After much thought, I feel the review may help others. Basically front desk "three stooges" as they claim to be cannot explain the invoice or insurance nor be able to greet a customer at all. I do not remember the last time they gave me a hello or hi or how are you. Smile? It feels like someone died in there. Last time I asked about the bill, the woman I was NOT talking to started yelling at me. Mary, the short black hair is Dr.'s sister, so there is severe conflict of interest in protecting the patients rights vs. what she says. She has not been able to explain clearly any questions I have had. I went to distance to give the de that the business and I severely regret it. Even after knowing what was wrong, he would refer it out to another dentist for personal relations they may have, and patients do not benefit here. The money does not grow on tree. I saw no respect to patients wallets nor insurance. They are grim and rude. However good the Dr has been until now a severely damaged by the way these women run the front desk. I will never be able to trust any business with such rude front desk, especially any medical establishment as they do not care about you, only the money you generate for them. If you like being given thorough explanations about any treatments, bills and a doctor who actually answers the emergency lines, ( this dentist have a wrong 24 hour on VM, again front desk put that on recording and it's ruining their business as it is not at all responded. ) even after complaint, they did not change it. I wish I can give 0 star. Terrible experiences. My 4-year old has several visits here, every time a different doctor. For both of the teeth fill, there are accidents. For the first teeth fill, it was done by Dr Zheng Xu. During the fill, Dr Xu left a very tiny component she used in my daughter's mouth. I did not know that - the doctor took much longer-than-expected time to do the fill. After that, the doctor said to me that ' Oh finally I found it' (in Chinese, how unprofessional). I ask her what she found, she told me it's some tool that she left in the mouth and she hardly found it. I feel really bad for my daughter to suffer the discomfort with things holding her mouth open for a long time. I was also surprised on how unprofessional the doctor is. For the second teeth fill which is yesterday (1/26), it was done by Dr Garcia. Right after the process, my daughter started to have a swell on one half of the mouth after arriving home, note that my home is only 10min away. At night, my daughter's mouth internal starts to have bigger issues - the swell is bigger and even reaching the lips. This morning, 1/27, my daughter woke up with the inside of her mouth all yellow-ish and red-purple. We took her back to the dentist and the dentist said it is my daughter who chewed her mouth that's why. Oh well, if she bite, how could it be such a large area. It looks to be infected with some liquid and pressure in the teeth fill process. The doctor used her '25-year industry exp' to assure us that it is not her/colleague's fault. Well, if it is, how could they even admit? Anyways, i hope my above 2 experiences help you judge whether you should come to this place. I have all records of visits to this place. I left after my crown fell off twice. Back & forth in & out to re-do. No apologies from Dr. Ray, rude staff tried to charge for minor residual fee after all this. They are lucky I didn't charge them for all the missed hours, not to mention pain & suffering. Ugh. Also pulled kids out of his wife's practice across the street. Too many kids, rushed service, trying to cram in patients. No thank you. You have captive customers here in the Highlands, do better. read more

Dr.Ray is AWESOME .... He's friendly, thorough, professional, helpful - the list goes on. I had a tooth emergency once and he called me the night of to calm me down and helped me. The front office staff on the other hand - Mary specifically- is soooooooooooo (I cant reiterate this enough) unhelpful. And she doesn't listen and she could care less about customer service. I literally just had to ask her to have someone else call me because of her lack of help and even more so, lack of desire, to help. Terrible Fron office staff! I was patient for almost 3 years. In the process of getting a new crown is the tooth next to it broken and I didn't realize until I had a deep cleaning 2 weeks later. The lady who cleaned my teeth figured it out and talked to dr. about it. I've been told it is end of the year and you need to wait until January. Finally in January I got my tooth fixed but 2 months later I became a bill for the repair that caused by doctor. I called office and talked to one of staff. At the beginning she tried to pretend that she doesn't remember anything about that tooth and finally she said " No dr. saying it didn't caused by getting the new crown..." I told her: thanks but it was my last time... She answered: Ok! Do it please. I am really upset and disappointed about it. Please train your stuff how to provide service to people and remind them that your office is not a car dealership! read more

It's important to practice good hygiene. I always said, if you aren't taking good care of your teeth, you probably aren't taking care of something else either...But, it's never too late to start! Highlands Dentistry is probably the best dental establishment I've visited. I've been a few times for various reasons and have consistently had a positive experience. Initially I went for pain in my gum (turned out to be a stubborn piece of popcorn kernel). They scheduled me for a same day appointment for that issue. While I was there, I scheduled a cleaning for just a week later. When I went for my cleaning, not only did I get a complete cleaning, I also received a free set of custom whitening trays molded to my teeth along with whitening solution. My hygienist does a great job and she has a wonderful personality. I just went back for my second cleaning 6 months later...they've kept my teeth in perfect shape. They currently have a check-in offer for a free sonicare tooth brush. read more

I have been to Highland dentistry twice primarily for checkup and cleaning. The doctor and hygienists are honest. When asked about a tooth problem they told me the cause and how it can be addressed with no out of pocket expense (instead of suggesting any unnecessary expensive procedures). I believe that they care about your teeth and long term relationship. Will go to them again. Went to him for broken filling (filling done by someone else). This used to be a great practice. Dr. Ray was great and thorough, as were the hygienists. Now, hygienists are still great, but Dr. Ray always seems extremely rushed. More importantly, the front and back office staff are horrendous. Expect numerous billing issues that don't get resolved, and if you're trying to get an appointment they don't respond to messages or emails. It's unfortunate and maybe it will turn around at some point but it's too late for us. read more

I was having extreme pain in two molars along with sinus trouble and was seen by Dr. Alireza Basharati on July 3rd, 2023. The receptionist had told me on the phone that the cost would be $110 and would include x-rays. The practice was high end and well organized and the x-ray technician was polite and had a PhD. Dr. Basharati seemed bright and full of himself and after he asked me to tell him the problem, he bounced up and down on his stool like a little kid, which made it hard to talk to him; I had to look away. He didn't examine all of my teeth, only the area I was having pain in. He did make pitches for orthodontics and gum grafts. At the end of the visit, he asked if I had any questions and I thought of one while I was paying, so a front desk person retrieved him for me, but he brushed off my question saying next time. The bill came to $130--they said because it was necessary to take two, not just one, x-ray--although they had said the exam would include x-rays, plural. I thought they were going to do the whole mouth. He recommended two root canals immediately and thought I would be able to have them done the same day. But it turned out the endodontist's office was closed and wouldn't open until July 5th and wouldn't be able to see me until the 7th. Meanwhile, I treated myself with large amounts of Vitamin C, as Dr. Basharati, apparently correctly, said that the problem was due to my gum recession, and I knew that Vitamin C could treat scurvy, which affects the gums. I took several teaspoonsful of C daily for a few days and my problem was nearly gone 24 hours before my endodontist appointment, so I cancelled it. Three weeks later, my problem has not returned, though it feels like I need to keep taking more C than I used to. I dodged a $5500.00 bullet. read more

So another yelper on her just confirmed the issue I came to Yelp with. Sadly, I was quite excited to come here for the first time because of the high remarks on Yelp. I'll never know if this dentist truly is as amazing as everyone says due to the front desk staff you have there. I had made my appointment months and months in advance quite proactively. I had my wisdom teeth out and could not make my regular 6 month appointment with my previous dentist. This is causing me to have very tender teeth and pain, so hence I've been more than ready to have this appointment tomorrow. I work a day job 6AM-3PM usually. So between 3-5 is when I get my appointments and anything else I need to schedule after the work day finished. The front desk receptionist (same woman) called me this morning at about 10AM. Hence, I am at work and cannot deal with my voicemails, but when she called a second time at 12:30 I was worried and took the time out of my day to listen to the voicemail. She called the first time to confirm my appointment. The second call was again to confirm my appointment and if I didn't it would be CANCELLED. Since when in the history of ANYWHERE else do people have the right to cancel your appointment out of the blue?! I was extremely irritated and called her right back because of the pain in my mouth and NEEDING this appointment tomorrow. Her excuse went something like, "Well umm I called you like 3 times and nobody answered and we just need a confirmation." So I replied with an, "Umm well there's other people who have day jobs and are at work right now who cannot be dealing with phone calls regarding appointments? Especially one's that patients have already made months in advance and you're going to tell me you're cancelling mine right now because I can't immediately call you back within a 3 hour time frame??? I just don't even understand the logic there but I digress. Anyways. She continued to tell me that my appointment was no longer available. And I asked so in the future...you're telling me even if I make an appointment 6 months in advance you might cancel on me again if I don't pick up the phone right away to confirm the day before? Nonetheless I'm sure the dentist is as wonderful as everyone says. I've worked over 6 years in the customer service industry and this is just textbook how to loose new customers and quite possibly old ones. I won't be calling to re schedule because frankly I don't ever want to deal with the receptionist here again OR worry about my next new appointment being cancelled. Either find some actually qualified front desk receptionists or someone needs to give them a workbook on customer service for dummies. It's a real shame that something like the front desk has now cast a negative cloud over this place I was really looking forward to visiting and becoming a regular at. read more

*update: I've had a few appts since writing this review, and I must say, that the front office staff is becoming more in sync with the back office staff. Thank you for being kind.* Dr Ray is excellent; kind, trustworthy, professional & efficient but his Front Office staff is quite the opposite. It takes a lot for me to complain but yesterday's phone call with Ashley was upsetting. My interaction with Joanne the time before that, was even worse. Thus, this review. After being ignored for appt requests via e-mail, I called. The excuse given to me was "we've been having technical problems." I then asked about a bill I received for rescheduling an annual dental cleaning. I explained that I got a call from Mary(?) 2 days prior to the appt (an appt scheduled almost a year prior), and notified her that I would need to reschedule it. She didn't tell me I'd receive a bill of $50 for it. Otherwise, I would have kept it. Ashley then says "you have a history of no-shows and cancelling appts." I was in shock. When I asked her when I last no-showed, she said "2013." Seriously? Then she says "your daughter has missed 2 appts in the past too." Really? My daughter who's 24yrs old? Why is she even being brought up? Then she offers me an appt within an hour. I was at work, and it wasn't an emergency, but if I had taken it, I probably would've been billed like it was an emergency and told to pay half of it up front (like last time). I plan on pursuing the Invisalign's I've already paid for. And what else Dr. Ray had planned for me. After that, if the Front Desk doesn't turn into a "Care Team" then I will be looking elsewhere. read more

Late October 2014, I decided to start my ortho treatment with Dr. Ray Besharati at Highlands Dentistry, Issaquah, WA because he promised at my first ortho consultation that with his ortho treatment, I will be able to have the vertically straight teeth I've always wanted. He kept promising me along the treatment that there can always be refinement of treatment plan in order to achieve results. He kept ensuring me that my anticipated result can be achieved with him. My last visit to this office was in February 2015, I brought up my anticipated treatment result again since I noticed very little change with my teeth. Dr. Ray Besharati told me a completely different story than what he has been telling me. At the visit, he said that he was not able to achieve my anticipated treatment result no matter with or without refinement treatment plan. I was very disappointed and decided to end treatment with him, and transfer to another orthodontist. At that time, I was half way through my treatment, and I was charged over 80% of the total cost. I got to know through the insurance company that they file a claim to my insurance company to bill the Full treatment period, half of which services they have never provided. I've talked with the office multiple times, and they were not willing to give me any refund. Dr. Ray Besharati's office not only gave me false information in order to get me into a treatment with him, but also charged me for the services that they have never provided without being willing to offer any compensation. I ended up paying over $4,000 for no result. They eventually refunded me $2000 after half a year. Dr. Ray Besharati might be a good dentist, but he is not capable of doing complicated ortho treatment. He oversold himself, and let the patient pay for the price. read more

We recently tried to change an appointment 47 hours before the next appointment. However, since they require 48 hours advance notice, Mary told me they would charge us $50. Needless to say, we were not going to pay one penny of that. We told Mary to waive the fees but she said the fees were automatically added and she couldn't do anything about it. We asked her to talk to Dr. Ray about waiving the fees and she said she will let her accountant know. We gave them two days, and Mary did not give us a call back nor follow up with us. We had to call back and ask Dr. Ray to call us back personally, which he did and told us he would waive the fees. Although Dr. Ray was very kind to do so, I am disappointed by how his staff managed the situation and were not all that friendly. Regarding the services: The hygienists do not seem to follow a standard procedure and vary from person to person. Each time I go there, the dental cleaning procedure is different depending on the person doing the work. Sometimes my teeth will get flossed, sometimes not, sometimes I would get fluoride treatment, sometimes not, sometimes it would take an hour, and other times it would take 20 minutes. That being said, Tanya does a good job of being very thorough. Dr. Ray is great too but I think the management needs a little improvement. read more

I wish they realized people have other commitments and unlike them when I give someone an appointment I like to be on time. We relocated to the Issaquah Highlands and needed to establish care with a dental provider. We also needed a pediatric dentist for our 3 year old. I noticed Highlands Dentistry when exploring the neighborhood one day and checked them out online. Yelp users had nothing but praises for this dental group which consists of a husband-wife team, Dr. Ray and Dr. Shadi. I have since been in for a checkup with Dr. Ray and found him to be very pleasant, efficient and professional. My 3 year old went in for his first checkup with Dr. Shadi and I was very impressed with how well she and her dental hygienist made him feel so comfortable and safe. His first dental experience was very positive and fun ("fun" being the exact word my son used!). Picking a "treasure" from the treasure box after his visit was a definite plus! The office itself is very tech savvy (i.e. paperwork completed via iPad, flat screen TV's above each dental chair...). It is very organized in appearance, meticulous and CLEAN. There is also a very cute kids play area in the waiting room with educational and quality toys, not junk picked up from a thrift store. I am so happy to find such a great practice. It's so nice to have the whole family's dental care under one roof and in our neighborhood! read more

Going to the dentist sucks and I am very picky. My husband and I go to HD and my kids go to the kids office across the street. We've all had incredible experiences. My kids actually love going to the dentist now. I can't speak highly enough of their practice. As others have mentioned- the multiple times per day calling is a bit crazy. I always text confirm my appointment but often still get calls to verify and ask if I can come a bit earlier or later. I work full time so this is a major annoyance. I once got 3 calls about an appointment that I had text confirmed but I guess didn't go through. Once they get ahold of their communication strategy everything will be truly perfect. read more

What kind of dummy shows up for a dentist appointment a full week early??... This dummy. And yet, they got me in for what I needed. Not just a routine exam and cleaning, but a CROWN. Prep, mold, magical space-age manufacturing process, seat, glowing blue light, whittle away at things.. and it is perfect. IT IS PERFECT. This is not a guarantee that if you show up for your appointment one week early, they will be able to accommodate whatever it is you have going on. BUT at minimum they will not make you feel like a jerk about it. Further, i've had my share of horrifying dental experiences at other places, which I have NOT yelped about because my mom told me if i don't have anything nice to say, probably don't yelp it either. But these folks, and Dr. Ray, are NICE, and likable, and understanding of my tension and so far, they have done an excellent job. I am not filled with anxiety about my April visit! He's had to have one tooth pulled and another one he's currently getting a baby root canal and a crown. First I'd say "DON'T LET YOUR KIDS EAT CANDY AND BRUSH THEIR TEETH VERY WELL TWICE A DAY". I've been under Dr. Ray's care and have been very happy with his thoroughness and expertise with my complicated jaw problem. I figured I'd switch my 7-yo to HD too. My son went in yesterday for a checkup and cleaning. The staff was great with him and coaxed him through the entire appointment - he didn't want to put the bite wings in his mouth, making it challenging for the hygienist, but she handled it well and didn't give up. My 3 year old daughter started going here and we were impressed with how well they were able to ease her anxiety. Now the whole family goes here! Very friendly and professional staff and I'm not saying this because I got a Sonicare as a new patient. Honestly the best dentists we've seen. Our whole family sees Dr. Shadi (kids) and Dr. Ray (adults). The kids look forward to going in. My 6 year old loves the TVs above the chairs, and my 4 year old has a blast with the stuffed animals, brushing their teeth with the huge toothbrushes. On the adult side, I've seen several of the hygenists and Dr. Ray. We did braces, teeth whitening, referral for wisdom tooth extraction, and general checkups. All has gone well. The office is clean and new with all the best comforts for kids and adults. They have a great online appointment system and a wonderful front desk staff. Just had my first visit to the dentist in over a year, and my first visit to Highlands Dentistry. Made the decision to try it out because we'd moved to Sammamish and heard good things about Highlands for kids through discussion boards at work. I wanted to go to the same place as my young son and am glad I chose this place. The adult dentist is different than the kid dentist, but I found him very articulate, nice and knowledgeable. The hygienist was very nice too and the new patient paperwork was all online and very easy to complete. For context, I had some concerns with my previous dentist really seeming to be eager to do unnecessary fillings, suggesting jaw surgery, etc. I brought my night guard in to Highlands assuming I would need a new one, but instead they cleaned it and said it was fine. The dentist also said he wasn't the kind of dentist to do preventative fillings and said we'd watch one tooth on future visits. Bottom line, I'm very satisfied with my first visit and see no reason why Highlands Dentistry won't be my dentist office for years to come. read more

My last dentist said I needed over $4000 worth of work, so I sought another opinion. I called on Friday for a regular cleaning. A friendly front office staff member made the reservation and took some info from me. I went to their website and filled out online forms (four forms). I was able to get an appointment the next day (a Saturday). I appreciated that this office is open every Saturday. I arrived to a very clean office with wonderful art glass appointments and signage. They have a really neat alcove play area for little kids (older than say 8 might not appreciate) with gum-ball like machines that dispense small toys (using a token from staff). Very nice. After check-in I was taken back right away. The office environment is warm with earthy tones. My one surprise is the open floor plan. I rated the office environment a B only for this reason because I prefer more privacy when discussing medical matters. I felt like the patient in the next chair was just sitting there listening to my chat with the hygienist. I had x-rays, a cleaning, and dental exam by doctor Besharati. This office has all the latest tech. I really appreciated the newer ultrasonic cleaner which is less loud and more precise (I can't stand that device!). I also had a mouth cancer screening with a strange blue light scope gadget that put out a surprising amount of heat (not uncomfortable at all). My hygienist Kate was an as-needed employee. They need to hire Kate full time. She was wonderful. The front office staff was knowledgeable about insurance billing, and we talked at some length about yearly maximums and such. They were familiar with all the ins and outs. I made another appointment and left. All and all, a warm relaxed environment with welcoming staff and quality care. Very difficult front office staff to work with (JoAnne, Ashley, Mary). Very poor customer service Incl. belitteling the patients and their own boss, Dr. Ray Besharati. Billing and warranty issues have been a great issue here. If I want to talk to the dentist himself I can't get an appointment regarding front office treatment nor will I receive a phone call from the dentist even though I've requested it on several occassions. We know several patients who transferred to another dentist primarily because of the rude and unprofessional front desk behavior. We will be transferring to a new dentist office. We tried to ignore this behavior for many years but enough is enough. It's time to look for a professional and friendly dentist office. read more

My son enjoyed his recent dental visit at Highlands Kids Dentistry, pediatric office. Starting in the waiting area he loved the balloon and Mr. Bear. The closed operatory was nice to help him get used to the experience with less distraction; the decor and ceiling tv helped him a lot to get through the cleaning and exam. Alena was very kind and seems to be very good with children in general, customizing my son's tv choice, using a friendly and patient tone, and speaking directly to my son as well as me. Dr. Shadi and Dr. Garcia conduct efficient exams and answer my questions well. As a hygienist myself, I appreciate the specific assessment and report of my child's plaque, spacing, home care improvement, and fluoride needs. These things were very important to me for the dental visit experience of my child and I'd recommend this office to anyone. read more

The front desk receptionists is horrible, they are not friendly and they do not look happy to deal with your schedule. They are not rude but their attitude are show in their face and how they dealing with customer, seem like they have a lot of customer already and they don't care. This kind of receptionist make you feel like schedule a next visit seem like a painful job to you but ironically it is their job to make customer feel welcome and want to come back. The review from Brianna B. was right on spot after today experience, me and my husband will move our two kids to other dentist who have a more friendly and more professional front desk receptionists. From my experience with this dentist in the last past 3 years, their calculation between what customer have to pay and what insurance have to pay are often off. I always check bill from my insurance that it is match with my bill from the dentist. They always calculate wrong and the latest bill from them said I own them $$ so I call my insurance because I saw the bill from insurance that said everything paid in full but why I still have to pay the dentist again!!!, so I call them and again the receptionist just said "yesh you have to pay" until I told her that my insurance said they paid in full and I do not have to pay then she quite for a while and finally told me the insurance paid in full and I don't have to pay. read more

I cannot stand the front office staff and the other hygienists at the office. Dr. Ray is very professional. Unfortunately, the staff imposes on XRay every single time I go even though it's just been few weeks. They are rude, arrogant and very snobbish & won't even allow me to explain why I was there. They don't even have time for me to remove my jacket and or tell them if I am on medication or not. Every single patient who comes there are openly showing their disapproval with the staff. I hope Dr. Ray takes actions else I am going elsewhere. It's very disappointing that they won't even allow me to talk over the phone as why I want an appt & the front office staff Joanna is literally yelling at me over the phone when I called to ask an appointment. Joanne is the worst! Worst experience dealing with a dentist. They gave us a quote and told us that the quote could change if we waited to do the work. We called back within a week to schedule appointment and lock in price. Wife got the work done and paid and all was said done. A month later we get another bill for $150 and I call back and the receptionist claimed that they were short handed and didn't have time to properly contact delta dental and was left with no resoltution. I reached out to the owner by email and got no response for month. Each time they sent me a bill I waited for email back until today they are threatening with collections without resolution. Please avoid the place at all costs and look elsewhere for your family. read more

This is probably the best dental office that I have been to! The lobby is very inviting and cozy and parking is easy. The staff was great and Dr Besharati was very personable and really seemed to care. Being new to the area, I will definitely keep going here! read more
