We've had them for a…read morefew weeks now and still every time I pass through them, I applaud myself for having found FCR Fence & Deck and having had the wisdom to move forward with their company. From beginning to end the experience was great. I'd reached out to multiple companies, planning to take numerous bids, but amazingly found that few were unresponsive. FCR on the other hand was quick to respond to my inquiry on their website Contact page and were quick to set up the estimate appointment. The downside was I needed to wait two weeks. In the meantime I met the Project Manager from another company and was pleased with the experience, except that I never received a bid even though we texted several times. Rob Quinlan from FCR was similarly on time, but his amiability, professionalism, and communication, both in person and in subsequent texts, set him apart. He has excellent follow through, too, as our gates attest! He also really knows the ins and out of gates. When I said I wanted ours to be pushed open from the street side, Rob asked if we had a pool. It turns out that if one has a swimming pool, the gate legally has to swing out to the street. Rob explained that pulling a heavy gate is harder for little kids than pushing it, making it less likely they can access a backyard and drown! I was so impressed with Rob that I told him then and there that I wanted to move ahead with FCR. I received the quote and a contract later that day. It showed the options for the two different types of Redwood. Rob had explained that the photos one sees of beautiful fences are always made of the more expensive wood, from the heart of the tree. I had said that was the one I wanted, but it was still great to see options and prices laid out. I was able to sign the contract electronically. It was another two weeks before the actual installation, but the day of the work was fast and smooth. The crew and Rob arrived separately and on time. We all discussed every detail afresh, this time with Hector and Paco weighing in with their own expertise. There was some discussion among the men as to how and where to install the posts for the new double gate so that it would stay strong for the long term. I was consulted as well and made it clear that longevity and easy operation were paramount to me. I also mentioned that I was nervous about the possibility of there being a pipe to the house in that area, one that was private and therefore not marked by the utility companies. (Rob had done his company's legal duty of arranging the 8-1-1 Dig Ticket ahead of the work day). Rob took me seriously and walked out to the sidewalk, saw that there was indeed a drainage outlet there and told Hector to dig slowly and attentively. Rob left for the day and Hector and Paco got to work. Hector did find the water pipe about 12" down, right where the post was supposed to go. He had me come out and see the situation. He gave me two options: place the post over the pipe, in which case it would lack endurance for the long term, or go two feet down in the hole he had already dug closer to the house. I opted for the deep hole and the reliable fence. I was glad to have been consulted. I was grateful for Hector's having found the pipe without damaging it. Both gates and the small fence surrounding them were completed between 8am and 3pm. The areas were all cleaned up. Hector had me come out and assess the work. The gates have easy and sturdy hardware on them. They open and close with ease, swinging into the backyard as specified. They're attractive, substantial, and show every sign of enduring. I knew from the good communication that I could simply hand the check to Hector. Rob was going to come by to make sure I was happy but I said I was exceedingly pleased and insisted he didn't need to. He followed up with a text nevertheless to double check and I gave him a glowing, detailed review. Later that day I received an invoice showing I had paid. I couldn't be any happier than to have trusted this work to FCR Fence & Deck.

We discovered he also does tile work and because the deck project went so well, we had Rolando and his team tile our half bath and the master bath. Came out beautiful! All within budget.

We get strong winds that can blow a weave or a wig off a person's head, and it is hotter then hot in the summers reaching past 100 degrees, and when it rains, its nice to smell the rain and see it coming down. Now it is July 2026, and the fencing is 26 years and 2 months old. You can't tell me (as I will attach photos, that this fencing didn't need to be done.....because it did. We had gotten a bid from a neighbor who lived down and around the corner from us, as his father owns a fencing company. We had asked him and his gf to provide us a quote a LONG while back and that quote was pratically another TRUCK payment and then some. So we held off. Then one windy day, on 12/14/2024, the wind blew our fence over and the shared property line fence over. The tenant living next door in the little shack named Pablo, came to help us put the fencing back up. He even knew and said it was just a temporary fix until the next wind came. Since then the fence has fallen over 3 more times to 2026. Then on yet another windy day, my tarp flew over the fence into my neighbor's backyard - but this neighbor's home lives in Steven S. Stroud, and so my husband and I walked over to that neighbor's house to see about getting my tarp back from her backyard. We knocked and no one was home. So we left her a note introducing ourselves and when she got come from she messaged us and we went over to go grab it. She had my husband get the tarp because her backyard slants up and she wasn't about to climb the steep hill. So while standing there and Johnny's retrieving the tarp, I had asked her did she use to do her fencing. She too, told me about the neighbor who's dad owns the fencing company, and she also said that when she asked him for a quote, his quote he gave her was INSANE! So with some research, she then found A&J Fencing. This is where I called them and asked for a quote. Scott Knolbloch came and gave me a quote. Because I share property line with two other neighbors, he informed me about the 30-Day Good Neighbor Law. Later that night, I got the quote from Scott regarding the fencing that was much needed which was 26 years old, falling over 4 times, due to rotted and deteriorating wood, with nails, screws and staples protruding through onto my side from the neighbors side where they tried to repair the fencing themselves. The quote was sooooo reasonable, I had to relook at it twice!! Nutshell, we ended up proceeding with the quote provided from Scott with A&J Fencing. We were able to get both neighbors onboard with paying their half of the fencing after provided and sending out Certified 30-Day Good Neighbor Law Letter. We are soooo pleased with the work. Rigo and his crew showed up at 8am on Thursday, July 16, 2026. Knocked on my door and I gave the OK to begin. They immediately started unloading the needed and necessary tools, and man o man.....they made taking down the fence soooo easy!!! Next came the digging and before I knew it -- the posts were being put up.....followed by the redwood wood panels. The fencing was done in 5 hours! (They took a lunch break too!). Overall..... A HUGE SHOUT OUT for coming to my property and providing me an AMAZING AND REASONABLE QUOTE...... A HUGE SHOUT OUT to Rigo and his crew for tearing down and putting up my fencing, my double iron gate and my single gate. Yall ROCK!! A HUGE SHOUT OUT to Vanessa who I wrote my check too. She was soooo professional and sweet! A HUGE SHOUT OUT to Andrea, to hearing me rant about other stuff (she knows ;) ) and helping me with keeping me aboard on all neighbors following though with their halves of payment! Scott came out quickly to understand the project and our needs and provided us with a competitive quote. Our project was a hogwire fence around the parameter of our front yard, which included a gate that bridge the gap between the new fence and the side of our house. He quoted me the same day he came out, and once the quote was signed, he had his team out here within a week. The workers were prompt, professional, friendly, and worked fast. They finished in half a day and cleaned up afterwards, which was nice. The final result was fantastic, much better than I imagined, and all of our neighbors came out to compliment us on the fence. Working with A&J was fast, easy and painless (which is hard to come by with construction). Highly recommend!

I apologize for this late review. I hired G&G summer of 2025 to build a 15x22 PVC deck to replace a…read more9x12 redwood deck that was built in 1995. They did a great job and we are very happy with the new deck. I was on a tight time schedule to get the new concrete patio and walkway, and then the deck, done before hosting a celebration of life for my best friend. Gary explained the challenges associated with such a tight schedule (so much so I had to ask if he was trying to talk himself out of a job) which I understood. However, he made an effort to include some weekend/OT work ahead of time to make it happen, and for that he is well respected. It has been a year and the product is holding up well and looks great. In hindsight I would have rather gone with darker, medium brown rather than the light color because of muddy dog prints, but it is still awesome. Gary insisted they will be available and responsive if I have any issues or small repairs going forward. This was a primary factor in hiring G&G so I will update the review when that time comes. I highly recommend G&G Decking and would work with them again.

We live in the Berkeley Hills it was also time to install an alternative to wood (for fire safety). After doing some research, including a neighbor's recommendation, we found Duce. They did a great job for us. Susan was professional throughout the process, from planning to installation. And she or Kayla returned our calls in a timely fashion. The crew was hard working and they worked quickly. They left the site very neat. They were done in 3 days. At the time they did the job Duce used Knotwood aluminum fencing. Knotwood offers a wide range of colors to choose from. And compared to the company our neighbors used, it shipped the material much more quickly. We wanted the fence to look like the fence we were replacing and we couldn't be happier. Showing how Susan takes care of her customers, we requested a small change. She took care of this without any additional charges. As far as cost goes, metal fencing can cost a lot more than wood. From talking to other neighbors who installed metal fences, I'd say Susan offers competitive pricing. One more positive about aluminum fencing is it's going to last a long time.

In both instances, there were multiple employees working at the front desk area on their computers. While they may have been busy, no one acknowledged or greeted us when we walked in. Even a simple "Hi, we'll be with you shortly" would have gone a long way. My wife spent about 10 minutes browsing the showroom during one visit and we still were not approached. We ultimately left both times without speaking to anyone. We understand that some showrooms operate by appointment, and if that is the standard protocol, that is perfectly fine. However, a quick greeting, asking whether we had an appointment, or offering to schedule one would have created a very different experience. We did not have this issue at Golden State Lumber or Ashby Lumber, where we were promptly acknowledged and assisted. Unfortunately, based on our experience, we will be moving forward elsewhere.

We sent our kitchen assembly instructions ahead of time to make sure they were aware. My overall sense is that Carlos is fairly capable and experienced but either his team or him are not as careful as we had damages to our finished wood toe kicks and our lacquer cabinets looked like they had been dragged over nails as they were being assembled. I didn't appreciate that they made 0 mention of it at all and I had to point it out. As the homeowner, I essentially had to baby sit them for 5 days through the install since it felt like they were incapable / unwilling to read the kitchen cabinet installation instructions in detail and I caught several mistakes early on during the cabinet assembly that made me hesitant to leave it unattended. Carlos's attitude was particularly bad through the entire experience as well. Always made it seem like we were inconveniencing him or being too nit picky even if we caught some mistakes. At one point, he even threatened to quit after the assembly but before the installation simply because he had underestimated the complexity of the project. We did have a 1 day delay due to some plumbing / electrical issues but that's pretty typical as far as kitchen cabinet installations go AFAIK. In the end, they were able to get all the kitchen cabinets installed, albeit with a lot of effort from my end due to the more custom nature of the project. The price was affordable and the work was solid (minus the scratches) but for me the bad attitude wasn't worth it.

Ryan of RC fencing just completed our side fence and it was an outstanding job. It was 120 ft redwood, and was a challenge because of old fence post remnants and roots. All the workers were very pleasant, and I would use RC again every time. If you want quality use RC instead of one of the wham bang companies. read more

Our first project was a large fence around our steep backyard. Matt met with us and our neighbors multiple times to finalize placement and coordinated on what needed to be cleared. His team completed the fence at record speed, and the redwood blends beautifully into the forested backdrop. It looks fantastic--and our dog loves his new wonderland. The second project was a much more complex like-for-like replacement of a 30-year-old deck. Matt guided us on what to keep, what to upgrade, and walked us through material and design options. We chose TimberTech decking with a redwood and hog wire railing, and the result is stunning. Despite unexpected permitting challenges with the City of Oakland, Matt stayed fully engaged, coordinating with our structural engineer and always making himself available. His team demolished and rebuilt the deck remarkably quickly, and the finished product has transformed our home. It's added so much gathering space, and every time we're out there, it feels like we're on vacation. We recommend Matt without hesitation for any fence or deck project.

The original fence was designed so the corner post was shared, making it feel balanced and intentional from all three properties. The new install prioritizes one long run and drops a post mid-span to branch off for the neighbors. It's not as clean or considered, and you can tell. To be clear, if they had simply followed the original footprint, this would have been a perfectly acceptable fence. It's sturdy. But the materials are budget and there's no craft to it, so getting the design wrong makes an already basic fence that much harder to fix. Communication was poor throughout: no response when we confirmed our availability, then two guys showed up unannounced on a day our neighbor's dog was in the backyard. There was also a 10-foot measurement error in the quote. We hired a company instead of DIY-ing because we wanted something thoughtful and neighbor-considerate. This felt like they just got the fence up and moved on, and we're the ones living with the result for the next decade.

Gary explained the challenges associated with such a tight schedule (so much so I had to ask if he was trying to talk himself out of a job) which I understood. However, he made an effort to include some weekend/OT work ahead of time to make it happen, and for that he is well respected. It has been a year and the product is holding up well and looks great. In hindsight I would have rather gone with darker, medium brown rather than the light color because of muddy dog prints, but it is still awesome. Gary insisted they will be available and responsive if I have any issues or small repairs going forward. This was a primary factor in hiring G&G so I will update the review when that time comes. I highly recommend G&G Decking and would work with them again.

Cirino's team (Raul and Oscar) arrived promptly yesterday and today, worked all day to get it done in 2 days! The fence (and retaining wall) is very sturdy with 4 x 6" posts and beautiful. Another team will be by later on to stain the fence for longer life. I will be ready with another ice chest full of bottled water and electrolyte drinks to keep Cirino's hard-working team hydrated and fed while they beautify my backyard. Do not use this company unless you want nothing but problems. We ordered a gate and my contractor…read morehad a construction schedule put together that was passed on to Morgan's. There was a pre-construction meeting and dates again were discussed a week before start of construction. The gates were going to be installed in 3 - 4 weeks. Dean told us he wasn't sure he could do the 3 weeks but could do 4. The gates ended up going in almost 11 weeks later 7 weeks behind schedule. The worst part was the communication, on every occasion we had to reach out to Dean and say so we are good for Monday the date Dean provided, to be told oh no we are delayed two weeks and given a new date and told it was the iron company's fault. Then again two weeks later no contact so we reach out, good for tomorrow... no delayed two more weeks because of the powder coating. Then two weeks after that same excuse, the powder coater. Not once did Dean initiate the conversations. We had to stop dealing with Dean because he would not return calls so the owner Bob said to contact him directly and he would take care of things. After almost canceling the gates, they were installed almost two months late. We had a bunch of problems with the install from an opener being installed not level and we had to point it out. Then the same opener wouldn't function correctly and the gate never shut the same every time. They finally replaced the motor and it shut correctly. One month later the hinge pin on one of the gates broke so they had to come out again and replace the hinges. Now the gate is not level and still really doesn't shut correctly. The owner Bob came out for a second time 3 weeks ago because when they installed the new hinges the gate is not level, I also showed him a board that I looked down at and was split. I expressed my frustration with the communication through the whole process again with him and he said I'll have Dean come out and check the level and replace the board. After looking at the gate there are multiple boards split from not pre-drilling the holes .... guess what no call... no show for over 3 weeks. Sad way to do business, gate still not level, doesn't shut flush and multiple split boards.

Outstanding Craftsmanship & Customer Service…read more I can't say enough great things about David and the entire team at Kodiak Construction. They came out to do exposed aggregate concrete work at my home, and somehow managed to match my existing 20-year-old concrete almost perfectly. The finished work blends in beautifully, which I honestly didn't think would be possible given the age of the original concrete. What impressed me even more was their commitment to making sure I was completely satisfied. After part of the work had already been completed, I requested a change. Even though it meant additional work, David was incredibly accommodating. He came back, tore out a portion of the newly poured concrete and redid it for me -- at no additional charge. That level of customer service and commitment to making a customer happy is extremely rare these days. David was an absolute pleasure to work with from beginning to end. The entire crew was professional, courteous, hardworking, and extremely respectful of my home and property. Thanks to David for a positive contractor experience! :)…read more He made sure we got the look we wanted for our new staircase and pathway, even making and dropping off samples to test out the colors and seals. It looks great, and his team were professional and friendly. Everything was on time and early. The work and materials are high quality to last a long time, worth the value. They didn't try to cut corners. He gave me instructions to water the concrete to prevent cracks and included a stabilizer, which is something previous contractors did not do (one of our other concrete pads cracked all over pretty soon after). We used a Sierra base color with a Desert Tan release color and a sealer that gave it the brown / tan finish I was looking for. I will definitely be using their services again!
