This was pretty cool. Real Art Tacoma is a non profit music venue that also has a cafe, a little retro/vintage consignment shop, and retro video games and movies. We stumbled upon this place after seeing there was going to be a Foo Fighters Tribute band night. Originally four bands were going to play but then ended up being just two, Sour Fuzz and the Big Me, but these guys filled the night! Doors opened at 7 and show started at 8, but there wasn't really a line so you don't need to go too early unless you want to grab some food and drink and chill at the cafe before the show starts. I love that there is a cafe serving coffee and sandwiches, and also beer and seltzers all throughout a late night show. Everything was decently priced too. In the cafe they had an old school tiny box TV playing a VHS movie, another old school box tiny TV for playing Super Nintendo and N64 games, as well as a big flat screen TV for modern day streaming. I loved the punk rock posters and skateboards on the wall. Despite a "small but mighty crowd," these two bands played really well and throughout the whole night. The sound system had some issues here and there but they fixed it and still enjoyed everything! On the way out, we popped into the vintage consignment store and loved it too. Like a blast from the past in terms of clothing, third players, VHS movies, and even cassette tapes. I haven't seen those in forever haha. Great and pleasantly surprising place. Plus that it is a non profit. We'll be back to see some other show sometime!

There's 3 parts to Real Art Tacoma so I'll be doing small reviews for all 3. Beyond Thunder dome café is a great place to snag a coffee and a tasty deli sub. The vibe is always chill and the people working here are super welcoming. They do have vegan and vegetarian options if you're into that. There's also delivery through Uber eats if you don't feel like leaving your house. ThunderDome designs and prints clothing and sells consignment sneakers. They have some pretty cool clothing. Eat a sandwich and pickup some clothes. There's an all-music venue inside so when covid goes away hopefully concerts will make a come back. A very safe place with the best staff to run a venue. Sound here is pretty awesome too.

Awesome all-ages venue! Friendly staff and a desperately needed place for local bands to come kick some ass.

We don't hear much about the Tacoma food scene up in Seattle but boy did Beyond the Thunderdome get my buy-in.

Visited the Bistro for lunch this week with Dawn Q. I had the "Chef's Plate" of meatloaf, mashed potatoes and green beans for $4.99. The food was solid, there was a lot of it, and it was cooked and served by students in Goodwill's job training program. My lunch buddy had a veggie wrap and gave her meal two thumbs up as well. I will definitely be back. I stopped by the Coffee Buzz (Goodwill's barista training program coffee shop) on my way out for a cappuccino from some uber-friendly baristas. The foam was perfection, but the drink took about 10 minutes to get to me. I was prepared for the wait, having known this was a training location, but I heard another customer grumbling about his own wait. To this I say -- chill out buddy! They're training, and you should have known this before coming! I'll be back to the Coffee Buzz as well!

Well guess what? Not only was the page NOT updated but Goodwill doesn't even offer the job training program any more. I emailed the address only to have it bounce back as undeliverable. I called the phone number connected with the job training program only to get an automated voice say that the call can not be connected which I might add was listed as the phone number to call on the Goodwill Milgard PDF page. Way to go Goodwill. Don't understand why the page could not have been updated, I had to waste my time emailing, calling a phone number that wasn't any good. I already am going through a difficult time REAL difficult. I feel that this organization could care less. It's public school all over again. Is it because that you are funded & you have this callous "who cares" attitude? Yet I'm shamed because I don't have a job. The receptionist at Goodwill sure wasn't helpful. Want to know what she said to me when I asked her about the program I was interested in, and she said that the program wasn't offered anymore. I grew a bit irritated, then I was silent. She replies with "Is that It"? This place? Awful! Thanks for nothing!

But, otherwise, I would recommend Ross, Marshalls, tj max, or Burlington. They're all discounted shops that are comparable to the goodwill prices, but they're new. Eg. Ross had a painting for similar size around 25$. This painting is $20. You can find unique items here though.

I don't know how long they may be going through the clothes and formulating the outfits in their mind but some pull it off really well. For me more often than not it doesn't go that way. More specifically with this particular store they always accept the clothes I give for donation. It's almost always clothes I can't fit into and unlikely I ever will again. As a customer the first time here was frustrating. Returns aren't likely to happen but Steve bought a pair of shoes here and both shoes were for the left foot. The folks acknowledged the situation but wouldn't give a refund. So watch out for stuff like that. After a long absence as a shopper here after that we came here and bought some pieces of luggage for some upcoming longer trips we will be doing in the next year or two. Nothing seems amiss with the luggage so I think that transaction and the items will meet their purpose. However if a bad turn comes of an unusual sort with the luggage we bought here that may be relevant to Goodwill I'll post an update but it's unlikely.
