I am visiting for work and seeing family and ran out to get a quick to-go lunch. Red Apple popped up as close by and highly rated so I ran in to get something. The staff were AS FABULOUS as could be, but when I returned to my hotel room with my Pesto Omelette, I was severely disappointed, Isn't this NoCal, with everyone a foodie? The country potatoes, while tasty and of a very generous portion, were cooked in that ubiquitous crappy greasy spray-can stuff that is used in the greasiest or greasy spoons. And the Pesto Omelette was swimming in a greasy, not just from separated olive oil from a nice pesto, gloop. I was hungry so I ate as I had limited time between business engagements, but I'm not certain how a sophisticated palette could give this food a high rating. This very nice family style café serves breakfast all day and lunch. It does not serve dinner. The menu is varied and they offer some very good Hispanic dishes. We had the homemade corn beef hash and ham with waffle. The service was excellent with a very friendly wait staff. We would definitely eat here again! read more

Our recent visit wasn't up to the greatness that we enjoy at Red Apple. We were seated, then greeted by "tired" waiter that took our drink order. He brought our drink order to the table and lost balance of the tray, spilling four drinks on the table and on to my lap. Accidents happen, but it's how you try to remedy the situation that matters. No appologies, no towel, he went on as if nothing happened. Too bad, we really liked this place, but there are a lot more places to go to in SC county. read more

This place is WAY, WAY OVERRATED and I suspect it is because most of the reviews come from locals. Sorry, just sayin'. Slow service, mediocre and greasy food and cheesy ambiance. Yeah, the portions are big, but so are most portions at most restaurants and that just ends up wasting (bad) food. You want breakfast in Watsonville??? Go to Red Apple Cafe, best breakfast in town guaranteed. Nothing else in town compares to it. The ONLY other breakfast joint I can say is comparable in the county is Heavenly Cafe between Scotts Valley and Felton. Even the Red Apple Cafe in Aptos isn't on par with its better half in Watsonville. The Watsonville Red Apple Cafe is family run and owned and has been for quite some time. The staff has been there for a long time and never gets tired from what I can see. Always in a great mood and smiling. The food at Red Apple is VERY good. Its a country style joint done right. Everything from the omelettes to the house potatoes are AMAZING, no exceptions! I recommend Red Apple if you havent tried it yet, and if you have tried it, you dont need my recommendation for it, you know how great it is! read more

First of all, the Red Apple, even at its best is a hash house. But at least they make their own hash. Its the Woody Allen joke, the food is just decent but the portions are big. All this is to its credit UNTIL last time. My wife felt her benedict was a little "off" and said so. In swoops the manager and tells us that she has confirmed that there's nothing wrong with the food, and it is my wife's at fault for having an opinion. What does that tell me? She doesn't know the basics of restaurant behavior? They are losing money on all the complaints? Neither of us (and she has thirty years of retail) believe in the "customer's always right" philosophy but, in a restaurant environment you substitute non-pleasing food (a request we make maybe once a decade) not argue about it. Wow service and interior has gone downhill at this place, I will admit the only reason I decided to give this place another try was because there was a big line at Cowboys Cafe. But I have been coming to this red apple on and off for my whole life as a Watsonville Native so I came in for breakfast on a typical work weekday last week, we were seated quickly. Right away I picked up on the old dirty and coming apart carpet on the floors, A lot of the workers were walking around trying to find things to do because it was not too busy yet, the last time I came I remember them having some new options on the menu but not this time very typical breakfast options, we ordered and our food came out fairly fast, my order came with fries and my wife needed a coffee refill before we started digging in so we waited about 10 minutes and no ketchup like all the other tables were getting with their orders and no coffee refill, I stood up as our waitress came around with plates in her hand she did seem overwhelmed with the customers and she asked what can I get you I said ketchup and coffee she said ketchup ill get you in a second and coffee you will have to wait I have to take these orders so you will have to wait for that, in kind of a rude tone, she then tried to be nice about it after the fact. I ordered the turkey club, (the bread was too hard and the turkey was just ok on it), we also got the french toast which were also just ok tasting and a side of pancakes which were good. This place is not as good as it used to be, it needs to be cleaned or re done and service is on the rude side at least from the waitress we had, the staff did not seem like they were able to handle this weekday rush I cannot imagine on the weekends, I think I will just have to stick to Cowboys Cafe. read more

Yo their Ultimate Meat Omelette was the BOMB. It was pretty damn good. The egg was well done and cheese was nicely melted. They had some mexican fusion plates that looked real enticing. Had a wonderful breakfast on Sunday 6-26. The food was delicious, the portions were huge...and the prices were very reasonable! Staff was so friendly and attentive. Our party of 6 was too big for them to accommodate inside the restaurant (on a Sunday) and when they asked if we would sit outside on the patio I was hesitant. My initial thought was that they would forget about us...but that did not happen at all. They came out at least every 90 seconds to make sure we had everything we needed. It was a great exlerience...would highly recommend this local gem! read more

This is our "go to" breakfast place in Watsonville. My only complaint is if you order a meal to go, the containers they use are so cheap that by the time you get home they get soggy and collapse on your food. They're food isn't cheap so it would be nice if they spent a little extra on better quality containers. read more
