Fantastic food and service. Had the brisket and pulled pork combo plate, and my wife had the chicken. Large portions and meat was tender and juicy, especially the chicken. Great sauces. What an amazing barbecue place! We placed an order to pick up and it was ready in less than 15 minutes. The brisket was beyond and the barbecue was tender and tasty. My daughter ordered wings and she said they were delicious. This was the first time we had eaten here and they gave us an assortment of sauces to try. I would definitely recommend the Sundrop sauce. Great food and great service, I read ALL of the reviews and of course the restaurant is fairly new and things aren't going to be the way EVERYBODY would like them to be and it's your choice to stay or go back. I will be returning and I know of others that go more than twice during business hours. The owner is very friendly and is walking around making sure he's addressing all issues if any so it makes it hard to believe that some of these issues weren't resolved before customers decided to leave and if not either nothing was said or nothing was wrong. My family of close to 15 came here to eat Saturday after attending the funeral of an immediate family member. As soon as we sat down at our table we were greeted by an older lady who wanted us to move tables. We moved tables and didn't think anything of it even though she had a bad attitude and never even smiled at us. After receiving our food she made two more rude comments towards our table. After she walked away I stated privately to my family that I didn't care for her attitude. Another younger server overheard my conversation and told on me to the older server. She confronted my table and wanted to know why I didn't like her and why I was talking about her. Now, I wasn't even mean and this was a private conversation with my family in a moment of grief when we just wanted to sit down and have a nice lunch and enjoy ourselves. The food was great and came out fast, I just wouldn't suggest this place if you expect nice hospitality from the servers. read more

This place is great! Best ribs and brisket I've had at any restaurant in Charlotte. Ribs with sundrop glaze is where it's at!! Jalapeño grits are bomb, fried okra as well and street corn is a must try!!The Mac and cheese is a little dry for my taste and slaw is average. Food is consistent we even got catering and it was great. I do wish catering was a little cheaper as other bbq places are cheaper but still this place is better! This BBQ joint is bipolar. Good food.... completely rotten service. First visit the waitress never came back to my table. Still waiting for my tea refill. Second visit the cashier forgot to include my wife's order. After a few minutes waiting after my meal arrived we politely pointed out the mistake and the staff became very rude, the manager (who was responsible for the mix-up)said we had upset her server!?!?!?. Oh yeah baby! Their ribs are off the chain. My wife and I always get catering from these guys and it's always a big hit. We also like the brisket and pork. The ribs have the candy finish on the outside and the jalepeno grits are the best side on the menu. We also love the yams, yep, they're awesome. I am normally not a huge sauce guy with my bbq but the sun drop bbq sauce is a great sauce and extremely popular with our guests. Picked up a carry out order on my way home from work tonight. My husband and I were anxious to try the brisket and barbecue. I must say I was very disappointed and will likely not return. The okra had apparently been sitting for quite some time; was greasy and soggy. I'm a southern girl and was looking forward to good fried okra. Lots of hype for this place so decided to have lunch there today. The building was previously a fish camp built in the early 80's I would guess. Building has been completely retrofitted to appear as though it is an older BBQ "shack". Outside there appeared to be fire pit leading up to the entrance. When you enter, you are first met with a fairly large lobby area. T-shirts and hats of the business are available for sale. Once inside the restaurant, you walk up to an area with friendly staff where you place your order. Behind them is the menu written on a chalkboard. You order there and also pay. For my visit, we were told we could sit anywhere but I don't know if that's the case for dinner. More tables than booths but plenty of seating. Our server came quickly and brought our drinks. Food was at our table in less than 10 minutes. I had the pork plate with BBQ corn and Brunswick stew. My wife had chicken breast on the bone and chopped pork. Her sides were Mac and cheese, fried okra, baked beans and potato salad. Sides appear to be homemade. Some of the best Mac and cheese I've ever had. Fried okra was hot when it came to the table. Hard to pull that off. BBQ corn was a whole cob of corn, roasted with a little bit of "heat". The only side I wasn't very impressed with was the potato salad. Good, but very plain. Several sauces to choose from; mustard based, vinegar, tomato based and an interesting "Sundrop" sauce. Sundrop is a local citrus flavored drink. It was mixed with the vinegar based sauce so had a tangy, yet sweet taste to it. The chicken breast was tender and amazing. Pork was delicious as well. Banana pudding for desert. Perfect blend and tasted great! Also, received 25% veteran discount. Nice surprise! read more

My husband and I try all sorts of bbq places in NC/SC and we always come to the same conclusion that smoke pit in concord is better and this is probably my 4th or 5th time here tonight and OMG the glazed chicken wings are amazing. I can't believe it took me this many visits to try them. So my favs are the glazed chicken wings, street corn and banana pudding. Oh my word. I wanna go back tomo night. My wife and I both had the pork plate with fried okra potato salad and fries between the two of us. Everything was good the meat was moist the fries and okra hot.We drank tea not overly sweet like we like it.Next time I'll try the brisket.We were there by 11:30 on a Thursday walked right up to the counter and ordered.Our waitress brought the tea shortly after we sat down.They serve a large portion of pork,sauces are on the table if you're interested.We'll be going back.We enjoyed it! read more

Unquestionably, the worst barbecue my wife and I have ever eaten. The pulled pork was mushy. The ribs were over-cooked, burned, and hard as bricks. We had two tastes of our pork and were unable to eat more than one rib. We were unable to eat our supper. It was terrible. read more

Slow and very poor service, bland sides, silly long wait for arriving at 445pm.... The managers seemed to have time to speak to the folks who got their food quickly and looked happy.... The managers never came to address us even after we spoke to 2 different waiters to get our order out and in the end had waited over an hour to get our cold bland food brought to the table after waiting 40 minutes to be seated. I realize the bar was set high for them after managing The Smokin Pig resturants around Clemson. Management has failed the workers and customers at Ray Nathans.... We arrived at 4:48 pm... we left at 6:44pm unhappy and wallets much much lighter. Shame on Ray Nathan's for such poor service and cold food. Hopefully the management will get things fixed and listen to customer complaints. We will not be back after the awful service and cold food we were served. We should have left earlier and not hung around to find out how poorly we would be treated. read more

RayNathan's in Gastonia, NC, has the best pulled pork sandwich and dry rub ribs we've EVER had anywhere and we've lived in several states that "specialize" in BBQ. The meat is consistently tender, juicy, and the ribs fall off the bones. The portion size of everything is very generous. The hand cut fries are delicious and fresh, the green beans are well seasoned, the BBQ street corn on the cob is amazing, and the mac & cheese is off the charts. And the banana pudding taste just like mom used to make. When the dining room was open, the restaurant was always packed. The staff are always friendly and efficient, and the food always comes out very fast. Equally important is the fact that the owners genuinely care about their customers. They walk around the dining room and talk to customers to see how everything is going. In those rare occasions when anything is not quite up to your expectations (whether dining in or getting a to-go order), the owners go out of their way to make it right.
