Ray & Son's was the perfect match for my job - a difficult "good neighbor" fence with my incredibly stupid and cheap neighbor. Because of my stupid neighbor, Ray's crew had to work with an incredibly hostile painter that my idiot neighbor scheduled for the same day. Terrible! Avoid this guy! Read my screenshots in the correct order as I've numbered them. They are time stamped. Here is a summary: 1. Appt. set day before THUR for FRI between 8 and 10 am for the request gate repair service. 2. At 7:24 am he texts to confirm. At 7:24 we text back to confirm. All seems on track. 3. 1.5 hrs. later at 9:11 am he makes some excuse why he won't be there on time (says other people let him down) and tries to blame us. 4. At 9:11 am he says he will leave in an hour. Mind you, he has to drive 2 hours. (We wonder why he is coming from so far away). Says he was waiting to hear back. We literally texted back to his 7:24 am confirmation at 7:24 am so this does not hold up. 5. He apologizes. He says he will take off $100 but since price estimate has not been set, we are skeptical. He can just set any price now and say it is $100 less. We give him a 2nd chance anyway. 6. Second chance appt. is for noon same day. We say we'll wait until 12:30. 7. At 10 am he claims he will "put the pedal to the metal" and he is sorry. Okay. 8. Ready for the punchline? At 11:11 am he texts that he hasn't even left yet! He will not be there for his second chance appointment until 1:30 pm supposedly. 9. We've been waiting around all the d*** morning like ding dongs! 10. We had many other things we could have been getting done today both in and out of the house, so this was not only annoying, but also a pure waste of our time. I have used them to fix the gate for my house. But they never finished it when they were supposed to paint it after they finished, and this happened in January. Today is April 21st and still no show no call!!! They were the highest price to use put I did it with them because they were available at the time I need it. But after reading that post and evaluating everything laid out, you can clearly see that he was responding and doing everything he could to help that customer. Ray beat the price of the other company I had a quote for. His crew showed up and got right to work on the designated day. I did have to stay on top of the guys to make sure corners weren't being cut and had to correct a few issues with sections of the gate being not level. At the end of the project, the gate that was installed was 3' and the wrought iron fence was 4' which left a 1' gap at the bottom. Because I had this installed for my two toddlers, that obviously wouldn't work. The crew did comeback and put on a matching gate the next day which looks great. They did not have two end caps for the gate and I was told he would be back in a few hours to put them on. Here we are two weeks later, and no end caps, and still sharp raw edges on top of the fence. Never did hear from Ray or anyone once I gave the remaining money or get a receipt like he said. Maybe they will come put the end caps on soon, I'll keep waiting I guess. As a part of the agreed price, Ray said they would haul away a bunch of cardboard boxes I had from moving, as well as two old toilets and some random metal. Later that evening, Ray tried charging me $200 extra dollars to cover "dump fees". I informed him that it was 98% cardboard and nothing different than what we originally agreed upon with the exception of a working trash compactor that I told the guys they could take to sell or put in their house. Once he said they didn't want it, I absolutely agreed to take care of that myself since it was in perfect working condition. After that, it was only the original cardboard he agreed to take and I said I would not be paying extra because we already agreed to this in the original work quote. His only comment was "I guess nice guys finish last". All in all, the work got done and the fence is secure and does look good. That was not without multiple times of having to point things out for correction, or what seemed like just trying to rush to get the job done. Impossible to get a written quote from this company. I have been trying for two weeks. I told him repeatedly that I never received his emailed quote. He insisted he sent I asked repeatedly to send again. He then sent me a screenshot of his failed attempt, without the @ symbol in the email. I explained to him that he forgot the @ symbol in the email. Still nothing. With business practices like this I highly doubt they will stay in business. Would not recommend. Hired to install and replace a new wooden fence [redwood] to complement the existing redwood fence and the boards are not of the same kind and quality, the spaces between the boards are not properly spaced because three [3] individuals were installing them at the same time.
