I contacted Ray and later Samuel Poku regarding a policy issue and requested a copy or reference to the specific written policy being applied. Instead of providing the requested policy language, I was told that a separate detailed policy was not required and that the general rule applied. If a coworking space is going to issue warnings or threaten to terminate a member's access, the standards being enforced should be clearly defined and available in writing. Additionally, when a space advertises 24/7 access, using the amount of time a member spends in the workspace as a point of concern creates confusion unless there are clearly stated limits or guidelines. The back-and-forth communication took significant time away from the purpose of having a workspace. I ultimately decided the membership was not the right fit for my needs and canceled. I would expect a professional coworking space to provide clear policies, transparent communication, and consistent expectations for its members.

But Sam, the owner, was very responsive and flexible and helped out wherever he could. Sassy is very spacious and well-maintained. It's a cute event space right in the heart of Greenwich Village, next to a Subway line. Rick was our bartender, and he did everything to make the evening go smoothly. All my guests loved him, and I can say that he was super friendly and attentive. He even learned how to make new cocktails for us. The 4-million square foot BAT complex was used as a supply base and military depot during both World Wars. During WWII, it became the country's largest military supply base. Soldiers were deployed from here -- Elvis Presley being the most famous. BAT was decommissioned in 1964. Much of the original architecture remains today. A variety of tenants lease the space. I spent a long time in Building B's impressively majestic main atrium, soaking in the stunningly silent and solemn atmosphere. It was late in the day, and overcast. I was one of the only ones there. It felt almost reverent, as if I was in an industrial cathedral. Very cool to also see the old track where freight trains use to pull in and unload their cargo. Afterwards, it was a short walk around back to catch the NYC ferry. I'd love to return one day and explore more of this remarkable place.

Surprise, surprise, come the coronavirus pandemic it turns out they are doing something similar on mass scales, keeping everyone's security deposits to pay for extra months after cancellations. Obviously its an unusual time, but its keeping in line with their existing policies. They steal whatever they think they can get. If you are considering renting office pace in the future when they reopen, remember how they treated people during an emergency, many of whom are out of work and now unreasonably forced to forego security deposits and charged for months after their cancellations. This is not a business that deserves to survive. UPDATE: Just over a year after I stopped doing business with them, I received a random email thanking me for "my payment" and saw a corresponding $700 charge on my credit card. I called them up and apparently they have some sort of error where their system has suddenly charged all their former members and (the person that I spoke to claimed) also making extra charges to current members. Before I left I had made a point of removing my credit card from their system, and the man I just spoke to on the phone said I do not have a payment method on file, but maybe there is an "archived" payment method. Well, there must be something since the charge showed up in my credit card account. So not only does this company make random charges, but they do not remove your payment methods when you ask them to. I had to cancel the card to avoid this happening again, but this place has just become the most scammy business I've ever encountered. If this error were the only time, it could be a genuine mistake, but as this is now the *third* time they've tried to scam money from me it's an obvious pattern. Like I said, they try to find any way to steal your money they can. You'll notice the only positive reviews for this company are from long ago and generally about the building itself (which is the only reason it doesn't get 0 stars, the company itself is as bad as a company can be), I think the company must have been going downhill since even before the pandemic and since then they just gave up any pretense of being a legitimate business. Avoid this company at all costs. You will regret doing business with them.
