Ryan is awesome! What was supposed to be a stop for a marketing visit ended with me walking out the door with my first pair of Mizunos and a pair of socks. I have annoyingly flat, wide, feet, but after just a few observations Ryan came back with 3 choices. My choice just happened to be on sale, so I feel like I got a hell of a deal. Complete opposite of a previous experience I had with a different shoe fitting store. Great local store for all things running. I went here to get a new pair of running shoes for an upcoming marathon. The guy that helped me out spent a good amount of time watching my walking and jogging form. He then brought out a few pairs of shoes to try on. He also looked at my old pair of running shoes and explained that based on my wear patterns that I had been wearing the wrong type of shoe (I had a pair of Brooks for overpronation that were recommended by another store). I ended up with a pair of Mizunos and my training runs have been night and day when compared to my prior runs with my old shoes. read more

Went by to.grab Amphipod to carry my FOB and discovered this was in fact an old RunTex. Staff and owner are old school RunTex staff trained in the art of offering great customer service, willing to explain things to you and answer all of your questions. My needs have changed since a back injury a few years ago, and the staff gave me the best customer service, including a gait analysis of my walk and run. I signed up for Yelp because I wanted to write this review. This weekend I drove to Ready to Run because my trusty old pair of Mizuno running shoes -- the only other pair of running shoes I've been professionally fitted for -- no longer had treads in the places where I need 'em to run Lake Austin. I highly recommend shopping here for your running shoes -- the store is Austin owned and operated, a professional runner helped me figure out the best shoes for me, and best of all the people at this store are friendly, informed, and genuine. I had a great experience (details below, if you're interested). I am more of a casual 5K-er/Jillian Michaels DVD-er. No matter your athleticism level, there is no need to feel nervous or pressured in this store. Parking was easy. The store is well-lit, clean and feels spacious but is as big as the family shoe store I remember from childhood. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by the young guy working the floor. I'd brought my old shoes, and the man looked at the treads to make sure this type of shoe was working for me, and looked at the size. Because I was open to other brands, he returned with three different pairs -- Mizunos, Asics, and Brooks. We talked in detail about comfort and fit with each, and as others have said, I jogged in each with the guy checking my gait. The store has a special designated running strip inside. There were more friendly staff behind the counter, though the man from the floor checked me out. I was given the option of either $10 off for turning in my old pair of shoes or no discount but a free pair of socks. The price was affordable given shoe quality and was comparable to my last running store experience. They saved my shoe information in the computer so that I don't need to haul shoes with me next time or if family/friends want to get my feet a holiday/birthday gift, they can make sure to pick something that fits. read more

I'm not a runner; I lift and cross train. Some running stores carry training shoes, none carry a large array. Hence, when I decided to commit to this path, I needed to visit several stores to try all of the current recommended shoes. Ready to Run was my second store. The first store was manned by a marathoner, unsurprisingly, who did not take a deep interest in my quest. I ended up purchasing a pair of Nike Metcon 4, a best selling and highly regarded cross training shoe. These are good but hard shoes. The store only had the 4 and not the Metcon Free X, a lighter and more cushioned shoe. I'm an older lifter who has recently lost 70+ pounds. I have abused my joints with obesity for over 45 years and wanted to see if I had other options. I drove to Ready to Run and met Charles, a runner older than myself and experienced in fitting folks for many years. He listened to my story, had me roll up my pants, and walk the runway. We determined that I had a neutral gait. Charles got me two pairs of very stable, low drop shoes. Both were wider than my feet, which generally isn't a problem for lifters but may be a problem with cross training and side to side motion. I asked if he had the New Balance Minimus 40? He did not but had the Minimus 20. As the name implies, these shoes are barely there. Charles noticed that I had been using some orthotics in my previous training shoes. We moved them to the Minimuses and the experience totally changed. It was clear I now had some shoes that gave me a strong contact with the floor, more cushioning than the Metcon 4s, and, most importantly, a partner in discovering the right shoes for me. I bought the Minimuses and a new pair of orthotics. Together and after applying a new customer/gym member discount, they cost less than than the Metcon 4s. We'll see how these work out. It is very clear that Ready to Run and Charles want my business. I suspect that I'll be able to explore, through special orders with them, getting me the perfect shoe. This is why you use specialized retail stores and not scattershot purchases from the Internet. I'll buy my lifting shorts from the 'net but not my shoes. I'm glad I found Ready to Run. I hope they expand their lifting/cross training shoe selection. read more

I had an excellent experience buying new running shoes today. I made the mistake of buying my last pair of shoes because they were on sale at one of the big chain stores. Well, my toes paid the price after a long training run this past weekend. I knew I needed professional advice picking out the right running shoes and I got that and more while at Ready to Run. They measured my feet, watched me stand, walk, and run in the store, and suggested several pairs that I was able to try out. I walked out of there with brand new shoes and some great advice on exercises to strengthen my hips to try and avoid repeat IT band issues. Went in for a brand new pair of running shoes. They do the whole shebang, measuring your feet, and watching you walk, run, etc. Brought out 3 different pairs that all felt good, but the 1st pair was the most comfortable. Asked if they had any Asics that would fit me well, and she brought out a pair that also fit great. Julie helped me decide which pair fit the best; it was a tough decision. I have been a runner for a few years now, having run cross country in high school and with clubs in college. Today, I went into Ready to Run looking for some new shoes to start me off training for my first marathon. Originally, going to Ready to Run was just convenient because of its location, but after talking to Ryan and Scott for a good 10 minutes, just about my pronation and running history, I realized that Ready to Run is more than just a convenient store. I ended up not purchasing a pair of shoes, as I wasn't ready to commit to changing brands, however, the store was very accommodating in allowing me to try different options, and the best part was their mini indoor track to run along. I've never experienced that before in a running store. The staff is very helpful and offer good suggestions as they're quite versed in their products. I bike on Parmer and Ronald Regan a lot, and have stopped in the store to catch a breather and fill up on water. I began running a few weeks ago more seriously and wanted to replace my old shoes. I found Ready to Run on Yelp and I'm glad I did. I went in and had my feet measured, and the employee watched me jog and walk both with and without shoes. He brought three pairs of shoes to try - all around the same price point ($110-$140) and the first ones I tried on I bought.
