We have eaten here a few times. Last night, no one felt like cooking, so we decided to stop in because it is close. Our service was fast and friendly. I didn't catch the guy's name, but he is a good waiter...attentive and responsive. The chips and salsa are really good and our waiter quickly refilled it when we scarfed the first batch. My margarita was OK. It's a mix if I had to guess...a bit too sweet for my taste but OK. I had the Carne Asada with chicken. DH had a burrito that they used to describe as "big as your head" although the menu verbiage has changed. Both were good but not great. The place was hopping and our service was quick. We will probably return the next time we crave Mexican and are too lazy to cook or drive into GR. read more

we just got home from trying to eat dinner at this restaurant. We live in Caledonia and we try to shop local small businesses. Every time we go out to eat my daughter is a big advocate to go here because she loves Mexican food. We typically give in. We probably eat here once every couple of weeks. The past year the food is gotten pretty bad. Tonight was by far the worst. We waited 45 minutes and when we got our food it was cold. I informed the girl our food was cold and she said it wasn't their fault because her kitchen was slammed. She asked me if I would like her to take the food off the bill. I informed her that I really didn't want to pay for cold food. She was very nasty when she asked if she would take it off the bill. After I informed her I didn't want to pay for cold food without talking about options she grabbed our plates and dump the food in the trash. I went to the front counter to talk to a manager she continue to rant and rave that is not their fault the kitchen is slammed and people are quitting. I informed her it's not my fault my food was cold and I'd like not to be part of a temper tantrum where everybody's looking at me. The manager came out and backed her up and wanted to charge me for the food she had just thrown away I informed him that now I will not be paying for the food because the food is in the trash. No I can understand a bad night but never again will I spend a nickel there. We will never go there again my daughter understands why we will never go there again and she agrees. I typically never want to see a small business fail that's why we shop small business in local but this one I hope fails. I don't know what has happened in the past year but since things have reopened for Covid the food has been worse than what it was and their service has been bad however never this Bad. I would not recommend this place to anyone there are a lot of restaurants in Caledonia that have good food and good service. This place seems to be family run which is wonderful but it seems like the entire family has just become very very nasty. The server was great. On top of it and knowledgeable about the tequila selection. The food was great we had chimichangas and enchilada tapatias. The Banana Chimi desert is awesome! We stopped here for an early dinner after a short trip to Grand Rapids. I was a bit hesitant after reading the reviews on Yelp. We had heard from friends that the food was pretty good so we took a chance. We got there at 3:30 on a Monday afternoon...definitely not prime time! Once seated, we were offered drinks immediately. The menu is huge...often a sign that the food will come from atrip through the microwave. I ordered th carnitas verde y rojo, my wife ordered tacos de Asada. I also ordered a Modelo Especial draft (25 oz, $3.75, my wife, a Negro Modelo (12oz, $3.99). Our food arrived in 15 minutes. My meal had twice as much pork than I was expecting. The pork was perfcectly cooked, moist and very flavorful. The sauces were homemade and very well done. My wife's tacos were very good. They came wrapped in foil with double tortillas...not the chef's first rodeo. There were three tacos, steak, chorizo and chicken all nicely seasoned. This meal came with enough beans and rice to feed a small army. Even the sides were very good...homemade and unusual. Stop in here you won't be disappointed. BTW, I don't work there. read more

Decent. Came here for lunch on a weekday with my wife. We ordered the cheese dip, which was a combination of white American and peppers. Not very authentic, but admittedly quite tasty. I ordered the vegetarian fajitas, which were green peppers, white onions, tomato, and mushrooms. This is more or less what I expected but I take issue with the use of canned mushrooms in a dish like this, where mushrooms are almost the "meat" of the dish. This would have been much more satisfying with portobello mushrooms or even just fresh white button shrooms. Also, it would be nice if they served the veggie fajitas with cheese since there's no meat alongside the veggies. Beans might be a nice addition, too. My wife had huevos rancheros - over medium eggs in a rich red chile sauce served with tortillas, rice and beans and cheese. The sauce was very flavorful, even if it was a little on the mild side. This is my favorite Mexican restaurant. I go here 3-4 times a month. I have had a variety of dishes, and the only thing I can think of to make it better is less pepper in the ground beef. However, that is my own personal taste. My favorite is the El Trio. Free chips and salsa are the best in GR. I order their salsa in a container to take home. Don't forget to try their queso dip. Very good The margaritas are very good, even if from a mix. The largest beer is HUGE and is not very expensive. The service is tremendous, and I have never had anything wrong or mixed up. Arrived 5:30 on a Saturday night. No wait. Quickly served drinks and excellent chips and salsa. I ordered the beef, chicken and shrimp fajitas. Excellent. Served hot and sizzling. Plenty of condiments. Wife ordered three hard beef tacos which she enjoyed. The restaurant filled up as we ate. Nice atmosphere. Much less raucous than the Beltline Bar. Prices reasonable. We went here for lunch and my husband had a piece of brillo pad/metal in his food. We showed it and mentioned it to the server and he laughed it off and said they must have just cleaned the grill. Three stars is me being generous. I am blessed to live near one of the best mex restaurants in town. Out of respect I will not mention names. We drove to Caledonia to eat here on our lunch hour. The restaurant was reasonably clean and they were moderately busy. I had the trio of enchiladas pork, chicken, and beef. The beef and pork was hard to tell apart and the chicken was dry and obviously pre cooked not that the beef and pork wasn't. all the beef I seen come to the table was ground beef not so authentic. The beans were super runny for re-fried was it accidental or are they trying to stretch product? The sauce was pretty generic. On the bright side the salsa was good, fresh and made in house or seemed to be.the chips seem to be made there too crisp and light just the right amount of salt. the guest I ate with said the taco salad he had was good. I didn't eat it so I cant comment on that. Long story short I would not make the trip again. read more

My wife and I have come here many times but is is by far the most disappointing meal that we have had yet. We were brought to our table to find all kinds of food on the floor. The hostess did not even notice it and we had to ask that it be cleaned. Then we got our chips and salsa and the chips were stale. We tried to exchange them and were told that the machine did not have anything else. Got our meal and the food was lukewarm at best and the cheese they put on the beans would not even melt. Some of the best Mexican food I have ever had!!! The guacamole is so fresh and delicious! And the salsa is amazing!! The only complaint I have is everything comes in small quantities so order a couple items. But the service is great and very friendly! And it's always busy when we go there!
