We eat here about every other week. There aren't a lot of dining places in Prospect but this one is great! You aren't paying for the ambiance here. It's passable but needs a little TLC. Service is prompt and attentive, especially given how small the dining room is. But what you are paying for, and this place delivers nicely, is the quality of the sushi. Whether you like rolls, Sashimi or Nigiri, they have extremely fresh and well made selections. I tend to follow a Keto diet and in especially happy with the number of no-rice rolls they have available here. Tiger and White Garden rolls are my faves, with White Garden pretty much sashimi and vegetable mix. Makes for a favorite casual date night when in town! read more

Don't let the small footprint in a strip mall fool you. This place is so good. And the staff was super friendly and helpful. The spicy tuna nachos were amazing and very filling. My husband and I ordered 4 rolls between the two of us, which is our typical practice. But we barely made a dent after finishing the spicy tuna nachos app. In the future, I will probably just get this as my entrée. They were out of my first two choices of tea. I don't remember what I ended up getting, but it was good. Hopefully next time they will have but firs choice. Sashimi slices are paper thin, and unevenly cut (perhaps they were prepared by non-sushi chefs???). Overpriced for quality received. Service: 2/5 stars. First, my take out order was 40 min late. Second, while waiting I witnessed an exchange between waitress and a Spanish-only speaking chef... waitress was asking about the chef's sashimi selection of the day for a customer, and it took 2 other workers to translate. Chef was also looking at sushi description while making the rolls. A table came in about the same time I arrived at the table and by the time I left they were still waiting on their food. Came in Thursday night with no wait and seated quickly. This review is only for the food I ate. My friends seemed to enjoy their specialty rolls. Ordered: Omakase Fried amaebi head Dashi tofu Fried oysters Server was nice and friendly but does not know her menu. She didn't know what amaebi heads were. Then she came back and said they didn't have any Second, my order comes with soup and salad. While friends got their salads, she didn't bring mine until asked. She was apologetic and it was fine, but she didn't know it was part of the meal. I've had better salad dressing and soup was over salted. The oysters were fried well and tasted fine. But the dipping suave was too salty. The tofu was also deep fried and came with the same sauce. I think they were trying to replicate agedashi tofu, but not the same. My omakase meal included 5 pieces each of sashimi and nigiri with one tuna roll. Fish was not fresh and I was most disappointed in the salmon and the tuna roll. I had hoped the menu had also regular meals, but others than chicken fried rice, it's pretty much all sushi. We had the yum yum roll, it wasn't very firm, slices very uneven, but the flavor was good. What a surprise! I used Open Table to find best sushi in this little town and am so amazed by the quality of this sushi. It meets California quality and style. I went on a Friday and afternoon and was the only diner so I thought "uh oh" because that usually isn't a great indication. I sat down at a table and the server gave me the menu right away and got my drink. I chose the mushroom soup to start. It was delivered to me fairly quick and was hot and light tasting. Similar to a miso soup. I decided on the tornado roll with the smoked crab on top. This thing was gigantic and very tasty. The tuna inside was a soft texture and it also had asparagus, cream cheese and avocado with it. The décor inside is very modern. I hope to try some of the other rolls, but I'm not sure if anything can top that tornado roll. read more

Not covid friendly, man who seemed like a manager wearing a mask below his nose taking care of customers and pouring water from a communal pitcher that touches everyone's glass. Our waiter made a mistake on our tab and without notifying us just charged our card a different price than what we were originally shown. It's okay he made a mistake but he didn't notify us of the change or apologize. We also left most of a roll on the table because the fish didn't taste fresh or idk what it was but it tasted off. Terrible experience here. My to-go order was a little botched and the sushi itself was even worse. I ordered the Las Vegas Roll and a Yum Yum Roll over the phone, and they couldn't seem to get my order right (they kept switching around the quantity of rolls, including on my receipt, although I clearly specified only one of each). I arrived and the order wasn't ready...it took about 35 minutes total to prepare 2 rolls (the restaurant was not busy--only 2 patrons and one other to-go order waiting). When I got home, I realized the Las Vegas Roll, a fried roll, was extremely undercooked so it tasted like mush. Their sushi is also a bit overpriced comparatively After attempting to eat my pricey, delayed sushi, I ended up getting sick later that night. I will not return! read more

Outstanding experience and delicious Sushi! I ventured outside of my Sushi Comfort Zone recently to try Arata in Prospect for the first time. Easily the best decision I made all week! (Although, to be fair, it was a week full of questionable decisions). The ambiance was intimate, relaxed and welcoming, the decor was modern and warm and the service was top notch. But the food....the food, my friends, was amazing. A wide variety of rolls both standard and specialty filled the menu. My wife and I ordered two of the house specials -The Las Vegas Roll and the Arata Roll - and were blown away. Full of flavor and a very creative take on sushi. The owner, Peru, took some time to chat with us and highlight his favorite on the menu. The other rolls (Crunch Munch, Rainbow, etc) were tremendous and the portions were giant! It was a great first visit and we'll certainly be back. Arata really hit the spot as an upscale, delicious Sushi joint! Amazing stuff. read more

My partner and I visited last night for dinner. We ordered ginger salads, miso soup, a sushi roll, dashi tofu, and a pot of tea. We received the sushi roll fairly quickly, but 20 minutes later we did not have any other items. We asked the server to check on it for us, and to bring the tea. 10 minutes passed. Our server returned to tell us they were out of our requested tea and offered an alternative, which we accepted. Another 10 minutes or so, the server returned with a teapot and one slightly filmy glass. The pot was full of plain hot water. We waited another 20 minutes before informing the server that we needed to be going and request that the rest of our order be canceled. The clearly overwhelmed server was apologetic and accommodating. For what it's worth, the crunch munch roll was yummy. It seemed that the management was failing pretty badly. We hope things look up for this little restaurant, but we are unlikely to return. read more

This is one of our favorite spots for sushi. The executive roll and New Orleans roll are our go-to picks that always satisfy. They have great flavor and are unique. The jalapeño bomb app is "the bomb." #90sthrowback. And the must-have is a dessert of all things...it's not listed on the menu, but if you're off the carb-free wagon, ask for the cheesecake roll. The restaurant is set a little back from the main road, and is difficult to find unless you are looking for it. It is in the middle of one of those mini-strip-malls that seem to be breeding across the land. Nicely furnished and decorated, bordering on the pretentious, but then this is Prospect, home of the local Old Money. Our waiter (Gerald) was very soft-spoken, but a pleasant enough fellow, and very helpful. We started off with a salad and a Miso soup. Both were about twice the size that we are expecting. This was followed by a sushi order consisting of a Spider Roll and "Sunshine" one of the few specialty rolls that worked for both of us (I can't handle spices, and Her Ladyship does not like anything with Cream Cheese in it). Both were very nice - Her Ladyship thought that the Sunshine roll was delightful. The total for the mean came to $26, which is very reasonable for a meal of this caliber. As Darth Vader would say: "Impressive" And that's where it went pear-shaped. We had a Groupon for this place, and they add an 18% gratuity for Groupons. I understand why they do this - some Groupon-bearing customers are lousy tippers. I am not one of them; having once waited tables, I normally try to tip well, and always more than 18%. But singling out Groupons for this treatment just seems... wrong. Even more annoying, having added 18% to the bill, they then have the nerve to ask for a second gratuity. I was tempted to leave nothing more, but that would have just punished our waiter, which would not be fair, so I left a few dollars extra. This annoyance was the only blot upon an otherwise perfect experience, and that cost them that fifth star. The funny thing was that I would probably have left a bigger tip if they hadn't been so grabby. I will probably return; the food and service were both excellent. Perhaps the experience is better if you don't have a Groupon. read more

Visited Dec. 2012 Phenomenal. Everything is so fresh you can taste the difference. The staff is incredibly responsive (perhaps they could stand down a little, but it might have been because they weren't busy and this guy was bored) and knowledgeable. We even had a conversation with the chef about the food we were eating and how it was made. I can personally recommend the uni (sea urchin, limited availability) and the Dragon, Arata, 7&7, and California rolls. Any would individually earn 5 stars; combined they made a wonderful outing with friends at a very enjoyable, classy place. read more
