The kalua pig is excellent. It has a gentle smokey flavor and is very moist. It is great with the rice that you can get with it My husband got French fries instead of rice. The fries were very good and hot but I like my kalua pig with rice

The food is really good, even though the decor and ambient is like a typical dinner. I had the ono plate, potion is huge. the mini loco moco is plenty for one person!

First time here! Great prices and good service too! I had the grilled mahi burger. It was good. It was easy to grab a seat and eat. The food came right away too.

I ordered the Mahi plate with wasabi dressing and salad and pineapple slaw as the sides. The fish was good but too much dressing for me. The salad and slaw were fresh, service was great and the restaurant was spotless. My husband had the Mahi sandwich and enjoyed the Hawaiian sweet bun that it was served on. Overall a good place for a quick serve meal.

Came to the Big Island and was craving loco moco, so we stopped by here on a Thursday around lunchtime. The place was busy but we were able to find seats quickly, and ordering was fast and easy. My wife ordered the Loco Moco, and I went with the two-entrée combo -- crispy pork and teriyaki chicken. The loco moco had great flavor, the gravy was nicely seasoned, and the portions were huge. The teriyaki chicken was honestly the best I've ever had -- perfectly grilled, not overly sauced, and super tender. The crispy pork was good too; the skin was a bit on the soggy side, but still flavorful. Overall, the food was excellent. Definitely coming back! Just a heads-up -- the portions are massive, so it's a great spot to share a few dishes with friends or family.

So, only 2nd time here. Cashier was awesome. All by herself & in midst of lunch rush, she handled it like a king. Smoke meat plate with pineapple & coleslaw was winnahs Korean Fried Chicken wings, fried good, but needed a little more flavor. Cesar Chicken wrap was a little disappointing. Very limited Chicken but choke croutons (imagine Cesar salad in a wrap). Like I told my wife, when you go to a BBQ joint, eat BBQ not salad. Sweet potato fries was super good. Still good food & great customer service. It was packed with malahinis.

Became a fan of Ippy's after trying his old restaurant in Waikoloa. Also had a catered dinner by him previously at Anna Ranch, and his food is always amazing! The kalbi (spicy glaze) were moist with tons of meaty flavor. The green salad and rice helped to cut some of the meat richness too. The garlic shrimp also shined through since they weren't slathered with sauce and you could appreciate the shrimp itself. My husband said the katsu was the best he's ever tried. Fries were also perfectly crispy and the pork belly was juicy too. Ample seating, easy parking, and lots of natural ambient lighting make this the perfect place for a plate lunch! So Ono!

Enjoyed Ippy's overall. The prices were a bit much for what you get, but that is common for most places in Hawaii so nothing out of the ordinary. We enjoyed both the ribs and Korean fried chicken. The spot is nicely updated with plenty of seats and the service was really great - the lady at the counter was really helpful. Tried: Korean fried chicken, bbq ribs Loved: the sauce for the Korean fried chicken Tip: ask for extra sauce with the Korean fried chicken to dunk your chicken in - so good!

Yassss to Ippy's!!!! So glad to have found you, unfortunately on our last night on the Big Isle. Sometimes ya just gotta get out of the touristy areas and explore/drive to get some good local plates. Clean local establishment with plenty of parking and indoor seating. Order at counter and seat yourself. Lots of great choices on the menu. Ordered: Mixed plate- mahi mahi/garlic shrimp The fish was dry, but the garlic shrimp was bomb! Fresh green salad and the mac were awesome. Mixed plate- Kahlua pork/teriyaki chicken Excellent! Not overly salty. Paired well with the rice and mac. Good food, fast service, reasonable prices!

Sweet short bibs, Mac salad, twister fries.

The short ribs are the best on the island. The lady in the front is always so nice. We came here twice with our family cause it was sooo good. Portions sizes are big too!

Loco Moco for lunch SEP2025

Every time I go to the islands I have to order the Loco Moco which is my favorite Hawaiian meal. You get a fair amount of food for the price and this meal kept me full all day. You order at the cashier and then they call out your name. This is a popular restaurant which had customers coming and going while we were there.

Quick stop before heading back to Hilo for work to grab lunch! 3 star for shrimp but 4 star for Sierra who asked the kitchen to help my plate still happen. Thank you.

They opened with beef tartare that ruined me for every other beef tartare I've ever had. The osso buco is legendary. Then came the double cheeseburger... and I need everyone to understand that I don't hand out compliments like ketchup packets. This is, without question, the best burger I've ever eaten. It's so good it makes you want a cigarette afterward--and I don't even smoke. I've come back many times just for that burger because nothing else I've tried on Hawaiʻi Island or Oʻahu comes close. Their tater tots have developed their own fan club, and the little bar with beer, wine, and cocktails makes it dangerously easy to linger. The staff is consistently warm and welcoming. After being away for six weeks because of a family emergency, one of my first stops after returning was this burger. It was still outstanding, but I did notice the beef patty seemed about a third to nearly half thinner than I remembered. At around $20, that's noticeable. I'm hoping it was just an off day because this place has earned enough goodwill for me to give it another shot. Don't overlook the butcher shop itself. The meat quality is miles beyond what you'll find in a grocery store. I bought their ground beef for a ragù alla Bolognese, and it was so spectacular that I went back specifically to buy more for homemade burgers. Bottom line: this is one of the hidden gems of the island. Come for the butcher shop, stay for the burger, and if you leave without wondering whether you should light an imaginary post-burger cigarette, we clearly ordered different meals.

Waimea Butcher Shop is a good place to try them, (it is also a restaurant)! You will be served with warm & friendly service. I found out that I enjoy the taste of fresh grass fed beef, while my family did not. They did not think the meat was fatty or tender enough. This is because grass fed cows are much leaner and don't have their feed come to them. Anyway, I enjoyed my dining experience here and if you're curious, you should definitely come and give it a try! If you're inclined and know how to cook a mean steak, and staying somewhere with a kitchen, grab your supplies here.

The burger is only available as a combo for about $25, the fish tacos were $36, fries are $7 (and unfortunately not very memorable), and the restaurant adds a 7.5% service fee before prompting for an additional gratuity. By the time everything is totaled up, what looks like a casual lunch turns into a very expensive meal. If you're looking for a splurge, the food is fine. If you're expecting a laid-back burger-and-taco spot with reasonable prices, you may experience some sticker shock. I'd happily come back for the food if the value proposition were better, but next time I'd probably look elsewhere for lunch.

When we walked in, it was very lively, with a singer and guitarist, and most tables were full! We decided to split a double cheeseburger with onion rings along with a side of fries. As someone originally from the Midwest, it's hard to turn down a good burger, so we had to try it. When I tell you this was arguably the best smash burger I've had in my life's I'm not lying. I ordered "The Dubs" which is basically a double smash burger with cheese. For the toppings, I ordered their smash sauce (insanely good!), onions, and pickles. The burgers also come with a side of salt and pepper fries by default, but I ordered some onions rings as well. The onion rings were cooked perfectly, with the onions being sweet, and the batter being a nice consistency and not too thick. The fries were also great, and I loved the thicker, more coarse pepper they use to season them. The place appears to do a great amount of business, but only judging by their reviews, but by the fact that it was very busy during dinner time. The atmosphere inside is very enjoyable, with a small bar up near the front counter, sports on some TVs in side, and live music (island themed) was also being played inside. If you want a great burger, this is your spot!
