It was a beautiful day and the car club decided to do one-lap of Harsens Island on Sunday morning. Based on other Yelp reviews, I set my expectations to "Low." I was very pleasantly surprised. I'm marking it down 1-Star because of the (lack of) cleanliness in the mens room. We had reservations for 11:30AM and our table was ready when we arrived. Our group of sixteen had two servers assigned. They were prompt with the beverage orders. Food orders followed swiftly. The servers were knowledgeable and attentive. I ordered the half-pound perch sandwich - and that is precisely what I was served. The mound of perch filets was large enough that it overflowed the bun. (see the pic). The breading was light. The sandwich was served hot, with a side of creamy cole slaw & tartar. The menu mentioned "hand packed," half-pound burgers. They didn't look like hand made. Rather; they looked like the standard Sysco:GFS half-pound patty. Regardless; those that ordered hamburger were happy with their food. Will I return? Yes. What an adventure to the island on small ferry boat. Now gentrified go figure island so interesting with vintage homes & wildlife. We went to the bar patio & split a 16 piece perch dinner sitting yards away from frightens and expensive cigarette boats racing by. The server was great and no one was in a hurry. When entering patio asked customers is this table available the friendly response was " yes but your welcome to join us" ironically one younger woman said raised in Nogales Arizona her dad was a pilot for cap in family& and she a u of Arizona grad? Go fixture! You'd think we were zonies I. San Diego . Leaving the bar people were standing milling around former small firehouse now a small museum where we joined them to watch the eclipse through the correct glasses & even a Colander! When dining goes slumming - This sums up pretty much everything in this place from the smell, to the food. Took 45 min to get food, we were jammed at a table smashed in to music equipment which I'm guessing was for the bar party later. The place is dirty, food was all bland, just eh. But, only one of two or three spots to eat on the island so it seems they can just do whatever and they'll get business. Maybe a better island nightlife spot, crap place to eat though. read more

We've been here a couple times, and have enjoyed it every time. They don't have the best food in the world, but they are a fun location and have several good things to try. Definitely recommend the perch dinner. I wish I knew it was not frozen from China like a lot of places, but I'm afraid to ask. read more

You gotta love this place. I agree that the service is rude and lacking, but it's not because the establishment feels a sense of entitlement, it's part of the soul of the bar. Even the patrons are rude! I also can't dispute someone's claim of getting food poisoning from tartar sauce, in fact, I would expect it. You don't go to the Sans Souci for fine dining, and fancy tartar sauce having meals. You go there for broasted chicken (which they won't even sell you when it gets busy, cause it takes too long), pizza (which takes about an hour and 1/2 on carryout), and ridiculous good times, dancing, and to see shit that you'd never see anywhere else. North American Indian's come over from Walpole island to play pool, locals with missing teeth dance without shoes on the dance floor, the band makes up the words as it plays classic rock, and there's generally a tame brawl in the parking lot around 1:30. It's not hard to not take part in it, just leave at 1:15. We call it the "angry bar," (which is funny, because Sans Souci literally means "no worries") but we consider it a term of endearment. I love the place, but it is what it is... If you're uptight you shouldn't be there past 4pm. *** Caution to anyone that plans to go here by boat. The only boat parking is on the seawall and the boat gets roughed up pretty bad when big cruisers and freighters go by. I would recommend having very large fenders or "bumpers" if you plan to venture here via sea. read more

Decided to move on rather than wait forever on feed. What we saw come out looked really tasty and prices were reasonable. Need a destination for a Sunday drive. Sans Souci Bar on Harsens Island is a dive with a great view. 1 star for the frozen food 3 stars for the view and outside deck. A relaxing place to watch freighters, sailboats, and yachts cruise by. They have the old standards for beer and a full bar. Occasionally they have live music. If you have to order food, the pizzas not bad, in fact, they claim it's the best on Harsen's. All in all, worth a drive for a lazy Sunday afternoon. This place is a real gem, casual and down home good. Have eaten here on several occasions while living in and then later visiting Michigan... The Fresh Perch is always a MUST GET. Delicious, light and tasty. Whenever I'm back in Michigan, it's a favorite spot - made even more fun by having to take the ferry across the channel, watching the freighters go by, and driving along the water's edge. The first plate came with so many fillets that I mentioned to the waitress that she forgot my fries. She laughed and said look under the fish, and this was after I had eaten about 5 pieces. There had to have been easily 35 nice fillets, with a nice coating not to heavy, not to light but justtttt right. Served with fries which were not up to the perchs' level of yumminess but good. Honestly, I can decimate a whole school of fish but couldn't finish even after having others help and have a few. Everyone agreed this was some good stuff. Went for a Sunday drive to the island. Stopped in to grab dinner on a Sunday. My girlfriend got a pizza and asked for the garlic butter crust. For some reason, they didn't feel like giving her the garlic crust and her pizza didn't look as thick as the others coming out. My girlfriend is not a bad person, nor is she mean. Maybe they didn't like the look on her face. Maybe the universe was leveling because she did something to upset God. Maybe they thought she was a tee watt. Either way, she didn't get it, and she was sad. In all fairness, everyone should carry a helmet because life sometimes just ain't fair! I saw many other people ordering pizza and it looked quite a bit thicker and they all had garlic on their crust. Good for them. They are all probably good people. Maybe they went to church that morning. I can tell you we didn't. Maybe we should have. Speaking with the people seated next to us, they said the crust was fantastic, that made Jennifer extra sad. But I did try the pizza and it was good. Cheese was tasty, but the crust was lacking something. When the waitress asked how everything was, I quickly blurted "mfffagghff fish so good, thank you!"... Sometimes I like to see the sad look on her face. Not the waitress, the GF. Also, I haven't even told you about my meal. It was so damn good! On the weekends- I believe all weekend, they have all you can eat perch. I believe it was $16. Do you like perch? If so, and you are reading this, you better make plans to go get some perch. I have not had perch better than this. Lightly battered and must have been pan fried. It was piled high and they didn't try to trick you with a pre-salad or a bunch of bread to fill you up. Bastards. Not San Souci, the other guys....They gave you a decent amount of fries and those were pretty good. I ate those waiting for round two, which came in a timely manner. The tartar sauce I can say was some of the best I have ever had. I believe there's just the right amount of dill and whatever other goodness which complemented the fish so well. I ordered only one order of extra fish because it was plenty. I think between the first serving and the second plate was probably 20 pieces of fish. Doing the math for you, that was like eating 10 fish. But that's 10 fish without the head and guts. You know, like the fillets. Yeah, that's it! 20 filets. I am kind of a fat man and wanted a third helping, but to save Jennifer from further embarrassment and to keep from throwing up, I did not. Plus, she was already sad. Sometimes I'm nice like that. We had with us a little boy. All the little boy wanted was a hotdog and fries. I'm not sure if I even asked him how his hotdog was. Why the hell would I? I'm certain I was busy making groaning noises and licking the tartar sauce off my fingers. I could describe the atmosphere and how the restaurant is situated on the North Channel, but why?
