My husband and I started taking our toddler here around 1.5 yrs and it's been a wrap ever since. Every time we come for their haircuts, our son is greeted with toys to play with and a lollipop to keep him content during his haircut. Quality barbershop you can bring the family to, highly recommend!!

Needed a cut near this area, glad this spot was open PARKING | Plaza parking. I didn't have any issues. SEATING | Seemed to be about 10 chairs with 3 barbers available VIBES | Not too flashy in this area. It's a very local area of San Diego with a mix of small businesses and chains. The spot itself has a nice local charm. You see pictures of usuals thanking the barbers here, especially Ray. You'll see classic sports memorabilia too. If you want to catch a game, they got a a tv for you to watch. SERVICE | Martin was great! Friendly, professional and skilled! TL;DR OVERALL | 5 stars. Came here to get my sons first hair cut and I'm satisfied the environment is super friendly and everyone seems super satisfied with their haircut. Toddler cut a cry free success! My 2 yr old had his 4th haircut today and it was absolutely wonderful! Mike took his time and was so calm and easy going with my toddler who is not a fan of cuts... I'm talking needing to pin the boy down for cuts. Mike listened to me when I told him what would set him off.... Loud clippers, vacuum and capes and made sure to use the quietest clippers at the last moment and even asked the guys around him not to use the air hose so it wouldn't scare my son. For the first time my son actually got a cut that we loved and the only tears he had was when we had to leave. The kid broke down crying outside and fought me until I got him in his car seat because he wanted to go back... apparently he likes the shop and the toys he had there. We drove to see Mike from an hour away and it was so worth the drive. We will always come back here, my son wasn't traumatized today, and nor was I. So grateful for Mike and Rays Barber Shop. Oh and there's old men sitting outside the shop all talking and hanging out which we thought was pretty awesome, they were all so nice to my son every time we walked by. read more

Ive been taking my now 5 year old to Ray's for a little over a year. I have nothing but good things to say. They are all so friendly and helpful. My son has had his hair cut by 3 different people and they have all been great. Great with the kids! Ive notice they even play music more kid friendly when kids are in there. Exceptional! Our son had his first real big boy haircut. I was nervous about how he would react to the clippers and a stranger but Mike was SO nice and patient. He built a rapport with him while we waited by chatting with him and showing him toys and what he was doing. At one point he picked up my son and was showing him.while he cut another guy's hair. Gave him a sucker and he started slow until he was 100% comfortable and then Mike worked his magic! Even saved us a lock of his hair in an envelope. Will absolutely be coming back. Awesome service!! Took my son there for the first time a couple of days ago. The gentleman that cut my son's hair was so patient, kind, and gentle. The Barber Shop was very kid friendly with a kid sized table that had some kid toys/activities. Overall, my son really liked visiting Ray's Barber Shop and we will definitely be back. read more

This was my family's first time here at this barbershop and first time for my 2 year old to get a cut. The guys were extra accommodating to the boys' needs. They alternated and offered sweets. We opted put of the cape since my kids were crying their heads off. They provided a nice and supportive place. My son hadn't had a haircut in some time. Brought him to Ray's Barber Shop without any knowledge of the shop or any recommendations. Walked in as was instantly greeted and made to feel welcome. On this hot Saturday, the air conditioner made the shop cool, and the offering of a cold beverage was a welcomed treat. The shop is a throw back to old school barber shops, filled with laughter and back and forth banter between the barbers and customers. Kara took on the task of cutting my sons hair. He's very tender headed so combing/brushing can be challenging. I can't express how gentle Kara was, an how my son never complained or showed any expression of ever being in pain from combing out his curls. The overall cut was perfect, and I would highly recommend this shop to anyone needing any type of cut. read more

My son is autistic and got his first haircut at a great clips in August. It was truly the most traumatic experience. We've avoided getting his hair cut again but with the holidays coming it was crucial. We called and they promised they could do it. My son walked right up to the chair and sat down. They took their time letting my son adjust to the equipment and let him touch everything to see it wouldn't hurt. They were SO PATIENT and had so much compassion. For a lot of parents, a haircut is just an errand. For us, it's a huge deal. And they made it easy. We'll definitely be back and recommend this barbershop to everyone we know! read more

This is your 1 stop shop. Found this shop 2 years ago, and I haven't left. The guys (and gal) here provide amazing customer service, regardless if you are in the chair or just sitting down waiting to be seated. They provide beverages for our convenience and are very personalble. They remember you, past conversations you had the last time you were there, and give you the best quality hair cut. Mike was absolutely amazing with my 2 year old! I would not have faulted him for kicking us out! He stole many lollipops and made Mike's job way more difficult than it needed to be! From experience, not many barbers take young kids and even less are happy about the experience. Mike never once made me feel like my son was an issue. This will be our new spot! read more

We've been looking for a barber to cut my 4 year old's hair for a while now. We've tried different places but his hair never came out quite right. He has a cowlick and when that part of his hair is cut short, it sticks straight up. I told my husband as he left to make sure he tells the barber about the cowlick issue. Well, my husband forgot...until Mike was cutting my son's hair and told my husband he was leaving it a little longer so that the cowlick doesn't stick straight up. FINALLY, a barber that knows what he's doing! My son hates haircuts and was totally grumpy the entire time and did not say a single word. But, Mike was really nice and tried talking to him anyway. You can tell he has kids because he was really patient and my little grumpy guy didn't seem to phase him. When my son got home he told me all about how nice Mike was and said "I was wrong, you were right, he didn't do a mohawk" (our kid is totally against having a mohawk and thinks that every barber is out to give him one. Who knows- kids are weird lol). My son looks super cute with his new haircut, we really love how it turned out. I'm so happy that we now have a go-to barber! My husband hasn't been quite happy with where he's been going, so he plans to go have Mike do his hair too! Oh, and the pricing is great! Thank you Mike! read more

I can't say enough great things about Ray's!!! We went there Sunday 12/6 (the day our world was shutting down again). We had family pictures scheduled and needed to be in alpine by 3:15. When we got to Rays at 2:10 they said they'd have time to cut and style my 2 boys. 7 and 8. There were 2 men mid cut and 2 men waiting. We waited for like 10 minutes but since I was in a crunch I asked the owner how long it might be as I normally don't mind waiting but I may need to go somewhere else. I explained the situation. He said no well do it. He looked to the parking lot and called one of the barbers from their car. Apparently the 2 men waiting were waiting specifically for the barbers already working. The barber who did my boys hair was fast and did such a great cut!!! My boys thought the barber was super cool and they looked soo handsome for our pictures. I did forget to get a picture so I will update when our pictures come in from the photographer. The only thing that was not great is the accept cash only and we didn't know that. BUT the owner was willing to let us come back and pay after pictures which was so nice. But my husband went and got cash front he gas station. Also their prices are great!!! read more

I have to give a raving shout out to our local Family owned barber shop!! We were so happily accepted in for my son's haircut tonight. You see he's a teen who's been wanting to go with his friends to get a haircut for the past many weeks. It hasn't happened and this is the last week of school before next year. We pulled in and they were clear signs that they were closing... The floors have been mopped & other cleaning was being done. I popped my head in and cautiously asked if they were able to do a cut for my son. They were absolutely wonderfully accommodating!!! LOUIE and FADY had surely already had a busy day, yet they welcomed us in warmly and gave my kiddo the best Haircut. They both had such uplifting, positive personalities. They made my day!! What LOUIE and FADY didn't know is that my kid lives with Autism and it's ver difficult for him to go to new places. They worked some kind of magic and now I have a happy and sharp looking kid!! This is my go-to barber shop every time I need a haircut! I applaud them for staying open while following covid-19 guidelines. They deserve the support of the community. Support small businesses during this time! Today I had Louie do my haircut today and he's a great guy, just like the rest of them! They make me feel welcomed and comfortable in their shop. Great customer service and they get my hair style right every single time. This barber shop is one of the only ones open at this time, so if you need a cut, Ray's is the way to go! Shoutout to Mike, Sam and Fadi as well. Family owned businesses are the best. As of 8/14 they do haircuts outside their shop because of state orders. First come first serve, no phone reservations. Weekends are busy, so if you want to avoid long wait times, try going on a weekday. Enjoy your haircut. They don't disappoint! read more

these guys rock out with their scissors out‍‍ and they are reeeeeemarkably grrrrrreat!!! i pay more however, they listen to me and, understand what i'm conveying to them or, "they're pickin up what i'm puttin down'!! if you're going, anywhere else well then, you're missin out my homeskillets!! they've a fabulous mafioso patronage on the walls which is intriguing to me so, live on the edge and getta real great awesomeness haircut n you'll be happy that chy'all took my advice!! thanx ray n guys!! i'll never go anyplace else!! visiting san diego on vacation, worth the drive to getta haircut n tell ray davey sentchya!! safe travels, god bless and, ciao!! I've been going to Rays Barber Shop for a couple of years, and let me tell ya, They know how to start conversations towards you, so you don't have to feel awkward waiting. I recently just had a haircut today from them, and let me tell you, IT'S AMAZING, I got a nice taper haircut to look fresh in front of all the girls at my school, and they be like. Damnnn isn't that Joseph from our High School, I'd be like YESSSIRRR I'm looking straight out of the bakery with this good ass fade, they were all like DAMNNNN, This place is the place to get all your haircuts from, no matter the timing, you call them up, they get you straight up. 10/10 recommended read more

I went to Ray's today after my son Joe said to go there. I haven't had a haircut from a barber shop in about 10 years. I walked in, and each one of the guys greeted me with a hello, how are you , and what can we do for you. I was put at ease by this show of friendliness. The place is very nice and I loved the interaction between the guys and the customers. It has been a very rough few weeks for me and everyone there made me feel like I had been going there for years. We drove up and the barber told us he was closed...I said awe man my kids are going to be so sad they really wanted haircuts.... guy looks at me and says how many? 2 . Alright you guys can be my last ones! The barbers name is Fadi and he did an amazing job on both of my sons hair and his costumer service skills on point. My boys were extremely comfortable, he talked with them and asked them what they wanted and actually listened. So impressed. He didn't try to rush us out and he took his time. Went in for a quick cut since my normal guy was out of commission due to an injury. Checked out Ray's after a friend recommended the place. I asked for Mike as I was told and waited about 20 minutes total as he was finishing up a client, and there was one other ahead of me. Mike was super professional. Asked if I had some photos to get an idea of what I usually get. He nailed it, and did it quickly. Very impressed by his work. He is super fast, my fade is super clean and the price was right at $20. Left a generous tip. Super nice guy, definitely has skills, and I will be back again for sure. read more

Our usual barber shop is closed for COVID, so we have Ray's a try. Glad we did! My boys, 11 and 6, got fantastic cuts, and this is the first time they haven't complained about their heads hurting during the shave with clippers. Ray and his nephew and son are friendly, and the nephew did a great job. The drive wasn't too bad from La Mesa. I will say, my daughter and I were put off by the not-so-sterile environment of the outdoors (cars being worked on and a couple of icky people swearing out front), but the boys didn't notice. read more

Great barber shop!!! I have been going there for 29 years and my experience has been awesome. Very friendly staff! Great atmosphere!!! Would recommend this business to everybody!!! This barber shop doesnt over charge for hair cuts. They are a 1-of-a-kind barber shop and I wouldnt go anywhere else. If you are new and want to check it out, go on the weekends and ask for "Ray". This barbershop this the place to go, I haven't been to a barbershop in like 2 years, I've been having my girl buzz my hair but we got sick of that and decided to try a local shop out. Hands down best barbershop I've ever been to. Got my hair cut by Louie and this guy is so funny I honestly think he should be a stand up comedian. They have excellent hospitality too. Honestly just come here. There's nothing I can say that could actually convey the experience accurately so I suggest just giving them a shot and seeing for yourself read more

Where do you go for boys haircuts during a quarantine time? I'd have to say without a doubt to Rays. My sons are so picky when it comes to having barbers touch their hair, but today we took a chance at this place. The whole time my sons felt as if they had been friends with each of the barbers and made it worth the wait. They take their own precautious for the safety of their clients. So yes, my 3 crazy young men will definitely be back getting cuts! read more

Since the COVID started it's devastation, my son has been growing the mangiest mop-top in memory. It was time to seek a warrior to battle the monster on his head. We found such a warrior at Ray's. They've moved out of their strong-hold and onto the street to fight the COVID hair styles and tame our heads! God bless these men. I went to Rays for the first time yesterday and I'm so glad I did. It was a great experience. Everyone there is very nice and you can tell that they love what they do!! My son graduated from El Capitan yesterday and these guys did an amazing job on his hair! I forgot the name of the barber but it was the second one to the far right I think he was the owner. Great experience and so glad my son found a new barber he can go to close to home. read more

In The Result Of Covid I lost my barber I'd been going to for the past 2-3 years so it was time to tryout a new shop. Today is my 3rd time getting cut and It's always been such a pleasure I had to leave these guys a review, black white yellow green regardless these guys are well educated and you'll leave with a crispy consistent cut every time. So,this was my first time here. I haven't had a haircut in a couple of months. I was straight up grizzly Adam's status. Walk in , just a chill OG barber shop vibe. Sports memorabilia etc. Louie sits me down in a chair right almost immediately (i was LUCKY,cuz it stays busy) then he proceeded to give me the best haircut I can remember in awhile. Every time I go there no matter what mood I'm in when I leave I'm smiling and having a great day they also they cut hair like no one else and I do mean no one else they do a great job great price they take care of the community the banter back and forth between him and his family that work there it kills me I feel like I'm at home I recommended highly to anyone old young Mike and the boys they got it going on. This is the best spot to get an affordable, high quality, and quick haircut in Lakeside! Mike does a great job with my hair and I always leave the shop feeling satisfied and very confident with my new cut. Today I took my 4 y.o. son to get his haircut. I was NERVOUS because my son normally screams and cries the entire time. I dread getting his hair cut. We saw Mike today and he was amazing! I HIGHLY recommend him to anyone! We walked out of the shop and my son said "he is nice!" So happy we found our barber! Not only was it a positive haircut trip, but his haircut looks great!!
