    Italian bowl with eggs
    Matt Y.

We were ravenous at a farmer's market and saw a tent with that advertised hot cheese (an outpost, I would learn later, of Cheese Please). I needed something robust, and so I got in line. It took some time (20-30) minutes to get the food, but it was worth it. My order consistent of fried potatoes and slices of Italian sausage coated with a deluge of a warm, melted cheese and topped with two eggs (to order, which for me was over easy). It was all made with very high quality ingredients. This was particularly the case for the cheese, toasted and shredded right from the wheel. The sausage was also quite good and had a nice kick to it. My gf's grilled cheese sandwich was also proper and good, but I was already basking the glow of cheese-coma when I tried it, so my impression was that it was less soul-satisfying than was my potato dish.

First time I tried Raclette and I really enjoyed it! Found it at a First Friday Food Truck Night. The woman at the front was super friendly, telling me a bit about the dish and story of the truck. Pretty good portions. I got the Hawaiian style with egg and had a pretty solid dinner.

This place is a must visit whenever I am in the big island, along with the tropics dreams ice cream factory, one aloha shaved ice, and for land for poke. The raclette is delicious and watching them make it is so fun! Each time I'm back in the mainland I wish they had a place like this. So good!!

You know when you find yourself in an environment with food trucks and someone claims "keto food," and you are skeptical? Well I typically am. Then I tried the raclette today from @cheese_please_hawaii and my life has been changed for the better. Sausage, Portuguese sausage, eggs, Dijon mustard and gooey, loaded melted cheese. Delicious!! What a find.

The Italian sausage bowl - delicious!!

We had the basic Italian sausage and potato raclette bowl at the farmer's market -- it was SO GOOD. Delicious with several different flavors that all went very together -- you should get all of the fixings (pickles, mustard, green onions) even if they don't seem to make sense. The cheese was gooey and delicious and the potatoes and sausage were perfectly cooked. I am excited to go back and try more of the options. Am also really happy that they come to both sides of the island!

They opened with beef tartare that ruined me for every other beef tartare I've ever had. The osso buco is legendary. Then came the double cheeseburger... and I need everyone to understand that I don't hand out compliments like ketchup packets. This is, without question, the best burger I've ever eaten. It's so good it makes you want a cigarette afterward--and I don't even smoke. I've come back many times just for that burger because nothing else I've tried on Hawaiʻi Island or Oʻahu comes close. Their tater tots have developed their own fan club, and the little bar with beer, wine, and cocktails makes it dangerously easy to linger. The staff is consistently warm and welcoming. After being away for six weeks because of a family emergency, one of my first stops after returning was this burger. It was still outstanding, but I did notice the beef patty seemed about a third to nearly half thinner than I remembered. At around $20, that's noticeable. I'm hoping it was just an off day because this place has earned enough goodwill for me to give it another shot. Don't overlook the butcher shop itself. The meat quality is miles beyond what you'll find in a grocery store. I bought their ground beef for a ragù alla Bolognese, and it was so spectacular that I went back specifically to buy more for homemade burgers. Bottom line: this is one of the hidden gems of the island. Come for the butcher shop, stay for the burger, and if you leave without wondering whether you should light an imaginary post-burger cigarette, we clearly ordered different meals.

Waimea Butcher Shop is a good place to try them, (it is also a restaurant)! You will be served with warm & friendly service. I found out that I enjoy the taste of fresh grass fed beef, while my family did not. They did not think the meat was fatty or tender enough. This is because grass fed cows are much leaner and don't have their feed come to them. Anyway, I enjoyed my dining experience here and if you're curious, you should definitely come and give it a try! If you're inclined and know how to cook a mean steak, and staying somewhere with a kitchen, grab your supplies here.

Perfect lunch stop for those on their way to Waipio Valley or heading out to Waimea or Hilo side. My partner and I shared the Tri-tip sandwich and a quiche. The quiche had a golden flaky crust, peppery bacon, and fluffy eggs. So good we forgot to take a picture. lol. The sandwich was packed with flavorful beef, roasted peppers, arugula, and a spicy horseradish sauce all on poi bread. Pricey at $18, but big enough for two to share. The combination of toppings on the homemade crunchy poi bread makes it worth it! Service was pretty quick, friendly, and helpful. There's so many cool local products to look at while you wait, so that's a nice way to pass the time. There's also outdoor seating and a bookshelf to browse. We definitely want to try more of their delicious sandwiches. Honokaa Country Market will be our go-to sandwich spot on the island!

I highly recommend this as one of the best chocolate tours!…read moreWe took the two hour tour with our family - it was a nice small group of six in total. Mike was not only an expert in all things chocolate, but he is easy to understand, he takes time to teach you and answer any questions and he has a great personality! It was pouring down rain the day we went, yet the tour was still a great success. We started out at the farm and then concluded down at the shop. You get to taste fresh cacao, nibs, cacao tea and kakao brew - of course at the shop are the full chocolate bars. Mike clearly loves what he does and enjoys sharing that love with his customers. The only down side is that after listening to Mike you will be ruined forever on eating any other general retail chocolate. So long Hershey and friends!

He built his cacao farm from the bottom up and it was amazing to witness his progress ever since 2017. He walked us through the seed germination process, the growing process, the fermentation process and everything before, in between and after that.. from seed all the way to chocolate bar. This tour is meant to expand your knowledge and change your perspective on how you think about, taste, and experience chocolate. At the end of the farm tour, you drive down to the gift shop (about a 3 min drive from the farm) to make any potential purchases as well as taste even more chocolate! What an amazing and unique experience in Honaka'a and 100% recommend adding this tour to your Big Island itinerary. P.S. my favorite chocolate bar is the barrel aged bourbon bar!! Notes of dark cherry with a bourbon finish :)
