First is the spectacularly great Sunday market under the expressway that has been thriving for many years. It has everything one could want in the way of fresh locally grown produce. Perhaps the thing that works most against the Saturday market is that the residents of the area have no idea what fresh food tastes like. They don't cook, they only eat prepackaged crap and, most likely, are hung over on Saturday mornings. There are, however, a few good venders at the BMI. The two fruit and vegetable venders are very good, the pickle guy is wonderful and Bonaparte's bakery has delicious pastries. I've also tried the meat guy and his products are very good. The only thing that I'm passing on in the future is the coffee stand. $3.75 for a cup of coffee!?! Somehow, this market must attract more patrons. Hopefully without resorting to a Bloody Mary stand for the local binge drinkers.

It's all open there. There's a square where there's performers. It's really family friendly and dog friendly. I don't make it to this farmers market as much as I want to because I need to drive and sometimes parking can be a little bit annoying but usually you can find street parking. I don't come here that often maybe twice a year but I want to go more frequently as this is an all year around farmers market but truly such a special place if you have time on a Saturday morning, please stop by!

Their packaged foreign snack cakes have led to fun experimenting trying new items. But watch out for the store-packaged Uzbek organic dried apricots. Unlike typical dried apricots, they're much thicker and darker in color and, while very delicious, some have seeds (or portions of pits) that you can't see. Those native to the area from which these come may well know that and know how to eat safely, but to the uninitiated like me a bite into one that chipped a tooth came as a very unpleasant surprise and landed me at the dentist. Sadly, seems the manager failed to accept my attempt at a good-natured suggestion some weeks ago--after a bit of unnecessary wrangling that included being told that apricots don't have pits, that you need to watch what you eat, and that it was my fault (which got me really annoyed and playing the attorney that I am)--to add "caution, contain seeds" to the label.

Plus Wegmans doesn't have an actual butcher. I was hunting for a top sirloin roast to prepare in the sous vide. This is a nice gourmet store on the grounds of a local farm that sells beef direct to the public. Their beef is apparently pasture raised and they seem committed to natural methods, no antibiotics, etc. I didn't see any mention of certification of organic practices though. The prices in general seem pretty high but maybe I'm a bit of an old fart in regard to prices. The goods were gourmet shop level. A small jar of gravy for example was $12 and a single brownie was $10.00 I was greeted by a nice kid who was helpful but didn't know the difference between a tip sirloin and a top sirloin. Not surprising. He quickly brought over the owner. She seemed pleasant but a bit rushed and wanting to sell me. I asked if they could cut a Top Sirloin Roast for me. They produce their own beef, butcher it, and sell it in their shop. I asked if the roast could include the cap (picanha) piece. That is a standard way of selling a top roast. The owner said they couldn't sell it that way but she could sell me the coulotte steak. This is the same cut as the Picanha or cap just by a different name. I find this odd. If you sell the sirloin steaks and the cap why not just not cut them and sell the whole thing. Or sell me the steaks uncut without the cap. I'd be happy to order it and come back a few days later. The owner was happy to tell me a story about how much I would like the coulotte and how it was a steal at the price. The problem with a cap steak bought separately from the top roast is that 35% of the cap steak is fat. That pushes the average per pound price of the meat up by 50%. Not a great value but I understand why they'd rather sell it that way. The fat cap is helpful in the cooking process (when roasted) but is usually factored into the total price of the roast. I'm the customer, they are a self producing butcher shop. The reason for me to make the effort to drive to them would be flexibility based on their inherent assets and skill set. Certainly they don't have a price advantage seemingly to me. So I bought the 2-3 pound coulotte steak. If the meat has a superior taste, I'll upgrade this review. But if the price is average, the meat is average, and the flexibility of the product are just average then I'll leave an average score. More importantly, I really want to like this place and I really do want to see their model work. I buy $300+ dollars of beef per month and also other meats. I want to find the butcher that will work with me when I have a creative urge. I'm happy to drive past other sellers (Wegmans, John Brown, Amish market) in hunt Valley and spend at least 2 hours of my time but they need to give me reason. Scott Rifkin, MD

No miscommunication here. I was able to get green beans, blackberries, peaches, tomatoes, and jalapenos for a reasonable price. All fresh and flavorful. The young man helping me was very professional and kind. Nice service and lots of fresh fruits and vegis to choose from. If you have a question or concern about the weights, just ask them to weigh again. They are willing to do this.

I've visited twice, and had excellent zucchini, peaches, corn, and tomatoes. They also had a variety of melons, peppers, baby cucumbers for pickling, and other in-season items. You can see the rows of plants right off the road - it is truly local agriculture. Well worth a visit if you, like me, want local produce but find the major farmers' markets inconvenient to access (downtown) or get to (closed too early, like Towson).

If you want a dozen or half dozen or whatever, they will assemble the ears in a bag for you making sure you get a couple small ears to match every larger ear. This way they sell every ear, even the ones not worth selling. Once, I rushed right up and went for the corn, grabbing the most robust ears for myself and was screamed at by the white haired lady, "we pickem!" , "WE PICKEM!" OMG it was extremely shrill.
