latest addition in 1989 search on gene foushee for a mountain of contributions to the local history

Found this place on the internet as part of our planning for a big tour of Monument Valley. This was the third night of a road trip and we soon realized that Bluff Utah is in the middle of nowhere. No big deal but due to the virus and the fact that it was the end of the season, there were no restaurants open, only the gas station which had a small kitchen and good pizza. But the lodge was the coolest, most unusual motel we've stayed at. It had all the usual amenities but if you look at the construction and walk around the grounds, you can tell that this isn't just any stop. The history of the place and all the interesting 'rustiques', hiking and biking had us pleased to no end. Hat's off to Jim Hook and his predecessor Gene Foushee.

I got two nights here and had a very pleasant experience. In the kindest sense, this is a rustic hotel. Are you expecting lots of frills like a hair dryer and coffee maker in the room, and a thousand channels on your TV, and a phone in the room? Then look elsewhere. What Recapture provides which is very fun is a open reading/rec room with binders and books and materials on the area for you to study and possibly borrow while you explore the Bluff region. Topographic maps and clippings from articles and so much more. If you're here to see birds, hike, 4x4, ride the river, or learn the history of Bluff, there is much to obtain here (and there is a piano too!). My room had a comfy bed, hot shower (wonderful shower), and complimentary organic soaps. There is a sitting desk with chairs and a TV that provides some basic stuff, including a couple of movie channels, but really, who is here to watch TV? The floor squeaks a bit so I was worried about the people below me (if I'm below, will I mind them walking above?). There's seating outside so you can chill on the deck and get to know the people staying next to you, who could be very friendly and like-minded adventurers. There is a nice walk to the river, and a pool and jacuzzi (seasonal) and outdoor grilling and a play area for kids. In the morning they serve a basic simple breakfast that is carb heavy, lots of breads and bagels, from about 6 to maybe 11, and there's tea and coffee. The front desk is friendly and helpful and eager to chat. Call in advance. If you're here to explore Bluff, you should consider Recapture.

We love the individual cabins and when traveling with family the larger cabins are perfect! If you are lucky enough to stay while their restaurant Duke's is open I highly recommend eating there for dinner. I recommend better pillows though, we had like a million pillows on the bed but they were all small and thin. I would say hit the chair with a green machine because it seems stained, as well as the lamp shade was stained too. We had a toy roll under the drawers and it def needs a good vacuuming as it has other items under there too that we're not from us. It would be nice to have a little night light in the room as it's pitch black, we stayed with our toddler and had to keep a lamp on at night to see anything. Continental breakfast is decent, I'd like to have seen Apple juice since OJ is super sugary for kids. The WiFi is awesome! The TV channels are super basic so I'd recommend maybe install streaming Apps for guests. The staff is super nice and they all seem to like being there. Would def stay here again when visiting family again.

The place is and elevated motel in a quaint town of Blanding. You're greeted at arrival by a kindly and courtesy host. I love no door key to lose just a code to get into your room. The parking lot is nicely set up the lodge is surrounded by lovely plants and trees. We had a nice patio set outside which we used to have dinner. Our room was quite large w a big bed there's two night stands a desk area large tv on and dresser; another bed in an alcove is great for another person to have a bit of privacy w a night stand. The room had a microwave, fridge and coffee maker w a selections of coffee and teas. Bathroom was large and a great shower area w a nice shower head that had good hot water when needed. The amenities were awesome. The soap smelled great and had an amazing exfoliating seeds build in. The body lotion felt so luxurious on my skin. Towels and bed linens were perfect. If you read my posts about food you know I'm a water snob well when lodging in a sheet snob (my husband would say I'm like the princess and the pea). The sheets were soft and comfy. We had a restful nights sleep and awesome shower w great pressure. We then we welcomed to a breakfast all homemade even seemed the juices we fresher squeezed. I had the savory crusty bread w egg, tomato, kielbasa, ham and cheese inside it was so yummy. They had whole wheat cinnamon rolls that the frosting was great as well as the great flavor. The overnight chia was great loved the creaminess of the mixture but the fruit on top was fresh. The oj was as fresh and the coffee (I'm not a coffee drink but my mom said it was great). She gave us banana bread to take and it was dense and great. We ate breakfast in the back garden which was pretty and peaceful. They had patio tables, picnic tables but also had chaises and fire pits. I love that they had a bowl of chocolate to choose from rather than a chocolate on your pillow (which always seems weird and bring bugs. I would go here again and hope I get back to the area to do

My bathroom window even moved position to keep out light from outside. Lovely place.

I found this through the national Parks site, had to rank several choices and wait to hear back, so I didn't remember which one we chose or anything about it. After driving three hours through barren desert, Goulding's Lodge was like an oasis! The setting is absolutely stunning. It was other worldly and familiar at the same time, because the old westerns were filmed here! The staff was friendly and peppy. The cabin was clean, relatively new, and complete with a kitchen. The restaurant was quaint and vintage. The best part was the bonfire that the staff built for us! Sitting around stargazing was so memorable with our kids. We were all sad that it was a quick stop, but said we would love to come back to stay longer! If you're used to four or five star places, maybe you won't be impressed. But in context for the area it was pretty great! Also has laundry, on site grocery and gas. We went home and watched John Wayne in Stagecoach, and vowed we would go back!

I booked by calling the property directly. You will pay a $10/ vehicle charge to enter Tribal Land at the toll booth a quarter mile from the hotel parking lot. Make sure you keep this receipt if you plan on leaving the parking lot AND the one you'll get from the hotel front desk while checking in! We knew there were no laundry facilities on site, so plan accordingly. I brought over some soap bars from the hotel we stayed at before arriving to The View & washed what I needed to in the bathroom sink. Let my items hang dry at the balcony chairs less than 2 hours- dry as can be. The water pressure in the shower/ bath tub is amazing and there are shampoo, conditioner, & shower gel dispensers available. The scent reminds me of what greets you in the main lobby. I truly wish these toiletry items were sold in the gift shop, because they smell that good! In our room, there's a mini fridge, microwave, coffee maker & personal safe for your belongings. Don't forget to claim your bottles of water at The View Restaurant! And redeem your gift certificate to shop at the Trading Post. Which offers a huge selection of Native jewelry, shirts, hats, and other goods. Although it says Complimentary Continental Breakfast available, on your check in papers- there are additional breakfast options besides sliced bread, bagels, & muffins. Assorted dry cereals whole milk & 2% milk. Crispy potatoes, oatmeal, scrambled eggs, pork sausage. Fruit cups, fresh apples, yogurt cups. A deli is available from 10am- 5pm, since The View Restaurant is closed for lunch. But, open for dinner (closes at 10 pm). Be mindful of the last seating time, I think is 9:30pm- since table service is provided. Staff has been friendly and helpful. There are no hot tubs & pools, for extra activities at the property. But, I think an exercise room is available. There are tour companies here at the hotel parking lot AND other tour outfits at the traffic circle - Navajo Welcome Center. We stopped at Basha's Dine' in Kayenta before checking into our hotel. That way we could have our snacks, bottled waters, and fresh fruit of choice before arriving.
