A group of friends and I stopped here on our Taco Tour and I was excited to check them out because I'd never been. Tacos el Caporal has a pretty decent amount of seating (more than I expected), so we were able to find seating for our group of six easily. They were super busy with tons of takeout orders when we stopped in around 6:30 pm on a Saturday, but we got our orders in and the food came out pretty fast for how busy they were. They give you free chips and salsa, which was nice. They also take your order at the table. Since we were doing a taco tour, I got two tacos--one barbacoa and one asada. When the food came out, we also got a plate of toppings: grilled spring onions, jalapeno, limes, and radishes. The grilled onions are so delicious! But we only got two for the table and we had three people, so that was kind of a bummer. You might want to request more, because they are sweet and charred and you just have to try them! The tacos come with onion, cilantro, lettuce, and tomato which I thought was interesting as it's a little different than other authentic places. The tortillas were good and not too dry, and the meat was really flavorful. The pieces of steak were a little too big and tough in some instances, but the flavor was great--salty and delicious with some crispy bites. The barbacoa was tender and flavorful as well. I would definitely get the barbacoa again. I might get the steak in a different vehicle like a quesadilla. The larger pieces made it a little tough to eat in a taco form. Prices listed include a 2.9% discount for paying in cash, so keep that in mind. I would definitely go back and try other types of tacos and other menu items. It's nice to get table service and the extras, so for me this place is elevated from some of the other quick taco joints in the area. read more

The atmosphere here is a little half hazardous and confusing! You walk in and it's hard to figure out what to do. Do you seat yourself or wait? Do you go up to the counter to order or do they come to you. Do you get your own drink refills or do they do it. Most places these questions are obvious, not here! I order a beef burrito and a drink. You also get corn chips. The burrito was massive and amazingly good. The corn chips are good, but nothing special. The salsa for them are good but hot. A mild chunky salsa would be good. Nope only hot liquid salsa here. Overall minus 2 stars for confusing everything. However plus 1 star for an outstanding burrito. So overall a 4 star review. read more

First time going here I usually go to the one on 28th. But the one on 28th street didn't answered. And I love how good my wet burrito was , however not a fan of the chicken quesadilla. The chicken was dry and just didn't have a wow factor for me. I also feel that I could've of gotten more spicy sauce based on how much food I ordered. Ate here the other day. Had 3 steak tacos with all the side stuff (beware. I got dared to eat a grilled jalapeño won't do that again) radishes the grilled onions were fantastic also. Will post more if I eat something different but so far was great place, only bad thing (which isn't bad really) need more servers. But other that that would highly recommend and btw hot sauces were not to hot compared to grilled jalapeños of course that is probably from my taste buds were burnt lol read more

I love going here. They sometimes mess up to go orders, but their steak quesadillas are addictive. I don't recommend trying them if you don't like greasy food, though. I normally order a large with extra guac and it's plenty to share with another person. Green onions on the side are a nice touch. Oh, and try the horchata! read more

This place is okay. I like different kinds of salsa but there are only two and both are very spicy. The tamale plate came in pork which was excellent, but when I got it, the tamale was very hard. The inside meat was also dry. My husband got the fajitas which were okay. The meat was seasoned well but it was very chewy and hard as well. The beans were awesome! That was my favorite part of the meal besides my diet coke! read more

From what i hear their great. However, i didn't have such a great experience. It was seat self so we did. It took about 10-15 minutes to be attended probably more if we wouldn't have waved her down. The room attached to main entrance has no a/c-heat what so ever. The ambience is sad & the food was okay. Wouldnt go out of my way to stop again. I had a quesadilla the chicken had no flavor, and was dry which made it worse. Horchata was about the best i had on this trip to caporal. I hate giving such bad review but i guess i was expecting more. read more

This place was good. Forgot what I ordered, just ask for the most popular thing on the menu. The meat was season really well. They don't have iced tea but they do have clean tasting water they give you 6 tortillas instead of 3 like most other cheesy Mexican restaurants. They put tons of food on each plate. If you go away hungry then you didn't eat. The place looks like a hole in the wall but at least the food is decent. read more

This my favorite go to AUTHENTIC Mexican spot. I have dreams about the Shrimp Gorditas , the grilled onions and radishes. The 28th street location is NOT the same. A few steps below. I have NEVER been disappointed in a meal here. Sit down and feel the burn of the Green hot sauce. read more

Hands down the best taco I've ever had! The only negative thing about this place is service. I've only had problems with ordering take out from there, like getting the order wrong or telling me the wrong time my food will be ready and I end up having to wait an extra 20 minutes there. Really good authentic Mexican food. The don't have salsa for the chips so expect a little bite with either the green or red sauce. Chips are good. Service is hit and miss but the taste is worth it. Carne Asada corn tortilla tacos are amazing. read more

Very close to home amazing service and very fast taking in consideration how busy they are all times of the day. I love this place!!!

The food was delicious like always, But the new waitresses were not kind at all. It came to ordering the food and the young lady taking the order was just rude and with a frown on her face the whole time she was taking the order. (Made the situation uncomfortable). Our food came and she just sat it down without saying a word and walked away like nothing. Not once did she come to check up on us to see if we needed a refill or anything else. When it came to pay i stood there for a while and she would look at me but wouldn't come charge me until another young lady came and took care of me. The food is good everything time i go, they just need new employees with better attitudes. read more
