I have passed Courtney's many time and have finally decided to try it - it was National BBQ day so perfect time. I called in a pick up order- the women that answered phone was very help - answered all my questions without irritation- let me tell you that's hard to find Food: we got 2 pounds of shredded BBQ with both mustard sauce and red sauce on side, baked beans - they put the shredded meat in it, a side of hush puppies, white slaw- Mayo and red slaw - vinegar- it had a slightly hot spicy flavor, 2 plates of chopped bbq chicken with slaw, fries, fried okra, a whole pack of buns, a plate of calabash shrimp with 2 sides - all that was $85 dollars The bbq was shredded pork from their farm, sauces are ll homemade, shrimp batter so good- get the salt and pepper batter, chopped bbq chicken was good - in a sweetish bbq sauce , Fried okra very good!!! Courtesy's BBQ in Clover absolutely won me over this time around. I ordered the lunch value meal burger with an extra patty, and it was an excellent deal. The plate came with a very generous portion of hush puppies and crinkle-cut fries, all served hot and fresh. The burger was juicy, flavorful, and satisfying, especially for the price. The atmosphere was great, and service was timely and friendly. For $7, this is hands down the best value for a burger in Clover. I'll be honest: I ate here once during the pandemic and didn't really enjoy it. But the renovations and updated offerings have completely changed my opinion. Not my favorite but I know everyone has different taste buds when it comes to BBQ. I was hopeful this was going to be a hidden gem since we were in the tiny town of Clover. We stopped for lunch. We were seated immediately. The waitress was nice but didn't seem thrilled to be there. We told her it was our first time there and asked for appetizer recommendations. She just shrugged her shoulders and said she liked the eggrolls. We went with the cheese curds. I ordered the BBQ pork sandwich which came with fries. I was hoping to get some potato salad with it. When I asked her about it she told me it's not made there. I immediately said no. That's disappointing a BBQ place doesn't make their own potato salad. The pork was ok a bit chewy for me. Tried for the first time despite living in the area over 15 years. The service was great. As soon as we sat down, the server took our drink order quickly and then took our meal order. The atmosphere was fine. Our food was good. The bbq sauce was tasty. I had the bbq chopped chicken plate with potato salad and fries. There was some pieces of hard cartridge in the chopped chicken which was breast meat. The fries and potato salad was delicious. My husband enjoyed his bbq sandwich. Moved to the Clover area recently and, in our search for meats to BBQ, we saw Courtney's on our way home and decided to check them out. Ordered a couple of their BBQ plates - outstanding. We also ordered the strawberry cake - absolutely delicious. Subsequently we purchased ribeyes, pork ribs, bacon, ground beef, and eggs to cook ourselves. The staff were friendly and offered preparation suggestions for the various meats. No chain store comes close to beating farm fresh products, and Courtney's is as fresh as can be. read more

I've went there maybe 5 times in my entire life because everytime it was terrible. You would think having BBQ in your name you would actually have BBQ items, I think they only have pulled pork. This restaurant has been on my list of places to visit since in showed up in a newspaper column over a year ago. The atmosphere is good, service is very good and the meat is excellent. Problem is the rest of the menu is not well thought out and deminishes from the total experience. The pulled porks is great with a good sweet taste and texture. Problem is the sause they serve with it. I am a fan of the Pepper Vinegar style somethings called Eastern NC. Their answer for that is something close to a Sweet and Sour Sauce off of a Chinese buffet. The other sauces don't add much either. The hushpuppies are the worst I have ever had with poor texture and taste and the French Fries were very starchy. People rave about this BBQ and i can see why. Can't rave about the rest of the sides and they need to rethink this portion of the menu. read more

I just received the "BARBECUE" issue of CHARLOTTE MAGAZINE in the mail yesterday, and Courtney's BBQ was one of the 13 BBQ restaurants written about. I figured that if CHARLOTTE magazine is featuring a full page write up about a restaurant with color photos, the restaurant must be good. Boy, was I wrong! We arrived on Friday evening a little after 6 PM to a half empty parking lot. There was a couple ahead of us at the hostess stand waiting, but no hostess. There were 2 cashiers across the aisle observing this - but no action on their part. One of the customers went into the main dining room to find her. She was in a corner chit-chatting with 2 other employees. She came out to the waiting area, gathered the 4 of us and seated us at our tables. Our waitress came right over. All went as it should. The hush puppies came out, and they were perfect. Hot and crunchy on the outside while warm and flavorful on the inside - slightly sweet with a mild taste of onion. Then our dinners came out - what a letdown. I ordered the large BBQ plate. The pork BBQ was from 2 different batches. One part was finely chopped and tasted of refrigerator, and one part tasted of fresh pulled pork. The dichotomy between the two was striking. The fully loaded potato had been prepared hours previously including the cheese and bacon. The potato flesh was translucent. The collard greens were BLAND. They were just boiled greens lacking any seasoning. To top it all off, everything was between Luke warm and room temp. GROSS. I looked for the waitress and found her in the same corner where the hostess was found chit chatting with 3 other employees. I told her the issue. I returned to my seat. She called an employee from the kitchen to get the plate and warm it up. He returned with the plate only barely warmer than when it went into the kitchen. My dining partner ordered the 1/2 rack of ribs. They were hot and flavorful, but the fire under them had been uneven and he could not eat part of the flesh as it had dried on to the bone. He had the same poor excuse of a potato and the fried okra. Overall it was a poor dining experience and one which we will not repeat. It was too much money for good hush puppies. Well...I had eaten take out from Courtney's before and it was pretty good. The barbecue is tasty and not too seasoned which I like (although several locals have told me that it used to be better before they expanded their restaurant and got 'so popular'). We ate off the Sunday buffet which offered - Barbecue, Beef Stew, Chicken Pot Pie, Fried Chicken, Collard Greens, Rice, Mashed potatoes and gravy, broccoli casserole, Macaroni and cheese, Green Beans, Sweet Potatoes and bread...I may have missed a couple of things, but that's the highlights...they were out of brisket on our our visit. I enjoyed the bbq, the chicken (minus the skin) was tasty, and the green beans were very good. The macaroni and cheese was just nasty...I am not sure what they add to it or how they cook it...my husband said it's just a can of cheese sauce...I don't know but I was NOT impressed! The mashed potatoes were good, I didn't try the gravy. The chicken pot pie was made with shredded chicken and no crust (my favorite part) - it was okay, but nothing special. You get a cup of peach cobbler with the buffet and although it was cold, it was pretty tasty. For $20 it was a decent offering and everything was home style Sunday cooking (which meant I didn't have to cook!!). Minus the mac n cheese...I would get everything else again. Our waitress was attentive and our glasses were never empty and everyone working there was friendly and helpful. This is apparently a local standby and I would probably opt for a menu item next time instead of the buffet. We'll return because it's close to our house, but I wouldn't be calling my friends to take them to my new favorite restaurant... We have eaten here twice and had them cater a party. Great place to go when you are feeling anorexic! You will gain weight. The buffet was average. On another night we ordered off the menu. The barbecue is pretty good. The food that was catered was fantastic and oh so plentiful. The guy that came to set up was very courteous and helpful. Highly recommend their catering. The staff was super nice and answered all my questions....which was a lot, but the ribs didn't even taste like BBQ. They had zero smoke flavor, zero flavor period and tasted like they where just baked. Same for the BBQ chicken...dry and no smoke taste. I guess the fact I didn't smell anything smoking outside should have told me not to order BBQ! The shrimp was good and their Friday night shrimp boil buffet looked really good too. Is this the perfect restaurant? No, but it's a wonderful place to eat and get a good quality meal. It's a restaurant that is trying to provide a good product in an inflationary environment. They will survive any negative comments but it's not fair to the owner and those working there. They have recently started brewing their own beer, have a nice bar area but a separate area for families to dine. BBQ was excellent as well as sides offered. Why oh why did we spend money at this dump? The food is bland, over cooked and just bad. We chose the drive through service during the Coronavirus quarantine and spent $30 on a meatloaf plate, chicken plate and a pound of bbq. The meatloaf was not even distinguishable as meat. It was so overcooked and covered in some really gross sauce. The green beans and mashed potatoes where just canned junk. The roll was like fresh dough and barely brown or baked. The hush puppies were somewhat edible. Threw most of it out. The chicken dinner wasn't even chicken. They gave us BBQ by mistake. So much for that. Best pulled pork bbq ever and I have had a lot of bbq from many places! Seriously, it was sooo good. Everyone else loved it as well. The vinegar sauce was phenominal! The pulled pork wasn't fatty, which is,important to me, had a great smoked flavor, moist, and loved the little burnt ends throughout!! Yummm!!! The sides that everyone had in our group were delicious as well....crispy hushpuppies, mac n cheese, baked beans and white coleslaw that will knock your socks off!
