I guess I expect a bit better from a ski town that the places to eat would be more favorable and worthy. After a bad experience elsewhere last time we came up- opted to try red baron. Upon getting there, waited in a crowd of 'waiting people' in a small entryway for pickup. Waited a little bit to get to me- while I did get there when they said it would be ready ( Caesar salad with chicken, garlic bites, small meatball/tomato/garlic pizza and small pepperoni/sausage/ garlic pizzas) - the pizza and bites were ready but not a small Caesar. Ok So the girl took out (from the Warmer) both pizzas and bites and handed them to me - to get cold while I waited for the small chicken Caesar. I asked her to put them back in the warmer. They then brought me out a bag with the salad. Glad I checked it Prior to leaving - no chicken at all or extra dressing. Don't know what really happened next but waited a little bit for the small chicken Caesar salad and my warmed 'again' pizzas. Left. Mind you - if you've never been here the parking lot is a nightmare - almost parked in front of stater bros to pickup. Arrived home and unpacked what we hoped was good food- but it was all pretty much inedible. The Caesar salad chicken was extremely rubbery - croutons were hard as a rock. The garlic bites were (as were the pizzas) very chewy dough bites, I mean chewy- no crispyness. The pizzas were the same. I'm usually good at explaining things with great detail- but we couldn't get past the chewiness. Nothing was notable to mention. It was an inedible meal. When we called the manager on duty, literally said. " I've never had anyone comment that before." Ok Great ! He proceeded to refund our bill- but with that comment and the food quality - the look of the place- I would definitely not recommend red baron - heard saucy mama was better pizza. read more

My review is long overdue but here we go Came in on a Sunday afternoon in October after a night at Oktoberfest. Our server was Jessica who was so sweet and attentive! And no, I am not just being biased because we share the same name but I give her 10 stars! It was not crowded at all-dining room consisted of plenty of booth seating and of course they had a full bar. The food was delicious and they had a decent amount of cold beers on tap. We tried their chicken tortilla soup which hit the spot if you're a soup girl needing a soup fix before some carb overload. The large antipasto salad seems small but with the pizza and breadsticks we ordered it was the perfect portion and balanced out our meal. So originally we came at 3:15 pm it is now 5:00 pm. Originally we got the red baron special with no mushrooms because I am allergic to mushrooms, as well as the sampler for an appetizer well the appetizer was literally so small it felt like a kids meal that ran us $17. The pizza came out like 40 minutes after waiting and guess what it has that we didn't notice till I was feeling an allergic reaction. MUSHROOMS. Luckily I have medicine on hand so I took that right away and they brought out a regular pepperoni pizza. Once they brought that out radio silence for literally the remainder of the time no one came to check on us to ask if we needed a box or the check nothing. We had to go ask to pay and they literally were not busy when we came in. Seems like they need to hire more employees. Luckily they didn't charge us for the pizza at all but even just the appetizer plus 2 drinks was $47. Don't get me wrong the pizza does taste good but I could've literally died if I didn't notice sooner or didn't have any medicine. Maybe the cooks should learn to read a ticket or double check what theyre doing. EDIT: just got back to my airbnb and lips are burning bad while I was eating the left overs, they had to have done it on purpose now bc there is small mushroom pieces on the edges of the pizza!!!! We loved our pizza!! It was just a bummer that they don't answer their phones to help customers with questions, place orders, or fix issues. They forgot to give us a part of our order and instead of being able to talk on the phone with someone, we had to drive all the way back while our food got cold at home. Crazy crowded week in Big Bear. Every restaurant is packed for lunch since the snow on the mountain at Snow Summit is so poor. Finally head in to a Jersey Mike's but the line is out the door. I see Red Baron across the parking and I call them to see if they make sandwiches. 10 minutes later, we have mid day munchies in hand and are off to our cabin. I came in to watch the hockey game and they were very accommodating getting them game on for me and I was able to get a beer quickly despite them being busy. I got a few beers an antipasto salad & the pastrami pizza. I've also tried the Lori pizza in the past that one is my favorite pizza here but the pastrami was good. Different but good. Also a good size pizza for being a small. I also like the antipasto salad and my beers were good. The service is decent a little disorganized but friendly. The place is a typical pizza place with kids games & being messy because of the family friendly environment. I'm sure they try to keep it clean but this place badly needs an update & desperately needs new flooring. Quite possibly the dumbest run operation I've ever seen Came in at 7 on a Friday night - was told 1-1.5 hours - no problem, we left and came back and assumed food would be ready Returned to a line out the door of people waiting not only to pick up, but people ordering, and people paying for pickups. So we're listening to the person at the front of the line go "uhhhh, how's the calzone" while all the people in line had a hot pizza they ordered an hour earlier sitting in a warmer behind the counter. Instead of having runners take food to customers, they just dropped it in the warmer. Single file line, one cashier, telling people it didn't matter if you were picking up, you had to wait in line, which was over ANOTHER 45 more minutes at that point. People who ordered and hadn't paid yet were just walking out and going elsewhere. Ridiculous And then of course the food sucked, because it had been sitting in a warmer the entire time. Love this local spot on the east side of town Who would've thought you had to go searching for a place that wanted your service? It is located in the Lakeview Shopping Center. We discovered this after a quick trip to Vons across the street. It can easily be missed unless you pull into the parking lot because there aren't any signs before entering the plaza. Came in to place a takeout order, and it took about 35 minutes to be ready. Before ordering, I appreciated that they asked the kitchen staff how long it would be and if I was okay with waiting. It was ready at the quoted time and was worth the wait. This place gets busy, and they have minimal staff, so it'll be best to place your order ahead of time if you want to be in and out. We ordered a medium pizza with pepperoni and garlic. It had six slices. The crust was surprisingly good and had a nice crunch. It's a nice pizza spot in Big Bear that isn't overly crowded. read more

I already left a review for this place elsewhere, but figured I'd leave an improved one on here. I grew up and Big Bear and the pizza here when I was a kid was amazing (we're talking around 2005), but while visiting some years ago for the first time in I don't know how many years, this place has drastically gone down hill. I'm not sure what they did to their pizza sauce recipe, but it was just super bland over all, there also wasn't much cheese on it which was disappointing because I remember them being super generous with it back in the day, but recent photos do look like that may no longer be an issue. They also went from being more of a family oriented place to focusing more on the bar vibe. I was the only one there at the time, place was completely silent, even the woman who took my order seemed really depressed and like she didn't wanna be there so even just eating here felt rather uncomfortable. In my other review the owner assured me they've started using "higher quality ingredients", but as I said in response, you don't need expensive ingredients to make food taste good, the lack of flavor is an issue of competence not quality of ingredients and the fact they don't recognize this is telling of the issue. Needless to say he/she was obviously quite unhappy with my negative review and dismissed it considering I haven't been here in years, but according to recent reviews I would say their claims of improvement don't appear to be true. Anyway, I can't officially recommended other places since I can't confirm for myself if they still hold up and I gotta be honest I don't feel much motivation to considering I'm surrounded by good pizzeria's at home, but right across the street from Red Baron's in the Von's parking lot is Maggio's Pizza, would much sooner try there or Village Pizza, which is obviously in the village. read more
