Red Agave has been the most excellent experience I've had hiring a contractor to do something large. This is an All-In-One business, Jensen does the design plus runs things, and he is a fortunate blend of talented but also experienced. Just take a peek at their website - those designs are both cool but also thoughtful. We wanted a total backyard redo, including turning a pergola sitting unused in the middle of our yard into an outdoor living room cabana complete with a metal roof and decking flooring. We wanted so much, including but not limited to: ripping out an ugly stone patio off the house's back to replaced it with a roofed over decking floored dining area, then adding an open patio area with metal planters and built in decking bench seating. We wanted landscape lighting, welded metal edged flower beds, more planters, and by the time the project was almost done we added in having them do high quality artificial turf. They had to do wiring, plumb a propane line for a propane fire pit they made out of a huge boulder, roofing, metalwork, decking, planting design and implementation...they reworked and updated our irrigation... It was a lot and they were just amazing at all of it. Jensen cared as much about having everything done right as I did - and I am very picky about quality. And I can proudly say this backyard now looks amazing - like the boutique resort hotel outdoor lounging I was hoping for. We love being in that yard as much as possible now. Red Agave far exceeded my expectations and created a backyard my family, I, and our guests love to be in. I hired them to upgrade my backyard which started as a dirt lot. I had some general ideas for what I wanted. From the first design consultation, I knew they were the company to go with. Jenson's designs were far more creative than other companies I had consulted. Not only was the design interesting from the start, but Jenson kept working with me to iterate and improve on the elements. I mentioned that I maybe wanted a fire pit, and he found a way to create an incredible firepit centerpiece with a "floating" boulder. To complement that, he also made seating with a similar floating ascetic. Nothing was cookie-cutter; everything looks completely unlike anything I've seen from other companies. I bought a new build in January 2020 and knew going into it that I was going to have some drainage issues based on the area and flood plain. It wasn't until I was finally moved in that I realized how big the project to correct would be. The builder added some drainage that resolved the issue for the most part, but it looked like a mess and my OCD tendency kicked into overdrive. I used Red Agave to landscape my front yard and was happy with them, but the work in the backyard has been extraordinary. They essentially turned a mud pit into a beautiful outdoor space. As a part of the project they moved all the down spout drainage into underground drains that empty into a nearby creek. Serendipitously we had heavy rain the next day after the project completed and it was a night and day difference. The clean lines make me so happy... it's the attention to detail on this project that are really something. The custom made welded steel planters that match the front yard, the colors, and the drip system all are very high quality workmanship. Red Agave is probably not cheapest in town, but they work they do is incredible. I would highly recommend them. I included some pictures of both the front and back yard. After updating our house's exterior features, i.e., siding, windows, paint, etc., we wanted to find a cost-effective approach to continuing those themes throughout the rest of our outdoor environment, which Jensen and team were able to deliver 100% through landscaping and building a backyard deck. I was drawn to Red Agave based on their gallery of work online, as well as the awesome reviews listed here. I bid them up against a larger company, and not only was Jensen's bid much more cost effective (~30% less), I really enjoyed meeting him and discussing his vision for how to meet my needs and stay within a reasonable budget. In fact, his vision is how I scoped the bid for the competitor company, and they still came in so much higher. In speaking with the project manager, Bo (who also does A LOT of the actual work), I was essentially upsold on adding an irrigation system and adjusting the grade of my backyard, which was able to be added-on with some flexible timing, and something I was extremely excited to add to my home's features! Jensen also got me a great deal on plants that are currently being added throughout my steel / deck planters! If you're flexible on timing (these guys are a smaller, and very busy company) and you appreciate having a working relationship with your landscape designer -- you won't find anyone else who cares as much about the quality of their work, while also delivering that work at a reasonable cost. Red Agave did some great xeriscaping work for me last year, and I've made a solid effort to continue working with them for ongoing maintenance, but communicating with them is more difficult than it needs to be. I'm just trying to give them more of my money, but I feel like I'm having to beg them to take it. We had Red Agave make several great additions to our yard including a new fence and gate, flagstone pathway, fire pit area, routing downspouts underground and away from the house among other things. Everything came out great and they'll be back in the spring to put in a cowboy pool and artificial turf. The design process was great. We had an idea of what we wanted but had never done a project like this before. Henning was very nice, listened to us and also provided some great ideas. He was also conscious of our budget and helped with design and materials that would work. Zach and team did a great job of bringing it to life. Jensen at Red Agave Landscaping provided a cost estimate of a sabal palm (cabbage tree) planting in Austin during June after I sent him a couple of photos. It was the type of fast information that helped with the decision to go with them. He also let us know the type of equipment that his guy, Conner, would bring (mini skid steer, auger, fork lift). Conner at Red Agave arrived on time and helped to unload a ~1,000 pound, 11 foot (height) palm tree. He dug the hole, planted the tree, filled with compost, and cleaned up. An amazing lack of professionalism at top dollar rates with great reviews on Yelp. In this Go-Go town it has become a challenge to get contractors to do small jobs at a fair price. Our backyard needed re-grading, the builder (Zach Savage, beware of spec houses built by this guy), neglected to grade the yard so the grass in the middle was too wet (there is not enough sunshine there anyway). I made an appointment with Red Agave based on the Yelp reviews. Someone showed up at 9:20am, talked briefly with my wife (telling her he had a 10:00am appointment, clearly a bigger fish to fry), took some notes, and then promptly left without checking in with either my wife or myself. No discussion, no thank you, no "see you later." Unprofessional. A week later I get a bid with a picture of a piece of notebook paper with a drawing on it (really?), and an itemized bid that didn't even have a total! Take out all of the grass, re-grade, put in a "drain" (no details there) for $5,600! Our yard is a postage stamp. This bid was laughable. read more

Watching them work up in a tree, carefully securing the climber, then securing the limb so it doesn't dead drop on my garden, and then finally making the cut, their skill and expertise is clear. Some tree guys put on an exciting show, but these guys do the job safe and professionally. They are worth rearranging my schedule to accommodate their availability. After reading Laurens review, I am even more frustrated and disappointed about what happened at my home. She evidently had the opportunity to work with the somewhat professional Crew. I guess my project was not important enough so I got the alcoholic who was drinking on the job and a psychotic homeless person. After interviewing 4 landscape companies, I decide to go with Red Agave based on meeting Jensen, Zach, great reviews and photos. I was truly impressed with them both. I had no experience with landscaping or how it should be handled so it was very Important I work with someone I trust, which I thought I was doing, I had no particular budget. Just wanted it all done right. The project was to install a. 75 x 3 foot rock/paver pathway around my cement patio and swim spa. Zach ,foreman on this project , assured me that the person that was doing my job was great and had been there a long time . I felt confident it would be Ok. Unfortunately, that was not the case. I have had 4 reputable Landsape companies here to look at this mess and they have all given me the same response about the unprofessional and sloppy work that was done here. All addressed the same issues On their own. I always though I just had weeds . It was Bermuda grass and was NEVER mentioned or address in anyway with me on how invasive it is or make any additional effort to offer options available to help reduce the risk of the bermuda spreading into my pathway. The weed barrier that was installed is l/2 inch short of even touching the metal edging.Should go up the steel to help protect the pathway from invasive weeds, roots, etc. There are no pins holding the weed barrier in place. 75 feet of metal edging not installed correctly, majority of it is lying directly on the top of the dirt. should be installed 2 inches or more in the ground. Decomposed granite should only been installed under each paver,it was spread over all the weed barrier so it is now mixed in with the black rock. Since the weed barrier, dg and metal have been installed incorrectly, the Bermuda grass has taken over the pathway and everything needs to be removed , hauled off and reinstalled. the reinstallation would definitely have to be done by another company since I would NEVER rehire them. originally , 24 paver were not set correctly and were about 1/2 inch too short and did not line up with the cement patio and metal edging. They had to be reset. Zach convinced me to let him resurface my patio and pavers convinced me to resurface them and the patio . While he was resurfacing , he admitted he had no experience and never wanted to to do it again. I stopped him immediately but it was too late. Pavers were ruined and patio was very costly to repair. The rock that was delivered by the same employee was supposed to 5/8 inch When I looked at it, it did not look right but he assured me it was only on the top and underneath was fine. I had to leave and when I returned, I was furious. It was not the correct rock, it was tiny pebbles to 3.5 inch rocks. I called Jensen and Zach and told them it was not correct and they need to get it out of here and redo it with the correct product. Thy did take care of it. But I did not appreciate being lied to like that. They brought a homeless person named Tim over here, He had all of his belongings in plastic bags which he stashed behind my outdoor building. I was a bit uncomfortable but he was being supervised About an hour later I noticed that the person with him had left. I was concerned but just stayed indoors. I did notice he was having very animated conversations with himself and thought that was a bit strange but did not make a big deal about it. He kept working and early afternoon he started yell, cursing and pacing up and down my driveway . I I called Jensen and Zach to come and get him. I was both scared and embarrassed. My neighbor heard it all and called me to see what was happening. He showd up back at my house around 7;30pm and was knocking on my door! Jensen admitted to me they discovered he was psychotic. Weed Barrier , Bermuda grass and metal edging issues showed up after they were paid and left. I contacted Zach about the bermuda issues .We discovered the weed barrier issues were the cause . I had agreed to let them fix it but after that I discovered the other issue of the steel edging not being installed correctly and that was the last straw for me. I have no idea why I put up with so many issues with them but I did but . I should have fired them early on. I have told Jensen only option is removal of everything and reimbursement. He has acted like none of this is a big deal and wanted to come "Fix the weed barrier". That was his fix to all of this. Not acceptable and now he is ghosting me. I did file a complaint with BBB and hopefully we can get this resolved so we can all move on. read more

By far the best experience with my new home to date. I had Red Agave put a path in on the side of my house and the entire project from mapping it out to laying the gravel took less then a week. Jensen was super knowledgeable about my current landscaping and answered all my questions. He even gave me tips on what to plant in my front yard! We had such a great experience working with Red Agave for a complete redesign and overhaul of both our front and back yard. They took out our horribly sad grass, regraded both the front and the back significantly, installed better drainage with a French drain, and converted the existing sprinkler system to best suit the new landscaping. They use the best quality artificial turf we saw on the market (we did three quotes with different companies and they have the nicest turf by a mile). Jensen put together a landscape design that was so much better and more interesting than I ever expected with different types of stone and custom welded steel planter boxes. Davey and his crew were just the best - master craftsmen totally dedicated to giving us exactly what we wanted. They answered every question and concern and were totally on the ball. Davey personally answered all the questions we had, and I really can't thank him enough for being so involved in the process. We contracted Red Agave for a backyard screened-in patio, concrete slab and skylight and ceiling fan installation. We chose them because they were far more reasonably priced than the competition, and are very glad that we did. The project took a little longer than expected, but mostly due to their attention to detail, addressing and resolving any minor mistakes or custom changes that came up, and adding some fantastic touches like the cedar ceiling, curved stairs and finding a door with a pet door. One of the best purchases we've ever made -- we already get so much use out of it. Jensen, Davey and Clayton were all very professional and friendly. Couldn't be happier with their work. Long Version: My wife and I bought a new build home in East Austin and we knew the back yard needed to be completely redone - drainage issues, grading, and lack of style. We interviewed a number of landscaping services that seemed competent but Jensen and his team immediately had a vision. Subtle but important differentiator. The work started on time and our crew of Clayton and Dave were at our house almost every day. These are guys who oversee AND do the work - they're not subcontracting out tasks which we truly appreciated. In fact, we came to appreciate having them around. We were out of town during some of the job and they took it upon themselves to turn away salespeople and even took in our mail a couple times. It's the little things. Once we saw the quality and craft of their work in action, we expanded the scope of the job by adding a new front fence, planter beds, and additional grading. They were able to seamlessly tack on this work and did so at a fair price. We're thrilled with the results. Update - we have now had over 10 plants that have fallen over. after removing some of the xeriscaping around the plants, it has been determined that the roots are exposed and were not planted into the ground. again, the xeriscape looks great, but hard to work with their team and is costing me time and money to fix what I paid them to do. You would think that a landscaping company could dig a hole big enough to plant something instead of doing it half way. read more
