I don't usually write reviews, but tonight's experience deserves one. We called at 8:30 to place a to-go order (they close at 9), and were told they weren't taking any more. A little annoying, but okay--so we drove over to try and dine in instead. When we got there, a staff member told us they weren't seating anyone else. I asked if that was normal since the door and website clearly say open until 9, and she nervously said, "Oh, well we stop taking orders at 8:45." Cool... except it was literally 8:40. I showed her the time, thinking maybe we'd still be seated. She walked off to "check with the kitchen," came back, and just said, "No, we're done." If you close the kitchen early based on how busy the night is, that's understandable--but be transparent. Don't list 9 PM as your closing time if you're shutting it down at 8:30. That's just bad service and worse communication. Also, when a customer asks for clarification and your only response is "I'm not sure what your problem is, ma'am"--you've got a problem. I've worked in restaurants. This wasn't about timing. It was about a staff and kitchen that didn't feel like doing their job. read more

Anyway, I've been skeptical of this place because yeah... sushi in La Grange, KY. I've been a few times now, and have enjoyed it every time. They offer sushi rolls that are a little more fun than the usual variety. The King Kong has red and blue colored tempura flakes that make it look awesome. Also helps my kids gobble it right up. My personal favorite is the Genghis Khan, which comes with a slice of beef on top. Soups, gyoza, and their teriyaki have all been enjoyed in my household. Kind of pricey, and the fried rice really leaves something to be desired. All-in-all, it's worth checking out! read more

Been here a few times. Normally pretty good but service was poor last time. Ordered Edamame. Was charged for it clearly on the bill but it was never delivered to us. We just paid for it rather than trying to get the attention of the server. Entrees came out at different times. Bowls for salads and soup were never cleared from our table throughout the meal. We had another enjoyable meal here this evening! If you've never been, let me start by saying they have all kinds of cooked food as well as raw sushi! I've been surprised to learn how many folks didn't know that. They have several Japanese and Korean dishes we like. Tonight our group had: vegetable and shrimp tempura- it was enjoyed so much as an appetizer, two people got it as an entree; calamari- super tender; chicken katsu and vegetables- great Korean style bbq sauce; tuna tataki- lightly seared tuna on a bed of greens; 3 different sushi rolls and fried rice. Service is always pleasant and it's an enjoyable experience out. Not too noisy and can accommodate medium size groups. Something different right in Oldham County. We are driving from Detroit to New Orleans to move our daughter int o college and were looking for a nice spot to stop for dinner. I never would have expected to find a special sushi place like this in the middle of Kentucky??!! Most creative and tasty sushi I've had in a very long time!!! The flavor combinations of the different rolls cannot be found anywhere else. My husband and daughter loved the miso soup and gyoza app and I thought the "berry cado" was amazing! That's lightly fried avocado wedges topped with crab and with the most complementary berry sauce. It's hard to explain but just order it! Our three specialty rolls were the Flamingo, the BeBe and the Midnight Train. Impossible to describe here so read the menu but you can't go wrong no matter what you try. I wish we lived closer because there is so much left on the menu for me! I also ordered a house red wine and was surprised how much I enjoyed it. (And it was only $6!) I have gone to Raw Shushi Bare and Grill for the last time. I rarely go there anyway, even though they are about 5 minutes from my home, because there are at least three other sushi places that are less expensive and have larger and better quality rolls within 20 minutes (well worth the drive). The last straw was yesterday when I went there because there was a traffic jam that prevented me from going to the better places. I ordered seven rolls for my family, one of which was a yellow tail roll for myself. I was talking and not really looking at the sushi closely, and when I put the first piece of yellow tail in my mouth I knew instantly that it was bad. There was a terrible flavor, odor, and it was incredibly slimy. Fortunately, I was able to spit it out and rinse my mouth out before I swallowed any of it. I took a closer look and saw that there were no real pieces of yellow tail in the roll, just decomposing slime (see photos). My family and I probably eat sushi at least once a week, so I know what fresh fish tastes like as compared to spoiled. This is the first time I can ever remember having to spit out a piece of sushi, and I will never let that happen again. I am all about supporting local/small businesses, but I can't imagine how sick I would be had I actually eaten that roll. Never again Raw Sushi Bar and Grill. read more

I am super jealous that LaGrange has such an amazing sushi bar and Frankfort does not. (This places blows Ginza out of the water) I am super impressed with how hot and fresh my udon was. It is made fresh to order and is really tasty. The tempura veggies that come with it have the perfect amount of crunch. The rolls are pretty impressive. The maui waui roll with the blue. Really pretty. I am looking forward to my next business meeting that takes me to LaGrange. read more

We are from out of town. We looked for a good Sushi restaurant that could also handle non-sushi eaters. We were seated immediately by our server to be Peter. Peter was extremely helpful answering the numerous questions that we all asked. He offered recommendations, etc., based on different individual's taste. We had a vegetable and a shrimp tempura appetizer. The tempura was heavenly. Perfectly cooked and fresh tasting. This was only a slight indication of the food to come. The different entrees were raved by our entire party. As if that wasn't enough, Peter recommended the house dessert of fried ice cream. Think of solidly frozen. Ice cream sandwiches rolled in pound cake. Deep fried and served with a strawberry drizzle. It was the perfect ending to the meal. (Been meaning to post a review, just now getting around to it) I ordered to go one time because I was in a hurry. I live about 5min away from the place. I arrived a smidge early so I had to wait for the food - not a problem. When I got home with my sushi presentation was great. Rolled nicely and quite visually appealing. I always order the raw fish kind of sushi, since that's my favorite. When I ate it I could taste the fish (fresh fish usually doesn't taste "fishy") but I kinda blew it off and kept eating it because I was starving. Not my brightest moment as about 30-45 minutes later I was projectile vomiting everywhere. I'm fairly certain I got food poisoning. (To which my father told me "well yeah, you got sushi in LAGRANGE what do you expect" ... ouch) Not sure if it was a lack of hand hygiene OR not using as fresh of a fish or what, as food poisoning can be from so many factors. Ate here with my family on June 17 and got violently ill all night long. I ate a number of things including the (supposedly) Korean style chicken wing appetizer, which I (and only I) ate two of and didn't like. They were greasy wings with Thai chili sauce. Nothing Korean about them. I took the rest home because my son wanted them. My son went to eat the leftovers the next day and even after warming them in the microwave found them to be raw inside. This restaurant is excellent. We have been there about six times now and every time we have been there everything has been amazing. The fried tofu and fried avocados are fantastic. We have had almost every sushi roll and have yet to try one we were disappointed with. We were very impressed with the flying sea monster, but any of the others are amazing as well. It's family owned and they where pretty accommodating. I ordered a Chirashi Salad (non menu item) which consisted of mix raw seafood on a bed of greens. Cost $20. The seafood presentation was awesome and the taste was delicious and fresh. The only downside was the salad, it did not have any dressing to it and the bowl was an odd shape to eat off of so I couldn't eat the whole salad properly. I wanted something different from your traditional fast food while on a Business Roadtrip and found Raw Sushi Bar & Grill on Yelp by chance. I stopped in about 5 minutes before they closed between lunch and dinner and the restaurant was practically empty with one patron finishing a meal and staff sitting down at a table in the back eating themselves.. Initially, I thought the hostess was turning me away, and I would have left without a fuss. Alternatively she asked if I would like to order to go, which was fine by me. I placed an order for a Dynamite Roll and Volcano Roll, saw the sushi chef get up and quickly prepare my rolls and I was on my way. I sat in the parking lot and enjoyed my food.
