Mediocre Food at best, service really slow for a small restaurant, evenly priced. Clean and cheerful Inside.

The perfect end to a perfect trip. Honestly, there are not enough words to articulate how happy…read morethis meal and experience made our family, but I'll try. I'm not sure if the bar/lounge right outside the restaurant is part of the dining room, but arriving an hour early to have a perfect cocktail overlooking the lake while deer eat grass and listen to a live string quartet really set the mood for the rest of the evening. Once our reservation time came up, we were promptly seated in the dining room. Dee (from California) was amazing. So friendly and attentive, even with the kitchen delays which was barely noticed with another set of drinks and an appetizer, Escargot Bourguignonne. For entree's, we had Steak Au Poivre, Coq Au Vin, and the kid's pasta. For desserts, Sticky Toffee Pudding and Blueberry Cobbler Cheesecake. All delicious! If we ever get the chance to visit YNP again, this will be #1 on my list to rebook.

We had dinner at the Lake Yellowstone Hotel Dining Room in May 2026…read more Both of us received sub-par main courses given the premier billing of the dining room. Before ordering the scallops, I asked the water if the scallops were good, that I don't like poor scallops. He confirmed they were 3 large scallops, that the scallop dish had improved. In fact, the woman seating us said the same thing when I asked her, that the scallops had improved over past days. Instead, I received 4 scallops that ranged in size from medium, to medium small, to small, to very small. I tried the small scallop and it was very overcooked and rubbery. The waiter agreed the dish was unacceptable and exchanged it for the eggplant dish. So both my partner and I had the eggplant dish. The eggplant was mushy through the majority of it, but not on the edges. Mediocre quality. The gumbo soup was quite good. The onion soup was passable as it had little broth given the quantity of onions and almost no bread. In short, we expected much higher quality main courses at the dining room and it was poor quality. The waiter apologized and offered excuses of supply issues, being open only about a week, and power failures. But we believe the dining room has a captive audience and so does not focus on quality, which is very disappointing. My partner discussed our very poor quality (aka horrible) meals with his friend who stayed in Yellowstone last year. His friends ate at the dining room and also said the food was terrible. The positive is the ambiance of this historic hotel is serene and beautiful.

If you want to have dinner here you HAVE to get a reservation otherwise prepare for a looong wait. Even if not all tables are occupied they only have so many servers and they will not fill all tables. Best thing were probably our waiters which were super friendly and always had a nice smile and great attitude. Food wise we can recommend the veggie skillet for breakfast which we really liked. Nice amount of veggies, potatoes and together with some eggs a great start into the day. Hikers special was also good, just some eggs with bacon, toast and fruit salad. Solid option. For dinner the burger was good, the crab cake sandwich was ok (would have liked it to be a bit bigger though), fries were ok. Clam chowder was actually quite good, especially if you crave something warming. Fish and chips were ok, but the batter is a bit too thick I would say. Lobster Mac and cheese was ok, cheese was just a bit too runny for my taste. Don't order the panzanella salad. It comes with a few pieces of focaccia which are cold and dry. Also avoid the huckleberry martini. Tastes like cough syrup. Pretty bad. For desert the lemon cheese cake was pretty good, but don't bother to add ice cream. We had vanilla and it had plenty of ice pieces inside and tasted like it's from a bucket. The lake views are great if you're able to get a table close to the windows.

For the negative reviews, simply understand one is in a busy national park with food designed to quickly be served to a large crowd of people. Canyon Village is one of the larger stops and gathering areas within Yellowstone so have a bit of patience and understanding. Yes it is theme park style food with limited options, I wasn't expecting a James Beard Award meal here. For the wait, had a part of 5 took about 10 mins to get seated for our party. You are provided a buzzer when ready so you can shop the store for gifts or groceries in the mean time. I wasn't very hungry and grabbed chili and huckleberry float which hit the spot for me. Neither item was to write home about, but took care of topping off prior to getting back on the road for some more park adventure. Should it be crowded there is a to go kiosk in which you can order and not wait to be seated. There are other options as well if coffee and a quick snack or hotdog is to your liking the grocery side has that counter. There are also some quick bite sandwiches one can grab on that side as well. Prices are what are to be expected within this venue, but not over the top. Enjoy the stop and experience in Canton Village, just expect crowds and wait times in busy season or depending on time of the day you stop in. Oh plenty of parking available with huge lot for cars and RVs to accommodate, multiple items within the immediate area to include Jr Ranger Center, Education Center, pizza parlor, etc.

As for the food, given that most reviews were bad, I gambled and had a Cesar salad and the salmon with Cajun sauce since I was staying at the hotel and wanted to relive my childhood visit. The salad took too long to show up, especially since I was the first group for dinner. It was 3 times the size of Yellowstone Mammoth Restaurant, but not as good--did not finish, Cesar dressing is the problem . The Cajun sauce on the salmon was tasteless and the salmon boring, BUT the rice it sat on was Cajun and spicy enough to make the main dish acceptable. The rice won the meal by adding it to each bite of the salmon! All were served warm, including the green beans. Desert was the LavaDivine Fudge Cake. It was dry and needed the whip cream on top and on the side to make it worthy of being called a dessert. I ate it all. Was it worth the $57 before tip? Yes and no. Yes, because I'm on vacation at a famous hotel conveniently located downstairs. No, if I was back in Houston at a restaurant trying to claim class. I'll be back again if I stay at the Old Faithful Inn in the future.

Room, we had to change from one cabin to another (the inn and lodge were full so we were stuck). Massive amounts of mosquitos and I wasn't sleeping in that sort of nonsense. New room, ok. I don't believe we have A/C, lol. We have a cool table top fan. Yikes. Dinner: I cancelled our reservation from reading these reviews and opted for take out from it. House salad add chicken, meh. I asked for dressings on the side, ranch all on top. Kids chicken fingers, not so fresh/soggy when I opened them. Honey mustard was good. I wanted the potato soup but they had broccoli cheddar, it was fine, under seasoned. It took 25 minutes to get what I ordered and then I felt horrible because the poor hostess was being yelled at by the people waiting because like everyone else here said, it's messed up! No, I won't be back. Sorry I'm not sorry.
