However, based on how my family was treated yesterday, it is evident that this policy is not about consideration, but exclusion. I calmly explained that my three-year-old daughter is autistic and was attempting to self-regulate. She was not disruptive, loud, or running around--she was simply existing. My husband and I are well acquainted with social etiquette and fine dining, and we frequently dine out with our children at a wide range of establishments. What makes the situation even more troubling is the evident arrogance--particularly from an establishment that presents itself as more refined than it truly is. The level of disdain shown toward paying customers was entirely unwarranted. We paid, requested our food to go, and left without causing a scene--but the feeling lingered. We tried Peppercorn for the first time yesterday and were sorely disappointed. Peppercorn was recommended to us as a good steakhouse, so we ordered a medium rare strip but received one that was well done. After some debate at the table we decided to send the steak back. Nobody wants to look like a jerk in the restaurant, but at that price point there's an expectation that you should get what you ordered. The steak that came out next was somehow worse. I don't know how it was soaking wet but not juicy. It wasn't seasoned. It was dry on the outside and grayish purple inside. It tasted like it was defrosted in the microwave before they served it. We suspect the appetizers were frozen as well. Our server was sweet and helpful, but we saw another server set the fresh pepper grinder on the floor before offering to wave it over other patrons dishes. I had the Cappellini Pomodoro, and wow... the Roma tomato sauce was incredibly fresh and delicious. Everything was so light and beautifully put together. Even when I was getting full, I still wanted to keep eating because it was just that good. The Parmesan and overall balance made it feel indulgent without being heavy. Our server, Tyler, was outstanding. He was knowledgeable, attentive, and genuinely cared about our experience. I couldn't decide between a side salad or the soup of the day, and he recommended their onion soup -- not your typical onion soup at all, but a unique recipe I've never tasted before, and it was fantastic. My family has a cabin in Big Bear and we come up often, this has always been my favorite restaurant to visit when we're here but this will my last time dining here. I ordered a burger and when I received it I noticed something strange on my burger I was sure it was mold. So I told my waitress and she took it to the back and returned with the same plate saying it wasn't mold and I asked if I could just replace it as I did not feel comfortable eating it. She asked the manager and when she returned she assured me it was normal and said I couldn't swap it with something else and I would still be charged for it. I was going to eat it and when I cut open the bread it was moldy inside, I showed the waitress and they said they were extremely sorry and they removed it from my bill. If I could give 0 stars to this business I would! I had a very disappointing experience at this business due to extremely poor customer service and what felt like discriminatory treatment. From the moment I approached the door, I was treated with a lack of respect and professionalism that made me feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. Staff members were dismissive, unhelpful, and noticeably did not want myself and my family to enter the restaurant. When I tried to enter the restaurant, my family and I were dismissed almost immediately upon entering and told that they didn't have a dinner menu for us. I felt singled out in a way that was both frustrating and disheartening. No customer should feel judged or treated unfairly in any environment, especially one that is supposed to be welcoming to everyone. Disappointing this time. I hope this place is not headed downhill. As part time locals my wife and I have been coming here for years. We have celebrated numerous holidays here and had made a tradition out of spending Valentines Day at the restaurant. We even came here after our wedding, on our way out of the country for our honeymoon. When we bought our local lodge from my wife's family years ago our bar had a few wine glasses from the restaurant that were tied to old memories and high praises for Peppercorn Grill. We have always loved this place and frequently bring our out of town guests over. Needless to say, the experience yesterday started off on the wrong foot from the onset. Two, flustered and moody hostesses were greeting on comers with a frown and the phrase "can I help you". To put it into context, "what do you want" would have felt just as uninviting. After check in there was a struggle and some tension to confirm booth seating - which was both requested far in advance and never a problem in the past. There was a manager floating around (who I have never seen before) who was attentive but unfortunately also short and disingenuous. The waiters here on the other hand are always amazing, friendly and welcoming. These are faces we have become familiar with and a reason to come back. To put it plainly, we come here for the service. We spent $400 on dinner for two and we do so for ambience and service. Thats why we dine out. We have a wine cellar at home and plenty of experience cooking, we have no other reason to take a 3 hour trip to our home in Big Bear, only to come to the Village and leave a date night disappointed - especially on a holiday. You ever had that coworker who acts busy but really isn't just so that the rest of the team has to pick up his slack? If we got Zack as our server it would've been 4 stars, SMH... but we got Tyler. We wanted patio seating so our friendly hostess asked if we were willing to wait a few for them to clear the table for us, and we happily obliged, asking her for a glass of water for me while waiting in the front entrance area, which she brought. Once seated, I brought my empty glass and Tyler brought a full glass for my bf, but nothing for me. If he even looked at the empty glass he should have either: 1) replaced my glass with a full one and taken the empty one away or 2) fill my empty one. This isn't rocket science. At no point during any part of the meal did he do that, despite us requesting several times. He didn't come by to ask us about our meal. He didn't take our plates - other staff did. At the start of our visit we ordered drinks first. Bf ordered the mule, which he enjoyed and I asked for more water. Tyler brought out the mule before taking our order... without my water, nor after I asked again. So yeah, Tyler gets no star, the food gets 3 stars, and Zack--wherever you are--you're the unsung hero of this establishment. Shout out to the other staff who finally took pity on me and filled my glass before I started hallucinating. The nice Latina lady handling the water pitcher asked me about my meal. Hell, they should give Tyler the water pitcher and her the server position. Tyler was nowhere to be seen until end of the meal to ask if we wanted dessert, got the check and nonchalantly threw in a question in passing on how it went when it really was a moot point by then because the meal was already over. Tyler didn't tell us the specials (didn't know they had any until we overheard Zack toward the end of our meal tell the next table). Meanwhile, Zack--serving the table next to us--was out here running the server Olympics. He made conversation with them like they were long-lost cousins, dropped off waters with lemon slices, asked next table if they wanted parmesan on their pasta/salad (Tyler didn't--he just seems to think pepper is the only condiment or too lazy to carry more than pepper--who puts pepper on salad or lobster ravioli?) Zack basically turned their whole meal into a delightful experience. Food? Good. I ordered clam chowder and my honey ordered lobster ravioli and house salad with a balsamic vinaigrette. My clam chowder was on the salty side, and bf agreed, but nothing to the extent of being unpalatable. The lobster ravioli was pretty darn good. The bread it came with was hard as a rock. I had read another review from some restaurant awhile back where someone complained the bread cut the roof of their mouth and thought wow, what a Karen - how can you eat a bread so hard it cuts your mouth? Well, I didn't know it did that to me eating this bread until the next day when I was eating and realized the skin on the roof of my mouth was cut from this bread. Guess you don't realize it in the moment, so be forewarned you better soak that bread or something, lol. Salad was salad. Tyler brought out the salad and clam chowder first, automatically placing the salad in front of me without a word. Word? We swapped plates after he left. I agree with a previous reviewer. From the moment we arrived, the host greeted us with a dismissive "can I help you?" delivered in a condescending tone rather than a welcoming one. I ordered the Roasted Five Spice Pork Tenderloin, which was completely misrepresented. The dish was neither roasted nor did it have any noticeable five-spice flavor. As a chef, I am very familiar with this preparation, and it did not resemble what was described on the menu. More concerning, my husband ordered the Shrimp and Scallop Pasta and became ill shortly after eating. He experienced severe gastrointestinal distress and spent the remainder of our time in the restroom. He had not eaten anything prior to dining here, so we are confident the illness was caused by this dish. To make matters worse, a server who was not assigned to our table abruptly dropped the bill on our table without saying a word. The interaction felt cold and demeaning, as if we were being rushed out or judged. Me and my partner just finished a snowboarding session and we definitely did not look presentable, but they were very nice and welcoming people and even assured us that our outfit was okay while treating us the same as everyone else. Was planning to come here for lunch and parked in the lot while standing outside with friends deciding our plans. A waitress came out and immediately yelled at me to move my car, saying the parking lot was for the restaurant only. The interaction was incredibly rude, snappy, and disrespectful. I tried to explain that we were actually planning to come inside, but she cut me off, walked away mid sentence, went back inside, and shut the door. To be clear, I have a valid disabled parking placard. Disabled parking spaces are protected under state vehicle code and the ADA. A business cannot deny or harass someone lawfully using an accessible parking space based on whether they are actively patronizing the business at that exact moment. NOT KID FRIENDLY. I came here for an anniversary a year or two back and had a nice time. Unfortunately this time around I was so turned off by the anti-child rhetoric I feel the need to leave this review. Mostly so other families can avoid this place. My husband, my daughter and myself arrived... My husband was outside with our daughter who was upset over falling down, so I went to check us in. There was a mix up with our reservation by 15 minutes (I thought it was for 4:45, but they had 4:30 down), so it looked like we were 15 minutes late. One of the hostesses was helpful and said they would fix it. Unfortunately they didn't have any highchairs, the two they had were in use. Despite me specifying our party of three was for two adults and a highchair when I booked the reservation... One of the hostesses (Maybe a manager, she was a middle aged brunette) tried to talk us out of dining at the restaurant... She pointed to my husband outside with my daughter who had just fallen and started lecturing me about how crying children are disruptive to everyone and pointed to an anti-kid sign that I'll post a picture of... My daughter is really sweet and well behaved. We take her out to eat quite a bit. I assured her she would be fine. They said it would be about 20 minutes for a highchair. Once our table was ready, we headed into the restaurant. A tall, younger, blonde hostess made us stop and read their anti-kid sign before they would let us sit down. It was WILD. We would have left, but it was a holiday and everywhere had a one or two hour wait. We proceeded to eat there and our daughter was PERFECT, as per usual. So much so that our waitress commented on how well behaved she was. That was really satisfying... It was like our daughter knew what dicks they were being and wanted to rub it in their faces. The food was bland and undercooked. I had to salt everything excessively to give it flavor. Our waitress was nice, that's the only reason I'm giving two stars. If they really feel the need to leave the sign up I would leave it at that... Don't try to turn patrons away with children, lecture them on how their kids could be disruptive or force them to read signs. If someone has kids that are disruptive and aren't properly parenting then maybe that would be the right time to make someone read the sign and lecture them. The way they did it was incredibly awkward and inappropriate. Kids are people, they deserve to exist. I noted they're dog friendly, yet nowhere was there a sign about how dogs and their owners should behave... Really good meal for me on my birthday. It was a super packed weekend up in Big Bear and I was so happy that we had reservations. We were promptly seated and ready to start our meal. We started out with the steamed artichoke with aioli and it was a great appetizer. Highly recommend if they have it! My daughter ordered the maui crab cakes for her meal which were OK. A lot of breading (I know it said they were macadamia nut crusted) and I just wasn't a fan of the amount of bell peppers (and I'm a bell pepper fan). The salsa was a great addition though. My son went with the shrimp and scallop pasta. This was an amazing dish. There was so much flavor and the sauce paired perfectly with the seafood which was cooked perfectly. Man this was a highlight of our meal. I ended up going with the rack of lamb which was perfectly cooked (has to be medium rare). Only item I didn't like was the Honey Dijon Glaze sauce. Did not felt it worked well with the lamb. A little too sweet. My wife ended up getting the Peppercorn crusted flank steak. This was also cooked to her liking and was a great dish. Made a reservation to celebrate my mother's birthday here. We arrived a few minutes early and were told there was a family at our table and we would need to wait. Sure, no problem, we're early... We waited over an hour past our reservation time and WERE NEVER SEATED! We ended up having to leave and go somewhere else. We received no apology. Later, I called and asked to speak with the manager and explained our situation. He was confused as to why they made our reservation because apparently our party was larger than what they normally accommodate (we had 5 people) He offered for us to drive back and he could seat us then... this was now over 2 hours past our reservation time. We live part-time in BBL and have dined at Peppercorn many and it was our go-to restaurant many times until 5/9/26 when we went for a special dinner occasion and were very disappointed. The service and ambiance were great as always, but my bone-in ribeye was not; too thin, poor quality, tough as shoe leather. Will find another favorite. read more

We placed this restaurant on our to-do list from the start of our Big Bear planning! We went our first night and the wait was 1.45 so we decided to make a reservation for the next night which was our actual anniversary. It was great. We arrived early so it wasn't super crowded and we had excellent service from Leticia. Food was great! The only reason I took 1 star away was the bread. We thought some kind of crusty French bread would be better with oil and vinegar instead of white bread. The ambiance was excellent for an anniversary dinner, the flowers and candles were a nice touch and everyone we came in contact with was great! read more

The food and service is great! We dined on a Monday when it was quieter. The stuffed salmon was some of the best I've ever had. We ordered drinks and those were great as well. We plan on going back soon. read more

The burgers and sandwiches are about $22-25. The burger was nice and juicy, sandwich a little dry but ok. Sides are ok, potato wedges are crispy. Chicken caesar salad comes with a rain of parmesan, like how you get from olive garden. It's alright. Food are all about average but presented nicely. Lemonade iced tea (aka arnold palmer) is nice and refreshing. Best thing is you get free refill. On a hot day, yes! We chose patio seating since we brought our dog. They don't have dog menu but brought water bowl for him. We got him chicken breast unseasoned. $10 The staffs were so nice but there were so many flies. They brought out the rotating thingy that kept the flies away when for a while, but they were pretty resilient when the food arrived. They sat & walked on the food and refused to be shooed. Vibes here were 10/10. Warm and nostalgic restaurant with super friendly staff. I loved having a slow/ cozy dinner with my family here while enjoying the fire playlist they had in the background. Lasagna Al Forno was very filling and packed with flavor! read more
