister doesn't ever style her hair so loosing a chunk is obvious when it air dries. My sister is the nicest person in the world and even if her head had been accidentally shaved, she would've never said anything. That's just who she is, but I needed to write this review because I was so sad for her and just want this establishment to know that this was an unfortunate incident and a really bad call to book an appointment during an event. If you can't prioritize your client and give them the attention they deserve and are paying for accidents like this can happen. If it had been me I would have never even charged my sister, let alone regular price given the experience and the chunk of hair that was mistakenly cut. I just hope something like this doesn't happen again to anyone. read more

If I could give negative stars I honestly would. This experience was not recent but it has NEVER sat well with me so I feel as though I should write a review to help others. I had beautiful long hair that I wanted to be SHOULDER length, so 2-3 inches cut. SHOULDER length. I left this salon with a CHIN LENGTH BOB. I was DEVASTATED, I know it is just hair but as a woman a bad haircut can destroy your confidence and make you not feel like yourself. To make matters worse the stylist Tanya Terry blamed the length on me. She said it was because "I moved during the haircut" not only do I know I held still because I am an ADULT not a child, I also noticed many red flags while she was cutting my hair. She had me looking down at the floor while cutting length. She also must have known she was messing up because she kept saying things like "it's gonna be a big adjustment" or "it may take some getting used to, you probably won't like it at first" like what do you mean you are only cutting like 2-3 inches, what are you preparing me for??? I wish I would have stood up for myself in the moment, but I was/am young and was thinking maybe it's just in my head and maybe this is what I asked for, plus this was her work and I didn't want to insult her. In hindsight I should have asked for a refund (that is what everyone in my life was telling me to do). Because of this experience SO many tears were shed and now I never want to get my hair done again. I wish I had written a review sooner as this was about a year ago but honestly it was just not something I wanted to think about. It may be past the statute of limitations hahahaha but I just had to write a review to maybe prevent even ONE person from getting this treatment again. If she had owned up to her mistake, I would have been over it instantly and maybe we could have come to an agreement of sorts on price but the way she acted was so unprofessional, she basically gaslit me because she knew she was in the wrong so I just feel that I should leave a review. I haven't had a salon cut in a VERY long time and was nervous going in. However, Destiny didn't run and hide when she saw the mess she had to work with. They were very sweet, and my sister loved her hair! I was offered coffee and tea at the desk while I waited. The atmosphere is so hip and refreshing, its Instagram-worthy for sure. I was a little worried the service wouldnt match up with the decor, but I believe it did. My little sister came out of the chair feeling confident and she was definitely happy with what she got for the price she paid. Im coming back :) My only suggestion is to find somewhere around the block to park. There is very little parking at the shop, and you'll most likely have to park on the street. I've been on the hunt for a proper shag haircut and a friend recommended Raw Hair Society. After perusing the bios on the website, I chose to schedule with Tara since her bio specifically mentions shags. I don't know what the deal is, but past attempts at getting this particular haircut at other salons has been quite the endeavor. My hair is long and straight, and previous stylists have opted to play it safe and just cut in some long layers and called it good. Not Tara. She took the time to listen to me and talked about my hair texture and what I could reasonably expect my hair to do. She was very thorough with my cut and gave some excellent styling advice.
