Haven't been to Rec Bowl in a while and decided to go bowl a few games today. They have the typical bar food menu (in a good way) and the food is excellent. Burgers, fries, cheese sticks all nice and fresh. As for the bowling, you get old school wood lanes and and above lane ball returns. Always a good time. read more

I have been to the rec bowl on several occasions. Always a party on the porch! This is a small bowling alley with only 8 lanes. But the back porch is amazing! So much fun. In the summer it is open to air. In the winter it is closed with heaters. It's quite cozy. In fact we got a bit warm. We held our class reunion here and it was the perfect location! We had our own waitress. There was a live band. We were able to pre pay and order from a select menu. Drinks were flowing! Everyone has an amazing time. Don't worry. You don't have to wait for a special occasion. You can come here at any time and enjoy the patio. It's quite a popular place in the area! Check it out! read more

This is a hard review. Went to a small retirement party. We sat out on the patio. The night was a nice spring night. The beer was priced ok I had two craft beers which were priced $5 a pint. I had Petoskey Dornish it was very refreshing. I ordered a bar burger it was cooked to order and the garnishes were fresh. I would get that burger again. It came with crinkle fries and they were crisp. There was a band playing and they were really good funny name though Fettuccini Beat. The only problem was our server was forgetful and seemed very overwhelmed. I think she was new. But there was a sign that said they were understaffed please be patient. Our group understood the problem and we were patient. I hope they can get the help because that's a cool place to hang out and listen to a band. read more

I visited this place last year, pre-COVID. Dirty floors, beer smell everywhere, but an outside patio and a place to dance. Now, it's a different story. Nothing seems to have changed or been "cleaned" up to protect customers and staff. I walked through the bowling alley to get to the bathrooms, and I didn't see anything being cleaned or changed in anticipation of them opening the lanes. I ordered the pretzel bites to go. they were tossed in a bag, hard as rocks, no napkin, but they did include mustard packets. They are having bands and dances there, but there is no masking and zero social distancing. The dance floor is miniscule and folks are piled on top of one another. The DJ needs about 1/8 of the room he's taking up. When I arrived, tables were separated, but customers moved them together. I think to alleviate that, they should put tape or markings on the floor where the tables should be. This is not a totally open pavilion, with air circulating from all directions. The bar is attached to the building and looks very dinghy. This is a well known spot, I guess, in the area, but these are different times. I asked what measures were taken to bring the establishment closer in line with cleanliness and the current situ, but have not received a response. They did seem to have hired one staff person to clean up used plates and glasses, but then they were not wiping down the tables. The table I was at just outside the perimeter of the overhead cover, was sticky and dirty. I will gladly update this review if the owners/ managers can indicate how they updated, cleaned and readied The Rec for the re-opening. Monday - Burger, Fries & a draft beer or soft drink - $5 all day. Other specials and events are listed on the paper calendar at each table. Their burgers are always excellent. I haven't really ventured too far into their menu other than for the burgers, and other daily sandwich lunch specials. However, I tried a cup of their sauerkraut and kielbasa soup the other day and I eventually found my tongue licking the inside of the cup, it was sooo good! The Rec Bowl is always a great time. I have nothing bad to say about this place. I was there on Saturday for a bowling party but I have been here a thousand times before. The drinks are good and the mini burgers are my favorite. I generally just stick to the mini burgers but this time we got a few different appetizers. The fried cauliflower and pretzels bites were amazing and you get a really good amount! Definitely recommend this place to anyone. They also have darts and pool, in addition to bowling. read more

Very cool place to have a quick beer or to bowl. I have driven past this place numerous times and have never stopped. I am a bowler and appreciate that this is one of the last places in the metro area that offers wood lanes, in addition this place is old school which is great if you appreciate nostalgia. In terms of bowling the price is great during the week which is $2/game. Now for the food. Freddy makes the best hamburgers and he has the best prices. After being in the area for years someone recommended the REC bowl so we gave it a try. Needless to say the burgers here are excellent. This is quite a local favorite as while we were there many people walking from the neighborhood over to grab a burger and a beer. The service was excellent we also tried the fish which was very good definitely recommend the Rec bowl if you're in the neighborhood. Don't know that I would drive out of my way to eat here. But you can't go wrong if you are nearby. read more

Our last visit here we called to make sure they were open, and they said that they had a power outage earlier but the lanes were back up. We ubered there for a date night and the lanes weren't working when we got there. Neither was the pool table. They just had some cover band outside with expensive pitchers. They let us play for free which I did appreciate. I think this place has so much potential and I hope to see more next time we visit. read more

Oh the Rec Bowl.... a diamond in the rough. If you're from Mount Clemens.. you know about this awesome family owned business. If generations and generations of your family are from the Clem area.. they also know about the Rec Bowl and probably know the entire Fox Generation also. It really is a 'Cheers' of Mount Clemens.. Where everybody knows your name (and it's a good thing!) Small bowling area with only 8 lanes.. but has a huge patio where in the summer local talent plays and patrons can enjoy the luxury of a huge patio bar with cold drinks and daily food and beverage specials. The Rec Bowl is just a huge family atmosphere.. personal pictures line the wall outside the bathroom and if you go outside, there are personal sayings from patrons that are painted on the wall. You really do feel like family when you come here. Feel all good don't you? Let's get to the good part... FOOD! FOOD! FOOD! Sliders are da BOMB!! (Do people say that anymore?!) Again, just like my review for Green Dot... If I'm around people that don't judge, I could eat probably 10 in one sitting. But don't just get a the sliders... Rec Bowl has an amazingly huge menu of all sorts of bar food that you have to try atleast once. Sit at the bar and you can watch the cook prepare your meal on a little flat top grill. Keep the grease on the grill because it literally makes all the food that much better. Must Try: Fried Cauliflower, seasoned waffle fries, double decker.. well hell all the burgers (and even the turkey burgers are fab), Sourdough turkey melt and my all time favorite the Cucumber pita with tzatziki. They also have themed nights and on Mexican night they have amazing tacos with rice and beans. And how cute are the owners.. they even name their patios after themselves: the Freddi-o is the small outdoor patio by the bathrooms where people can enjoy their many drunken cigarettes and still enjoy the game with the TV and the Patti-o is the big patio on the side where you can enjoy the big bar and live music. Oh.. and let's talk summer. If you're downtown Mount Clemens for their fireworks presentation for the 4th of July.. please walk your happy drunk butt to the Rec and enjoy a nice cold beer. Most nights they have someone out their grilling good ol' summer meat like Ribs.. Ribs.. and more Ribs. I don't know if I can hype up this little gem anymore than this. If you're a newbie you might come in and wonder what all the hype is about. But as a Clemmite, and my dad growing up in the Clem with his own experiences with the Rec Bowl, this is a personal treasure and a place that I take all my out of town friends. As I sat down I was greeted promtly and recieved good service and quality food for a fair price. Been going to the Rec for awhile now. And have been satisfied with their food, for the most part. Today was a total disappointment. I ordered the Fisherman's sandwich which in the past was pretty good. Something must have changed because today the sandwich had only one small sliver of fish on the bun. I'd be lucky if it took up 1/3 of the bun. Also it was tough and rubbery. When I asked the waitress about only one piece of fish, she verified with the cook that that is all that's on the sandwich. It used to be really good. Not any more. I will go back to the Rec but never again order the fish sandwich. read more
