Rays is a delicious source of delicious old school Italian cuisine. The bread is clearly homemade and covered with a garlic seasoning and butter and served with a sauce that pairs perfectly. I personally love the calamari as an appetizer. My favorite dish is the eggplant parmigiana. Fantastic atmosphere and service!! read more

We're in town for my daughters volleyball tournament. After a long afternoon of games, we were all hungry. We tried Ray's, and oh my goodness it did not disappoint. The service was great, the food was excellent. We will definitely be back next time we're in town. read more

Amazing food! The escargot were very nice! I was expecting 4-6 large, in-shell style that might require some work for the reward. What we received were smaller, out of the shell variety. My two coworkers said they we not interested in trying the dish, which was new to them. Once the recognized my enjoyment they tried as well and loved! We each had a different dish and all were amazing! Small place, BYOB (wish I had), personable service and overall a lovely dining experience. Go early or make a reservation or prepare to wait. So for our Anniversary last night me, the wife and kids wanted to try this place out. Being new to Midland it was recommended. Walking in we were very excited and soon after we set the delicious bread came from a server. And then as we looked at the menu, we continued to sit and wait. Then another basket of bread came. Asked the lady if she knew who our waitress would be because we would like to place a drink order. She couldn't understand us. So we continued to sit and wait. 25 minutes and we were not even acknowledged. All the wait staff served every table around us, avoided us and acted like we didn't exist. I got up as the host watched me he knew I was coming to speak to him. I asked him how much I owed for the bread because we were going to take our business elsewhere. He just said I'm sorry, turned around and walked away. He proceeded to talk to a new party that came in the door. I got my wife and kids and as we were walking out he told my wife he was sorry and she responded I do not think you are because you did nothing to try to correct the situation and just walked away. He then raised his voice to her and said actually ma'am I did and shut the door. I don't know if we didn't have the right look, or because we had children, but treating us like this was very upsetting and disappointing. Ruined what was supposed to be a great night for our family and a great first experience out in our new home town. read more

Yumm. Rays is awesome. It's BYOB which is amazing. This place is always busy so it's good to make a reservation--especially on the weekends. If not, they can usually accommodated walk ins depending on the party sizes. I really liked their bread that they give you as an appetizer. Always fresh and soft. I really liked their pastas. One of my go to was always the Chicken Fortuna or Chicken Jerusalem. Their seafood pasta is also very good. We did try their pizzas once and wasn't a fan. Overall Rays is a great spot in midland. Not to mention the prices are very affordable. (Why bother making your own pasta when you could go to Ray's?) Tried their dessert and they are pretty good. Although they are not house made they are quite delicious. The Italian one is my personal favourite. Very light but hits the spot. Staff is always very friendly and even though they are very busy with other tables they never make you feel that way. Great spot! read more

I ordered veal parm. It came with a side salad. Salad came out first. I expected an Italian salad. It was a very unoriginal iceberg lettuce salad with your typical Italian dressing from a bottle. Then the entree came out. They brought me chicken parm. I had to correct them on my order and then wait another 15-20 min for the correct dish. Now while the menu does not say it comes with a side, I thought surely it would be served on a small bed of pasta. This IS an Italian restaurant. Nope! I received a small oval dish with nothing but an over cooked piece of veal parm in it. The meat was dry and tough. Greatly disappointed in my one and only visit here. read more

I have had such different experiences here. Once was great, the other times have been horrible. Dry pastas with hardly any sauce, so disappointing. They must have more than one cook and one does not know what they are doing or care about their food. The stuffed mushrooms are SO good though and I do like that it is BYOB if you dine in. Used To Be Good But Not Any More I have been to Ray's on 4 occasions. The first time, I had the lasagna and it was pretty good. Second time I had a pizza and it was also pretty good, not great. Third time, I had the veal Parmesan and the veal was mushy and the sauce was quite bland. The last time, I had the Fettuccine Alfredo with chicken and it was bad - the sauce was runny and bland, the chicken didn't seem to have any spices on it, and the pasta was undercooked. Only took 3 bites and stopped. What surprised me was the waitress did not ask if there was a problem and apparently no one in the back noticed a plate came back uneaten. I stick with the chicken Parmesan and pizza, but I've tried others as well and everything is delicious. Don't let the tiny strip-mall outside look fool you it is really nice in there! My second time here. The first was incredible. Top to bottom. Last night I ordered the lasagna which had a funny taste and was extremely soupy and underwhelming. The $9 cannoli was delicious but $9?? For a cannoli? Totally not worth it. I travel for business so I'm out here monthly. Will probably give them another shot as my first time so was great. I really want to like Rays Italian. But I can't help but be disappointed every time. I recently ordered the veal parmigiana. The marinara sauce tasted no better than marinara from a jar. For my daughter, we ordered ravioli and the same red sauce came on it. (It's $9 for a kids meal!) To top it off, they did not have the scallops, so off the cuff, my husband ordered the filet. Once it came, he had to wait for a steak knife. It wasn't cooked to his liking. And we find out at the end that it was $70! When I went ...the staff had a communication problem and made me wait forever but the food ...well, I ordered the lasagna...cant go wrong right? wrong! They apparently have their own take on lasagna cuz its supposed to look like a cut pie with layers...well this one.... the pasta was on its sides spiraling inside this oval bowl thing and the meat was between the paste and the cheese on top and it was watery and bland..I did not enjoy it. On this visit, we ordered take-out. Overall, the food and service was very good. The kitchen personnel should remember to prepare the pasta dishes and fried appetizers after the pizza and chicken are complete. The pizza was right-of-the-oven hot, but the Fettuccine Alfredo & Chicken Marsala were cold and dry. We have a microwave to deal with these minor issues, so no big deal. We ordered fried mozzarella for the first time and either they sat in the window for a while or they just weren't fried all the way. They were very hard and ended up straight in the trash. Ray's is a great restaurant the majority of the time, but every once in a while we experience these minor snafus. read more

The service was great and the waiter was amazing, the only thing that I didn't like was the sauce for the Carbonara. It wasn't creamy and was really oily. I am updating my review... after several trips back, service as been really really slow. ( like over an hour slow). Food is good, just seems like the restaurant has too many tables for the kitchen. If they could turn tables over faster instead of adding more, slowing things down would be a better approach. We ordered take out tonight... the order was wrong (so wrong I think she just forgot.) We decided on a whim to order to-go from here one day and I thoroughly regret that decision. I got the ravioli...disgusting! Watery "tomato" sauce, tough pasta and no flavor- honestly I would have enjoyed a can of Chef-Boy-R-Dee more than this, and I don't eat canned food. My husband got the seafood alfredo or something similar and it smelt and tasted like putrid fish. I attempted to order a piece of tiramisu but was told that it was FROZEN SOLID- what kind of Italian place doesn't make their own tiramisu?! They offered me something else, I don't recollect what I chose, maybe Italian cream cake...and it came from distributor box as well. Will never return here. read more
