Used to regularly go there pre covid for the Prime Rib Dinner on Fri/Sat. We were SO happy to return. Always a great meal and service for little money and we would tip LARGE! We arrived to smoke filled space in the booths, tried to ask if we could eat at the bar instead. The bartender was so condescending and rude with a 75-cent tip on the bar where we wanted to sit, eat and TIP. We left. We tried the 2 for $25 prime rib deal. I don't know whether the deal is just on a certain day, but we went on a Saturday. The bar is a dive bar type bar. It was clean and has video lottery machines, a pool table and some other game machine. The service was good. You get a choice of soup or salad with the meal. We had the clam chowder and the prime rib meal come with garlic toast, carrots and a bake potatoes or mash potato or fries. There is also an option of a baked potato for an extra fee. I generally never venture down to Sandy Blvd but on today's rare occasion my husband and I had the pleasure of dining at this nice little bar and grill. Immediately we were greeting with a "Hey how is your day?" And that's always nice. Had my drink within 2 minutes of taking my seat The menu is lengthy which is good l like options. Eventually I settled on the CBS which was divine. But what was even better was the tomato soup was seriously to die for. So creamy and delish! The wooden back bar houses a little secret history of this bar. Originally this oak pice was from the original Red Apple from before they moved 11 years ago. It took 11 people to move it carefully in pieces to keep this piece of history alive. It just goes to show you never know when you might run into a little bit of Portland history. I was looking for somewhere new to try and I drive by here all the time so I decided to stop in. It's a pretty good size space on the inside. They have video lottery and 1 pool table. They also have a kitchen. The bartender was nice and the drinks were strong. What put me off was when the bartender dropped a pitcher on the floor, kicked it, then proceeded to pick it up and put it back with the clean dishes. I likely won't return. read more

We used to come to The Red Apple All The time. We used to live it a nice atmosphere great location but we stopped going for Awhile due to getting slow service and food not what it used to be so we have been going to Uncle Vinnys which has the best food and no comparison in their Prime Rib. Uncle Vinnys won us back. We have came twice now to test the waters in hope to start making it our favorite again however food was horrible drinks Bad and service slow. For someone that was trying to find their go to place after moving across the country, this place quickly met the needs. This was my favorite bar for a year(I moved back to Florida), while it was shut down during covid, I missed the owner, staff, patrons, delicious food and generously poured drinks. This turned out to be horrible for both of us as we should have picked one of our trustworthy restaurants that we knew their menu, food quality, and food preparation. The salad that my fiancé ordered just had tossed greens, with aged tomatoes , few crutons and a dressing on the side. No creativity in the salad preparation. For our main meals, we both had the "steak fry wedges" but there was hardly any salt on them. She tried the fish in chips which the fish bites were deeply fried, oily and were in small proportions. There was partially steamed broccoli on her plate but they weren't seasoned in butter or anything else to give it flavor. She also thought the oil for the fish in chips had a strange after taste like the oil had been sitting in the fryer (or the counter) for a long time. I had the patty melted sandwich which had a small slab of thousand dressing, swiss cheese and the patty itself on rye bread. I did ask to have the sandwich without the onions but I think the sandwich needed some additional topping to go with it. I would have liked some steamed carrots with butter or something else to go along with the dish. Overall the both of us weren't impressed with their menu (with its lack of variety of meal types), better food quality, and the chef creativity or experience needs to be addressed. I am so glad I didn't order the potato skins as this would have been an additional heartbreak to the whole experience. We have both decided to pass on this establishment as a P&J sandwich at home would have been a better alternative. read more

I find myself working near here on occasion, and it's always been a very pleasant spot for lunch. I've had sandwiches, burgers, and salads, and everything coming out of the kitchen has always been nicely prepared. With no smoking allowed in bars these days, everything about this place is pleasant. It's clean and big windows let in plenty of daylight, they generally have a variety of sports on the TVs scattered about (with pleasantly low volume), and friendly service. There's a small, enclosed patio on the east side of the building, for outdoor dining on a nice day. I have not tried any of their drinks, so I have no opinions to offer about alcohol options. read more

We go there very frequently and have for many years, for their gizzards (which are the best anywhere). The bartenders are fabulous, the drinks and 2fer prime rib dinners are spectacular. This last Friday, I made the mistake of ordering the calamari cooked twice. The cook with (40 years of experience) came out and tried to convince me not to have it cooked that way. I said that is how I would like it, cooked twice. 1 order of gizzards and 1 order of calamari and one burger (egg over easy) and the gizzards are fabulous just the way you normally cook them and all was to be done at the same time. That's when all fell apart. Our poor waitress brought us the gizzards and calamari. The gizzards were cooked twice and calamari (booooo) not done how I wanted it. Oh and no burger. When we asked our poor waitress back over and she took back the calamari and told the cook (over done gizzards and under done calamari), where's the burger ? Then all of a sudden, the cook started throwing things around, slamming plates and yelling, our waitress started crying. The calamari came back perfect and the gizzards were shoe leather. (Still no burger), I asked her (where the burger was), she went to ask and the cook and he started yelling again and when he finally slammed the plate down on the pass so hard the plate was cracked in half, when she brought the burger, the bun was so smashed, it had finger marks left on the bun, where he smashed it with his fingers. The egg was so fried, it was crispy. Our poor waitress said she was sooooo sorry while she was crying. OMG I've never experienced that before, my son went to talk to her at the bar and told her, we will never order the calamari again (how I ordered it) and when is that cooks shift up ?? She said 4:30, my son told her, (we will never order food, if that cook is here). I told her, (we will come back, but after 4:30), when the 2nd shift cook comes in. This is the first time I've ever experienced this kind of situation. I recommend this place to everyone for food and drinks, but don't go until after 4:30pm. read more

The bartenders here are really a hit and miss. Sometimes their nice enough, sometimes they act like you are a total bother just ordering a drink. The food is a joke. It is WAY overpriced for what you get. I could make better food at home for less than half the price. The overall environment and energy of the place is downright creepy and a bit uncomfortable. We have patronized this restaurant a few times. We were in about six months ago and ordered their dinner special on the board. The food was ok. We received the bill and they charged us for the sour cream and bacon bits on the potato. Normally, I'd have no problem if they had told us at the time of ordering but we found out only when we received the bill. I complained to the waitress(Cameo). The waitress(Cameo) turned on us like we were the worst customers in the world. She was extremely rude and demeaning. We intentionally have stayed away because of that evening. We decided to go again last night because it's "close to home". We saw the same waitress(Cameo) there but she was serving a different area. We thought that is great, we won't have to interact with her. We then noticed after we had ordered our drink that the angry waitress(Cameo) was chatting to our waitress. They both turned and looked at us. (almost pointing at us) From that point, our waitress ignored us. I finally got our waitresses attention and told her that we are "not" what the waitress was telling her. I'm not sure if she cared either. A few minutes later the waitress told us that they ran out of the special. If you decide to go, at least you will know to ask about any additional charges for your meal :) We will never be back and will make a point of telling all of our friends, family and everyone we encounter about the angry waitress(Cameo) at Red Apple. read more
