For some reason, I remembered the portions being small from my last visit, but I was totally wrong! Everything was a great size & fresh. We ordered: Chicken Parmesan Shrimp Cocktail Pizza Everything was delicious! The restaurant is beautiful, clean, modern, and nicely decorated. We sat outside, and the atmosphere was perfect with views of the Village and the mountains in the background. Our waitress (Shy) was very sweet, and the service was on point from start to finish. This is a great spot for a date night, a nice dinner with family or friends, or even celebrating a special occasion. I don't understand why the yelp reviews are as low as they are, but this place is definitely underrated. My boyfriend and I came out here on Valentine's Day and had a wonderful time. The ambience is really nice, both inside and out. We only needed to wait for about 20 minutes on Valentine's Day and we didn't even make a reservation. The food was excellent! We each got a glass of wine, and for our main entrée - we ordered chicken piccata, and the chicken Parmesan pasta dishes. We also got the fungi pizza + garlic truffle fries (both requested well-done), and they were absolutely delicious! Finally was able to get dinner here. The last couple times we tried and it was closed during their posted hours. The service was polite and nice. The atmosphere is very beautifully done, whoever did the design has great taste. Our cocktails were pretty weak, but ok. My husband enjoyed his pasta but the noodles were very small portion but they gave a good amount of nice sized shrimp. And, after we left we realized they never brought out his salad. My margarita pizza was cold. It had extremely thick slices of raw tomato which made it difficult to eat the one slice I ate. The server did offer to fix it but we were ready to go at that point. Also, they don't have kids items on the menu but I overheard another server telling his guest that they had options for kids. And, I'm not a prude but perhaps the wait staff should all be wearing pants. Not short shorts. I don't really want to see someone's backside as they're serving other tables. If we were at a bar sure who cares. But half the tables had children and the other half looked like they were having romantic date nights. Overall it seems like this place just needs a bit hirer standards and then the meal would be worth the price. read more

The service here was completely unacceptable. From the moment we sat down, it took about 30 minutes just for a server to bring water and take our drink orders. To make matters worse, three separate parties who were seated after us had their orders taken before anyone even acknowledged our table. Once our water finally arrived 15 minutes later, we were finally able to put in our food order. There were well enough servers up front who were just eating or had their backs towards the front. As for the food itself? It was mediocre at best--the pizza crust was so hard it was almost unchewable. To top it all off, after finishing our meal, we waited another 30 to 45 minutes just to get our check. The server vanished completely and never checked on us once. I eventually had to get up, walk around, and actively hunt down a staff member just so we could pay and leave. Looking around, it was obvious we weren't the only ones suffering--several surrounding tables were visibly frustrated and dealing with the exact same neglect. We were the only people there as they just opened. Probably the worst Italian food we've ever had. Shrimp scampi was watered down, noodles that weren't even cooked. My wife's chicken Parmesan was over cooked and dry. Drink prices were way higher than other places. $200 later. never again. Pizza Hut would have delivered better. Had a nice visit at La Pergola Trattoria. I ordered the chicken piccata -- it was good and very filling. We also shared the fresh bruschetta and cheesy garlic bread, which were both delicious and perfect for sharing. They're dog-friendly, which was a huge plus. My Stella came with me and, as always, was a total lady. I'm incredibly thankful she's my ESA because my anxiety was definitely overloaded with the extremely rowdy kids seated next to us, playing with silverware like swords. Having her there helped keep me calm. The food did take a bit longer to arrive, but overall it was a pleasant experience with good food and a welcoming atmosphere. I'd come back again. read more

Southern California is not particularly known for its Italian places, which was a bit of a disappointment moving from the Midwest, where every third restaurant is Italian. After living here for nearly a decade we have yet to find a place that checks all our boxes. Tonight, we did! The food plentiful, fresh, delicious and quick to the table. Service was impeccable. Ambience was awesome, inside and out. Price was surprisingly restrained for food of this quality. Then we ordered one Margherita pizza and one pepperoni pizza both well done. It was so crispy and perfectly done. We devoured it. Will go back just to eat the pepperoni pizza again. My favorite here. Customer service was welcoming and friendly. Our waitress was attentive and very pleasant. Lots of cozy indoor seating and patio seating. Fire pits outside, will be great in the spring and summer. Accommodating large parties is not their strong suit. I don't know if they take reservations, but we didn't have one. For a Saturday in December with a group of 17, that was a challenge. We were invited to sit and enjoy appetizers in the front area until a table was ready for us. We divided ourselves up between four tables. Two of the tables (one of which I was at) never received our drinks or shared appetizers in the 25 minutes that we sat waiting. I ordered a bottled beer. Someone else ordered a hot water with lemon. Granted, one of the other drinks at our table was a cocktail... but that's quite a wait for drinks. I know the server was trying -- it is tough with large groups. When one of the ladies at our table complained about her soup (which was her meal -- she didn't order anything else), the server told her that "it's fine, it's included with your meal anyway." (Well, no... she was still charged $8 or whatever since she didn't get a meal... and she actually didn't touch the soup.) That being said - I really loved my soup that came with my meal! The soup was the best part. I misread the description of my pasta on the menu, so I was a little disappointed, but nevertheless, it was OK. No one in my group "loved" their meal -- everything was just fine. I think we were so hyped up and were really looking forward to Italian that we were a little let down. I will give La Pergola another try when we're back on the mountain, perhaps just with my husband and I. Large groups can certainly be tough! 2024: 100/100 read more

At first, I was a bit leery of dining here because of bad reviews on yelp but decided to give it a shot. Very pleased I did! Beautiful interior & exterior! I chose to sit outside because it was a beautiful day and the patio is stunning. Serene waterfall against the back wall was a really nice touch as well as the flowing drapes and nice marble table tops with very comfortable cushion seats. Nice quality paper napkins as well. My server was Donald and he was very, very attentive and knowledgeable. A nice affable gentleman. I started with a nice glass of red unshackled prisoner wine and it was just lovely. Nice and dry with some lovely tannins. I then had the steamed artichoke and it was the best I have ever had. The gremolata they pour over it was loaded in lovely fresh herbs and garlic , and the side serving sauce of lemon mayonnaise was out of this world. I had to take a little container of it home. And then I went on to the chicken piccata, but did not want the pasta as a bed so I chose the seasoned vegetables and they were lovely. I love garlic and everything had just a right amount of it! Chicken was tender. Even the little side insalata misto was perfection. Just the right amount of light zesty vinaigrette with some Kalamata olives and a lot of shaved Parmesan. Prices are not inexpensive, but you get some really flavorful tasty unctuous dishes with decent portions and a lovely atmosphere and fabulous service. So sometimes you get where you pay for. My only complaint is that 3% charge for using a credit card. I almost reduced my tip for my server to 17% because of that but decided against it because he was fabulous. Come on! Relatively short wait (15min) on a Saturday night. The food is actually not bad, the pastas were good (a little salty), the soup of the day was a hearty meatball and minestrone soup with lots of vegetables in it. We had the papparadelle, and the pasta was al dente. The pizza was actually the best part, the crust was deliciously crispy, toppings were good, and so much better than Saucy Mama's down the street that we had the night before. Very mixed reviews from our group of 5 last night. This is a nice Italian place and the ambiance is not too stuffy. The menu was large enough to find a good dish of your liking but not an encyclopedia. Service was a bit slow but friendly enough. The chicken was dry and chewy on an overall decent pasta dish. You do have to order bread as it's not complimentary. Biggest issue was the bill. They state they they charge an extra 3% for credit cards and they add tips for parties over 6 people. Fine enough. But our group of 5 had the tip automatically added, plus they added a line for an additional tip. Such BS. We would have been happy to tip 20% but the automatic 18% that was added with the extra tip line was very off putting. read more

A very large group of us was looking for a place for dinner. We chose La Pergola Tattoria, because they were able to accommodate our party. While waiting for a table, we set up shop to the left of the entrance where we ordered appetizers and drinks. This place has the cutest outdoor area, but it was way too cold to try it out, even though they had a fire-based installment. We were brought to the back of the restaurant, which was much larger than I thought, and taken to a very large table sitting on its own in a separate area. We were loud, and we were annoying, and the staff just dealt with us without saying anything. I actually got full off of the appetizers in the beginning, so I didn't order anything at the table, but everything that I saw coming out looked amazing. I will be returning whenever I'm in Big Bear again to try the actual entrees for myself. read more

The ambiance is delightful from the Italian music to the intriguing wall art. The tables are bright white and wood accentuated by black chairs. I ordered the Caprese Salad and enjoyed the fresh mozzarella and tomatoes. The main downside of our experience was the long wait between placing our order and getting our food. Finally, in frustration, we asked a passing waiter where it was. It came out a few minutes later. The restaurant wasn't very busy so we were surprised by the slow service. This was our second time dining here, and once again, we enjoyed ourselves. The service was on point. I don't remember the name of our server, but he was very attentive, but not hovering. Our food was delicious. I had lasagne and my husband had capellini with chicken. Both pastas came with either a cup of soup or an insalata mista. There is a cafe right inside next to the restaurant as well to help make the time go by faster. Cafe latte 6/10: the latte tasted like watered down coffee. Garlic cheese bread 8/10: very crunch, but very tasty! Wish the restaurant served bread, that's always the best part! I would recommend this as an appetizer Alfredo di verde 8/10: very tasty! I enjoyed the flavor and spices used in this dish. The noodles were cooked all the way through Philly cheese steak panini 8/10: the panini was actually very tasty as well! There was not too much cheese, but the right amount & the bread wasn't falling apart when eating Chicken Parmesan 9/10: the chicken was not dry & coated nicely! The standout dish for me was the beef carpaccio, they absolutely got it right, which is not easy to find, and many restaurants don't do it this well. We were seated and immediately greeted by our friendly server. She took our drink and appetizer order and got them to us efficiently! We ordered the bruschetta burrata as an appetizer. It was SOOOO good! Wanted to devour the whole thing but decided to take half back to our VRBO for later! Our server gave us her favorites and we ordered the chicken parmesan as recommended. We started with the soup of the day, meatball minestrone which was very good! We shared the main dish because the portions are HUGE! The chicken was crispy and had good flavor. I didn't love the marinara sauce. It had too much sweetness to it. But that won't keep me from coming back. Finally we finished off the meal with an affogato to which there were several delicious options and we told our waitress to choose for us! She chose well!
