Nick is a licensed general contractor and extraordinary carpenter with a great eye for detail. He is classically trained with a BFA in sculpture from University of the Arts in Philadelphia and exhibit buildout at SFMOMA. He checked all the boxes at our first on-site meeting and revisits. He was on time, on budget, an excellent listener and terrific communicator, highly skilled craftsman and problem solver, true to form with the best tools and matching materials, self-proclaimed nit-picky perfectionist, fine finish matching and all around nice guy. Nick is honest, quick to respond, perfect on the details, has very high standards, and is very caring and positive, gracious and modest. He used the existing design not reinventing the wheel and most likely would have improved the gateway design given the chance. Nick is an exceptionally talented contractor with many years of creative problem solving. To repeat, he has a great eye for detail and sculpted, integrated, seamless design with unique elements evidenced by his extensive portfolio. I never felt the need to micromanage him. He is terrific at remote site communication and management. We live in the East Bay and the owner is in Hawaii which adds a level of complexity to remote destination work. We moved into a home, and within a week, we started having problems with our furnace and water…read moreheater. The HVAC guy our home warranty company sent out couldn't find a problem, even though we were smelling gas and the heater wouldn't come on half the time. We had been referred to Warner Custom Homes for other remodeling work we were considering. The timing was fortuitous. Since Sean came out to provide a quote on these other projects, we asked if he would also have his HVAC guy look at our furnace, since, despite what the other contractor told us, we weren't convinced there wasn't a problem. This was the best thing we could have done. The HVAC guy (Jack) was able to find multiple problems with our furnace and ductwork, and make the repairs quickly and on budget. Because we were in the middle of a cold snap, he even offered to come out on the weekend to finish the job. We also had a heater/a.c. installed in our master bedroom. The electrician who came out on that job (Kevin) not only did what we hired him to do with the utmost efficiency and professionalism, he also found substandard electrical work someone else had done, and came back later in the day, staying until 8 p.m., to fix it. When crawling under the house, he also noticed some ducts that weren't connected. We would never have known if he left the shoddy work unfixed (it wasn't part of the project we paid him for, after all) or if he hadn't crawled under the house to connect those ducts. But as he said, "Even if you didn't know, I'd know." He even pointed out that for the cost of drywalling the hole where the old unit once was, we could put in a window instead. Sean also stepped in to quickly replace our water heater after PG&E redtagged it, offering us a discount just because it would "help him sleep better at night" knowing we were safe in our home. These are just a few examples of the type of service you can expect from Warner Custom Homes: Work done on budget, on time, with the highest standards and quality of work I've ever seen. They really did go above and beyond, and I would trust them to do any work in my home.
